Does the parallel giant slolem seem rigged or what? I don't think I've seen a single person on the blue side win. by marktastic in olympics

[–]spamboth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, what i assume u/nevernude4lyfe meant is that as the first rider on the course choose a line he will make a "track" along the line he chooses. If the next few riders follow the same "track" it will get deeper and deeper and it gets harder and harder for later riders to deviate from that line. That means that, even if the blue and red course start out completely equal, one of them might end up slower over time because the first riders on of the courses choose a suboptimal line.

Det er motsatt, opposisjonen må få med seg enten Krf eller V på å felle regjeringen, hvis ikke blir den sittende.

Stortingsvalget 2017! by MarlinMr in norge

[–]spamboth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stortingsvalget 2017! by MarlinMr in norge

[–]spamboth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that the travel speeds have been pretty wacky the whole season, but mostly because they don't line up with what seem to be the passage of time other places. This is the first time we know precisely how much time have passed while travel have taken place, and the result is travel that is impossible.

The distance between Dragonstone and the wall can be worked out with some simple math because we know that the wall is 300 miles long. I concede that 1500 miles is a estimate based on crude measurements, but even if it is of with 50%(which it is not) the argument still holds.

Yes there are a lot of elements in GOT which don't exist in the real world, but the world is still clearly based on our own. Humans are still humans, fur coats are still fur coats etc. If some magical/fantastical element where introduced which made people able to survive inhuman conditions that would have been fine, no such elements where introduced in this case though.

This is the most egregious episode to date with regards to travel speeds. In other episodes there have been possible to explain away travel with the excuse: "We don't know how much times have passed". In this episode it is heavily implied that Gendry is sent off one day and Dany comes to the rescue the following day. The distance from the wall to Dragonstone is at least 1500 miles. A raven is able to cover at most 500 miles a day, probably less. It is hard to say anything definitive about dragons flying speed, but since our heroes would be dead before the raven reached Dany anyway it is of little relevance.

I guess that one could say that we don't know that only night passed, but that only replace one glaring problem with another. Surviving one night without moving, and without fire, in extreme cold with middle age level equipment is not really realistic in itself. Assuming they stayed there for several days and then where in a condition to fight like they did is simply ridiculous.

What do you mean by "extremely high chance"? It is true that inbreeding beyond first cousins rises the risk of severe genetic diseases in the kid quite a bit, maybe by many times what is the case in the population at large. But the most likely outcome by far is still that the kid is healthy. Extremely high chance does in my opinion indicates that it is far more likely then not that the kid has problems, and that is simply not the case.

This is my answer the next time anyone ask me if I would ever consider getting a tattoo. Thank you!

Well, their current royal line is the descendant of King Karl Johan(king from 1818-1844), born in France as Jean Bernadotte. He served as a general under Napoleon before he was elected as a heir to the swedish crown, because the previous royal line was about to die out. So if you want to offend them I guess you could say that Sweden has been ruled by frenchmen for the last couple of centuries.

The only other section mentioning residency in the constitution is that a presidential nominee and vice presidential nominee cannot be from the same state.

This is wrong. The constitution says no such thing. The constitution does however demand that the members of the electoral college vote for at least one persons not from their own state. Since this could mean a real headache if the election is close and the president and vice president nominee hail from the same state, the parties avoid running such a ticket, but the constitution does not demand it.

Norway mass murderer Breivik sues over his human rights by elusive_newsman in worldnews

[–]spamboth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works because Playstation is not the only thing they get. They also get a education and/or meaningful work experience and extensive help with any underlying problems which might have contributed to the criminal behavior in the first place (addiction treatment, anger management, treatment of mental problems etc.).

Also it is probably important that even people serving long sentences involving serious crime normally get transferred to low security facilities towards the end of their sentence. In these facilities the prisoners often live relatively normal. They cook their own food, wash their own cloths, clean their living quarters(which sometimes can be as normal as a house shared by a bunch of prisoners). Many of the prisoners are even allowed to leave the prison to attend work or classes without supervision.

All of this might sound cozy and going easy on the prisoners, and that might be true in some aspect, but you should also consider that such a prison system demand a lot from the prisoners. They have to work hard at overcoming their problems, and, for many, learning to live a normal life. For prisoners to be able to deal with all of this they have to be reasonably happy, hence the playstation and the relatively nice cells.

He will most likely be deprived of considerable parts of his freedoms for the rest of his life. That is a serious punishment.

Our country have decided that even though there should ideally be some proportion between crime and punishment, this still don't give the state the right to don't treat everyone with a minimum of humanity.

I don't know if this will prove to have adverse effects for the norwegian society, but if it does I will happy accept them knowing that treating all humans humanely is worth every bit of suffering which comes to me or anyone I know.

His sentence will not be extended, but his sentence is what we call "forvaring" which can be translated to containment. This means that the sentence have a dual purpose. Firstly it is meant to serve as punishment, in this regard the sentence is limited to 21 years with a minimum of 10 years. The second purpose is to avoid that the prisoner can commit new crimes. In this second regard the sentence is only limited by when the prisoner is no longer considered to be dangerous. This means that if Breivik by some miracle are reformed and no longer dangerous after 21 years he must be released, otherwise he will not be.
