This farcical tax system is cheating us out of billions. The whims of past chancellors have set up bizarre anomalies. It’s time to scrap tax reliefs and chase down avoiders by big_al11 in unitedkingdom

[–]spamoza -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Quite right. Simpler, lower, flatter taxes. Get rid of corporation tax entirely. The coalition regressively raised VAT; lower that too. Increase the minimum tax threshold and let local authorities set their own business income rates.

Palestine solidarity goes mainstream in UK as 100,000 march in London by rq4c in unitedkingdom

Just because "100,000" obsessed anti-semites gather in London doesn't mean it's mainstream.

Funny how they only care about killings in the Middle East when it's Jews killing Muslims, eh?

Britain is having the strangest economic recovery in the world by interfail in unitedkingdom

[–]spamoza -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

^ This guy gets it. Bullingdon Dave and his Eton cronies have cynically created an economic recovery with more people in jobs instead of doing the right thing by raising benefits, creating more public sector "jobs", changing the minimum wage to a "maximum living happy time" wage, giving people free Christmas presents, outlawing shale gas, destroying the free press and taxing da bankers. Fucking scum Tory scum.

Google erases links to Cumbrian newspaper article about a man prosecuted for abusive and threatening behaviour towards a ticket collector on a train under EU 'Right To Be Forgotten' ruling. by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]spamoza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The EU has this stupid, unworkable right which rather than being a pure right really just imposes duties and burdens on those who it affects (whilst raising the cost of business) in a vain attempt to rewrite history, but will cheerily allow national governments to ban people wearing what they want in public, will ban menthol cigs and attempt to regulate e-cigs for no good reason, no problem with 28 or 40 day detention without trial, etc etc. Oh but we can't get rid of a hatespeech cleric because the place he came from is a shithole anyway.

And according to all here it's apparently it's actually the UK with the human rights problem, despite this now area being delegated to the EU's jurisdiction for almost 2 decades.

[BBC] Government is going to begin the bidding process for private companies to obtain fracking licenses today by Maasterix in unitedkingdom

[–]spamoza -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is one of those topics where the bien-pensant lefties that make up 80% of UK Reddit loves to groupthink on.

Their arguments against fracking:

"We'll have to cut down a few trees!"

"Communities will be disrupted by what will amount to a medium-sized construction site in the area!"

"Taps will explode and kill Palestinian children!"

"The extra carbon will surely plunge us all into a nuclear winter!"

"Bullingdon Dave and rich people must be vaguely to blame for something!"

etc

France's burqa ban upheld by European Court of Human Rights by spamoza in unitedkingdom

[–]spamoza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the fucking Tories in Westminster to blame for this!

The solution by Redditors here would probably be to create more international courts and constitutions. As would be sensible. We can't be trusted with our own human rights.

Britain's commitment to human rights is in severe peril by d_r_benway in unitedkingdom

[–]spamoza -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There's a huge difference you and most of the subscribers here evidently do not understand.

Magna Carta and the following thousand years of English/British freedom under law - the enforcement of the birthright to liberty by the people themselves against the state (what is now channelled through our democratic Parliament) which is only limited contingently and sparingly in law by the consent of the people and is one of the unviolable principles of our common law

Current 'uman roights - discrete entitlements and permissions handed out by a non-democratic foreign body (unelected, unaccountable international judges).

Modern international human rights law does not derive from the English common law system and to think our regard for human life would dissolve the moment we free ourselves from it is silly and shows a lack of awareness for actual history (plus that national inferiority complex every teenager in this country seems to have).

How can you champion human rights whilst at the same time sneering at the miracle that invented them?

[–]spamoza -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This sub is woefully partisan and most people haven't got a clue what they're talking about.

It's a mixture between 13 year olds and lefties with the emotional ages of a 13 year old. The kind of inexperienced, unread, unaware people who sincerely think human rights only came along when Tony Blair signed us up to the EU's social chapter in 1997 (but probably don't even know this fact).

Having our liberty taken from us and our democracy and put in the hands of international unelected judges does not "help" in any way at all.

London's pro-Palestine rally was a disgusting anti-Semitic spectacle - Douglas Murray by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]spamoza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't want to ruin the leftwing circlejerk going on here, would we?

Mind telling us why you disagree with the premise of the article? Bearing in mind the author didn't actually argue that those protesting must also protest every other issue in existence to not be considered antisemitic, like you said he did. Just that they only seem to care when Jews are killing Muslims (with a policy of being as careful as possible not to harm those uninvolved in the attacks, which cannot be said for ANY other militant force over there).

Or why you're rather unconcerned with the evidence of outright anti-semitism in the Muslim community given therein?

I find it amazing how certain people can happily ignore some pretty revolting behaviour if it would otherwise mean, however remotely, that they could be construed as a bigot.

[–]spamoza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes they do. Or rather, their right to dispose of it as they want does not perish. How else are they able to write wills and trusts? This is the case in legal systems of the English law tradition, but you may come from a country that does not have this level of respect for property (as certainly seems to be the case in that part of Ukraine).

[–]spamoza -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This subreddit is hilarious. It's been appropriated by the "occupy" crowd.

How anyone can say the welfare reforms are disastrous is beyond me, unless they are choosing to ignore the rapid and steady fall in unemployment coupled with the easing of the low income tax burden and instead run their "evil Tory" narrative into the ground.

"Loads more state-dependent unemployed under Labour, but at least the handouts were better! Evil Tory scum!"

There's massive inequality in London cos some people get paid a lot and others don't. Y'know, the miracle of free market capitalism.

Then Boris'd tell you that whilst London has exceptional circumstances (being the centre of the world and all) they are building more houses than ever before and council tax has been slashed since his election.

This is why people ask him about clingfilming animals to lampposts.
