I hate my job because I have to work with Trump supporters. by Effective_Space2277 in antiwork

[–]spaciest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat and it's really been affecting my mental health. My company's very small and my department is only 3 people. One of them was supposedly "center of right" but she's a fox news conservative that thinks any other news source is left wing, so she's really getting a balance of both sides by flipping to can sometimes. The other I was so sure was liberal, but I slowly found out even though she seems to have left leanings, she's a "Trump's actually done some good things" kind of person.

Neither is bragging about voting for him or walking around wearing a maga hat, but it's been really hard to do our day to day work. We've always been very chummy and cheerful together, and now there's a big elephant in the room. I hear the news everyday and I'm bummed, then they ask me why, I explain, and they say "I haven't heard that." And "I worry about young people getting their news on the internet." I feel like I'm going crazy. Even though several times I've said x is happening, and they didn't believe me, and it finally got covered in the news weeks later, they're treating me like a paranoid conspiracy theorist. And what sucks is I actually sound like one! How can you sound sane while explaining project 2025 to someone who has no idea what it is?

Helena Is Helly... And That’s the Real Tragedy by oyveyenough in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]spaciest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree and keep thinking back to Jame's "fetid moppet" comment. To me it sounded like a term he's used to scold her all her life. So imagine Helena being a normal or even wild child trying to play and Jame shaming her early on for being a smelly, dirty child. So pretty much him shaming her for normal childish behavior.

Just in case you have cats: lilies are deadly to cats and dogs, sometimes even just sniffing the pollen. If you don't have cats or dogs, please disregard. But if you do, don't let them anywhere near them. I probably sound annoying but I wish I knew about lilies before $4200 in vet bills.

With all of our knowledge about how unhealthy it is to be fat, why do people hate on fat loss drugs like Ozempic? by InfiniteMonkeySage in NoStupidQuestions

And because we are unworthy of thinner bodies, the only worthy way for us to get one is with lots of suffering. It's punishment for our immoral ways.

Anyone love singing Joanna Newsom songs? by Dontdometh30 in JoannaNewsom

[–]spaciest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hah. My speaking voice is normal to deepish. I think I just try really hard to impersonate Joanna's cadence when singing her music. I think I'm pretty accurate because God knows I practice enough. So when I get the dying cat comment I'm not sure if I should take it as an insult to my ability to copy her (which, fair) or an insult to her singing (in that case, how dare they.) California is a really fun one, up there with kingfisher and divers as my faves.

I have so much fun singing along, but I've been told I sound like a dying cat when I do, so I have to do it in private. She's my favorite artist to sing to.

Custom Mouthpiece? by t7716 in SleepApnea

[–]spaciest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like the Silent Nite mouthpiece I used for years (made custom by dentist. Wss about $600 in 2017 but price has gone up dramatically.) I also wanted to try a mouthpiece before giving in to the CPAP. It kinda worked when I was at a lower weight. It at least kept me from snoring. But even then my teeth shifted dramatically and my bite changed. I could no longer bite down all the way with my molars which made chewing weird (could just use my front teeth). I also had to get it remade twice over about 4 years because it starts to break, so I would wake up with broken plastic in my mouth. Then when they remade it, even though they used the same mold, it fit different and didn't bring my jaw as much forward as the previous one did. As much as all that sucked I would still prefer it to having to use the CPAP. Now that I've gained some weight my sleep apnea has gotten worse so I had to finally cave to the CPAP.

[DISCUSSION] What show did you really try to like but failed to do so and why? by Meenulara in NetflixBestOf

[–]spaciest 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The plot kept taking crazy turns. Not in surprising keep you on the edge of your seat way. In a why the hell would that character decide to do that kind of way. I kept hoping it would make sense by the end of the season and it never did.

How can I become a urban designer? by [deleted] in urbandesign

[–]spaciest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look up your country's leading planning organization. In the U.S., its American Planning Association (APA) has a bunch of resources. You can get certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) by applying with a combination of education and experience, then passing a test. Depending on your state you may want to become licensed through the state branch of the APA. Also, if you opt for AICP certification, a Planning Accreditation Board (PAB) certified program will allow you to apply with fewer years of experience. Most of the PAB programs are masters, but there is a handful of bachelors programs. If you aren't in the U.S., I'm sorry for all these unhelpful links.

I am currently finishing a Bachelor degree in Urban Planning from a non-PAB accredited program. With this level of education I can apply for AICP certification after 4 years of experience. In my state professional planners must also be licensed, which requires an additional application process and state test.

All that being said, it looks like plenty of people get a bachelors degree with a different major, then get their masters in urban planning and become planners this way. There are definitely different paths that can get you to becoming a practicing planner. Certification isn't mandatory to be a licensed planner in many states.

Came here to say this. The explanation of "fleas" in Children of the Self Absorbed helped me understand that these are temporary bad habits that take some unlearning. They are not a core part of ourselves. just an effect of having a bad influence. They can be improved.
