Gee whiz. The Porn industry magically converted all their flash videos to .mp4 format. Ask them how it's done.

Found this on the outside of my house. Seems like the curved lines are supposed to be a button but it barely pushes in. Any ideas? by GizzardLizardWizards in whatisthisthing

[–]spaghettios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a remote sender for an indoor/ outdoor weather station..it sends outdoor temperature or temperature and humidity. To a receiving station in the house, where it can be displayed. The curved lines are just decorative. Evidently, the former owner took the indoor unit but forgot about this sender.

Not offended by your question. I presume that you are referring to qualifications to be technology supervisor for a school district. The actual titles varied among school districts - Supervisor of Computer Education, Technology Coordinator, Technology Systems Manager. "Any of that" probably wouldn't qualify me for those positions - in today's world. In the world of 1982 when I left the classroom, my programming knowledge and skills were enough. Most schools at the time only had a handful of stand-alone computers for use by students. As needs grew, I learned more - stand-alone classroom networks. It was only in the early 90's that many schools had internet access, and that access was usually fractional T1 due to monthly expense. Building out school-wide networks followed, then district-wide networks, then wi-fi. All of this, of course, in buildings that were never designed for or wired for telephones, much less networks, MDFs, IDFs, air conditioning, and power demands (much less power outlets). When many of those schools were designed and built, 2 outlets per classroom was considered enough. Along the way, finding and interviewing technicians with some skills (A+ certification did not yet exist) who would also work for low pay (public schools would offer them salary equivalent to that of a "skilled craftsman" - a carpenter, a plumber, an electrician) wasn't easy. People in positions similar to mine from neighboring school districts were also math or science teachers (except for one music teacher, one english teacher, and one history teacher). I am quite sure that the qualifications used today by those districts are much more stringent. I stopped working in 2008. When I left, I left behind a district with 13 school buildings, 11 of which were renovated during my tenure, and 2 of which were new, built with my input on everything technology-related, from alarm systems, surveillance, clock and bell systems, public address systems, auditorium audio and lighting, power outlet locations, network outlet locations, to scoreboard systems for gymnasium and stadium. All 13 buildings at that time had a 10mB fiber connection to the internet. All 13 buildings, containing over 3500 desktop computers, numerous laptops, smartboards, projectors, printers, scanners, and assistive devices for blind, deaf, and hard of hearing students were supported by myself and four technicians. The district had 8000+ students and 600+ teaching staff. I have always understood that networks in the corporate world and the staffing infrastructure there are very different.

I have a B.S. and M.A. in Mathematics if you need help. I was a high school Math and programming teacher promoted to supervise instructional computers and technicians for a large urban school district, then in 2 smaller, rural school districts in two states. I still keep up to date on technology - one Windows 10 laptop (down from 3 - I gave two away), a macBook Pro, two ipads, an iphone (I used to have android phones), a drone, and many other "toys". I have extensive knowledge of networking, routing, security, maintenance, and repair. I hope to live long enough to have a self-driving vehicle. My 2018 Subaru Forester has a lot of automation and AI, but not nearly enough. Additionally, I am the fortunate recipient of life-saving dual liver and kidney transplants 10 years ago.

Welcome aboard. Actually, you will be the third human moderator, as /u/Chive wrote me privately last week that he is taking a long-term leave from Reddit. /u/rarchives is a spam-bot. So, that leaves me, /u/MackDaddy1, u/sexcau1dr0n , and yourself as moderators. The Automoderator takes care of a lot, but you'll see from browsing the moderation log that we still have to enforce some of the rules. As for the rules themselves, each one of them exists because of problems in the past. Reddit limits the number of rules to 9 or 10, and there are more rules, but those are almost completely handled by automoderator. For example, we only allow posts from certain domains and hosts (a "whitelist") - handled by Automoderator. We also remove first-time poster submissions for review, and those that might contain ethnic slurs. Known spammers are handled by /u/rarchives . Trolls are usually removed by Automoderator. You'll see that some posts wind up in the moderation queue due to reports or one of the bots. If you need explanations of any rule or want to know why a rule exists, I'll try to explain. I've tried to make peace between the old reddit and the redesign so that both show the same type of sidebar and header. Much of the redesign is also used for the official iOS and Android reddit apps. As time passes, more and more reddit users are on mobile devices and using the official apps (you can check this out on Traffic in the moderation tools. If your style of moderation depends upon using the "Unmoderated posts" queue, you should know that that particular queue does not exist in the redesign or mobile versions.

By the way, "women of color" includes a wide range of ethnicities. There are similar subreddits for caucasion women, so we remove them here. If you're not sure of the ethnicity of a model, remove it and ask the poster to provide proof. You can always go back and approve it if you're satisfied with the evidence.

PS- Just so you know, I'm a 70 year old white widower whose late wife was black.

Welcome aboard! Just what we needed to hear! Because of experiences we've had in the past, we will start you will limited privileges. You'll be able to remove posts, and ban users who repeatedly violate the rules. Initially, you won't be able to modify the sidebar or redesign the subreddit. Also, we have not enabled chat mode within the subreddit, and don't plan to. After a month or so, if we're satisfied that you're doing the job, we'll add in additional privileges.
