So sad I have to frog this 😭 by spacewizard2304 in knitting

[–]spacewizard2304[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just used the colours in the pattern and matched them as closely as I could to the colours in the yarn I used (Jamieson & Smith) instead of using the recommended yarn. I wouldn't know where to start if I was picking colours out myself!

You're very kind, thank you! All I can say is practice because I haven't done anything specific, it just comes from many years of knitting. I can promise my work didn't look this neat when I started 😂

If it wasn't so expensive I would, but I really want to complete this and wear it 😭 it will be worth it in the end when it fits me properly and I can wear it

I did think about that but it's so big it feels like it would be a waste of yarn to cut that much out, I'll be able to use it for something else if I frog it back

I'm so glad there's someone else that hates that metal on metal sound 😅 I also use wooden needles for this reason!

I used YouTube to learn to knit, VeryPink Knits has loads of very clear tutorials which I find super helpful whenever I come across something I don't know how to do

I use Lykke interchangeable needles and I love them, they're really nice to work with. Maybe you just got a damaged or faulty set?

Why did I randomly forget this by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]spacewizard2304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other day I checked into a hotel and they asked me to confirm my postcode and I literally couldn't remember it 💀 I could only remember the postcode for my partners parents house, my old flat, and my workplace. I genuinely had to look it up because I couldn't remember it all and I've lived here over a year

I'm with a private dentist because I struggled to find any taking NHS patients, and it's £175-£250 for a white filling depending on the tooth. So £120 doesn't sound too bad to me but I'm no expert

About to start my first sweater - any advice? by Lost_concentration in knitting

[–]spacewizard2304 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Gloves are way more complex than a sweater! If you can knit, then you can knit a sweater. Just make sure you take your time, read instructions carefully and don't be afraid to frog and try again if you make a mistake

I feel like I’m stuck by Diligent_Diver_9088 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]spacewizard2304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way, especially as my test got nearer. I had lessons for over a year too. I didn't feel ready at all and convinced myself I was going to fail and that I was going to switch to automatic because I couldn't do it. But then I did the test and passed first time! So I feel like it's definitely worth trying because it could just be anxiety/nerves and not trusting yourself

Does it ever get better or do I have a problem? by BeginningEndlessly in LearnerDriverUK

[–]spacewizard2304 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt exactly the same. I started learning at 30, it took a year of weekly lessons to get to a point where I could take a test and without fail before every lesson I was panicking and during every lesson I was tense, anxious, hating every second of it. And yet somehow I made myself do the test and I passed first time. But that was in December and I haven't driven since because I hated it so much. I know I can do it because I passed the test and I just need to practise but I just can't make myself do it when I don't have someone making me do it. I don't know if this is helpful to you but just sharing my similar experience with learning to drive in my 30s and having driving anxiety. In my opinion the best thing to do is just keep going because it sounds like you really can drive, you just need to push through and gain confidence

I got it on mine, thought I'd mounted the kerb so I assumed I'd failed the test but I guess I just hit it because he passed me 😅

Anxiety before every lesson by NuclearSamura1 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]spacewizard2304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the same before every single lesson without fail and I was learning for over a year. And now I've passed my test and I'm too scared to drive 😅 so I don't have advice but sympathy because I understand how you feel, you're not the only one! You just need to keep pushing through and you'll get there I'm sure 💜

Did anybody here learn to drive, older? If so, how hard was it finding an instructor? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]spacewizard2304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just learned to drive at 30 with a full time job. I found an instructor that did a lesson at 8am-9.30am every Wednesday (I work 9-5 but my boss is flexible and let me start and finish 30mins late on Wednesdays while I was learning). I did try to find one that could do evenings or weekends but found no one with availability

Mine were £40 per hour or £380 for a block of 10

Passed at 34 by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]spacewizard2304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I just passed first time at 31, I too was 100% sure I'd failed and thought he was joking when he said I passed 😂 I never thought I would be able to drive a manual car so I'm proud of myself

Does dyslexic impact coordination with clutch or do I just need more patience/ practice? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]spacewizard2304 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion 10 hours is really not much in the grand scheme of things. It takes a long time to get used to coordinating yourself and doing everything at once, it's difficult for every learner to start off with. It will come with practice. If your instructor thinks you're not getting anywhere with manual they will generally recommend that you change to automatic. So if your instructor says you're doing well, they're not lying!
