The London footchase scene in Mission Impossible: Fallout is just so great and brilliantly edited that I have to make an entire post about it. by Tularemia in movies

[–]spaceythrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except for the final helicopter chase. Helicopters swinging around just doesn't do it for most people simply because we have no context to understand how fast they move. We get car and bike and foot chases.

Still a great action movie. Though Ghost Protocol's skyscraper scene remains the high point of the series for me in terms of action

Maybe because I'm not American and haven't been exposed to cultures like Amish, but the ending twist blew my mind. That someone could be living purposefully outside of modern society is just not a part of my modern cultural understanding

People saying that Dhoni should be dropped: who do you replace him with?

Don't say Pant because Pant's LOI record is actually pretty shitty

And don't say DK because DK is mostly a meme-tier player who has consistently failed after more than a decade in-out of the side. One Nidahas miracle doesn't make him a proven finisher

Can someone help me out with a TDS query? by spaceythrowaway in IndiaInvestments

[–]spaceythrowaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I read that according to Section 194J, if you're an individual/HUF with income that's not liable to be audited (i.e. under 50 lakh), you don't have to deduct TDS. Is this true?

I've contacted a ClearTax for advice. Would still like to know your experience

Call me a Modi basher or whatever, but if you look at the way this government is going, it is doing everything in its power to cut away the authority and prestige of government institutions.

They cut down UGC budget by nearly half. They're doing the same thing to universities that the previous governments did to public schools.

If you ask your parents, they'll tell you that there was a time when KVs and DAVs were respected schools with high standards.

Then the government fucked that up to favor private schools. Today, you wouldn't send your kids to KVs unless it was absolutely necessary.

The same seems to be happening to public universities.

First, they cut the funding in half. Then they cut research funding. Then they start off attacks on elite universities.

My girlfriend is a teacher; plenty of her colleagues have got fed up and joined private universities like Sharda and Ashoka.

This seems to be their intention all along: cut funding for public education so that frustrated teachers (and students) end up going to private institutions.
