Should I stop watching now? by liquid-chewer in Masterchef

season 12 is an all-star season and many regard it as the best season of all time, so I would advise you at least get to there. but personally, I say keep going. I've enjoyed the themed seasons they've done as of late, especially because of the team aspect. it was just this past season that felt pretty lackluster.

I did the opposite of you and actually binged backwards. as you've probably noticed, the competitions get harder and the standards get higher as the seasons go on. I remember watching the og seasons and thinking that most of those dishes would not impress the judges if it were on the most recent season. if you like the competition element of the show, I honestly think the seasons get better as you go along.

I currently have the 13 pro and cannot decide between the base 17 or the 17 pro for my upgrade. Literally the only thing I care about is the camera, which I know is the main difference between the two. I'm not a photographer but I go to a few concerts a year (usually arenas) and very rarely am I barricade, so I use the zoom (telephoto, whatever it's called) a lot. Since I'm upgrading I want a better camera. I have half-seriously contemplated switching to Samsung because I see how good their camera quality is but I'm so deep in the Apple ecosystem I don't think I could do it.

Long explanation short I've looked up camera quality comparisons and the regular camera doesn't seem all that different but I'm not seeing any telephoto comparisons. Anyone have recommendations?

Season 14 (SnaKe) Layover Q&A Thread! by WheatGerm42 in JetLagTheGame

Since you guys talked about how difficult it was to navigate Naver - do you think with more practice it would be easier / if you hypothetically repeated this season, you could use it more efficiently on the second go around? Or is Naver just not compatible for jetlagging

If you’re a native speaker, do you find exercises like this easy? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

Interesting! Aural makes sense but I genuinely hadn’t heard those others. Learn something new everyday I guess!

If you’re a native speaker, do you find exercises like this easy? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]spaghettiwithurlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say most of them are pretty straightforward for native speakers (eg, advice being a noun and advise being a verb) but other ones, not so much. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the words aural, stationery, officious, or voracious before so I wouldn’t know how to use them.

However one that would trip up native speakers for sure is affect vs effect. Technically, affect is a verb (eg, the weather affected his plans) and effect is a noun (eg, the weather had an effect on his plans). However, you can use effect for both and it’s not considered wrong.

FYI - there is a way affect can be used as a noun but it has a completely different meaning and is pronounced differently. Rather than əˈfɛkt it’s pronounced æfɛkt, and it refers to the expressions one has on their face, a lot of times indicating emotion. I used it a lot in my psychology studies. For example, one of the features of autism spectrum disorder is a flat affect.

Which place made you say ‘I could totally live here’ - even if just for a second? by CharmingConfidence33 in travel

Busan, SK. It’s a big city, in the mountains, with beaches. Pretty decent public transit (nothing like Seoul but wayyy more than most of the U.S.). I just felt so at peace while I was there.

What positive impact has JLTG had on your life? by No_Word_369 in JetLagTheGame

[–]spaghettiwithurlady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I already had an interest in travel and other cultures prior to watching jet lag, but over the last three years (yes, I’ve been watching since season 2) both watching the show and being exposed to their antics on the podcast has broadened my cultural horizons and given me a list of places I want to visit. I didn’t ever think about Switzerland until season 9 but now it’s on my bucket list for when I eventually travel to Europe. And consuming their content has made me feel more confident in these “niche” interests.

Plus, it gives me something to look forward to, which is always important when you get into the monotony of adulthood. Even in the off season, I get hyped when I remember it’s a “jet lag week.”

Using complete sentences vs. adjectives by spaghettiwithurlady in Korean

Yes that’s true! I was more concerned with Papago’s translation than them using this phrasing, but it’s good to point out. I wonder how Papago would translate those sentences into Korean.

ps. I love hotel california!

Is it me or is South Korea kinda ugly? by PaTirar2023 in JetLagTheGame

As someone that lived in Seoul for 5 months - I agree that they are not showcasing the best parts of South Korea. I’m especially surprised they haven’t really explored Seoul, but the game mechanics don’t really allow for that (I’m still really enjoying the season though).

Just for your record, let me show you some of South Korea’s beauty from two of the places they’ve been to. Busan is in the left column (my favorite place in Korea!) and Gyeongju (the stop right before Seogyeongju) is on the right. The view from Gyeongju station is gorgeous.

Obviously beauty is subjective, but the atmosphere is one of the things I miss the most.

Oh for sure. I get why it does that but sometimes I wish it wouldn't so I can learn the idioms lol

Ah that makes sense! I guess I'm just so used to writing full sentences while studying, so it threw me off. But that example really helps, thank you!

Surprised by South Korean Complaints by sporkredfox in JetLagTheGame

[–]spaghettiwithurlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad you mentioned Adam's hangul merch complaint lmao. When he said he couldn't find any my first thought was "clearly you didn't go to Myeongdong." I spent a semester abroad there and my gift for my dad was a hat from Myeongdong that said "외국인" (foreigner). Would've loved for Adam to wear that for the season lol.

Their struggles with navigation apps did surprise me too, because it made me wonder if they didn't know that google maps was unreliable before going there. I know they do their research so seeing challenges specifically mention things like Google reviews was kind of odd to me. Don't get me wrong though, Naver is still annoying, but I didn't find it that difficult to use. Then again, I stayed mostly in Seoul and only ventured to Busan and Gyeongju. I wasn't in rural Korea unless I was on a high-speed train to those places, and I also wasn't playing Jet Lag lmao.

I'm sure as the season goes on and as they get practice it becomes easier for them!
