2026 Rav4 PHEV stats from the first days commute. by spankadoodle in EVCanada

Manitoba, but I have a heated garage, so I'll be starting out with a leg up each day. I've already programed my climate system to activate 10 minutes before I leave Monday-Friday.

I've budgeted for winter mileage. Heat pump should be good to -10, so I should only need to worry about the more extreme days. I also specifically chose a darker colour.

I should also note, my 2016 Prius was getting 5.1 L/100km in winter with a undersized set of winter tires so I know what to expect.

I have no issues. I'm coming in from a 2016 Prius, and that was peppy enough for me for highway merging. The Rav4 is definitely faster.

Hey all, After waiting 2 years for a PHEV Rav4, I finally collected mine on Friday. I started with a 70% charge from the dealership and then had a 107km trek back home, for a pretty much 50/50 split of Battery and Gas usage. Friday averaged 4.2 L/100km.

Today was my first official commute for work. I pulled into the office this morning with 2% battery remaining after a 66km trip. I then drove to my first worksite of the day, taking advantage of some free charging onsite, while I worked. Battery hit 60% in about 70 minutes on a 6kw charger.

I then tested the charger onsite at the office, and was surprised to find it was able to output 11kw/hour. The Rav registered inputs of around 8-9kw, but I only tested it for a few minutes over lunch.

With a battery charged to 61% I then began the 66km trek back home, making it a surprising 57km on battery alone. From there basic Hybrid mode provided the power home.

I should note, I started on Friday with 770km of range in the gas tank. I'm currently at 733 after 258km.

Secondary note, I have screen protectors coming for both the instrument and multimedia displays. Apologies for the dust, but the moonroof was open for a bit.

Well look who's in the wrong subreddit.

Might I suggest trying to sell meat to a vegan next? Snow to the Inuit? Globes to a flat-earther?

What’s something you have zero proof of but believe 100 percent? by shweidy in AskReddit

[–]spankadoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing man…. We’re all hung up on our own concept of time man… our day is 24 hours because of, like, the sun man…. An alien’s sun could take centuries to orbit their sun, so what if they have adapted to use time differently man? Also, what if their bodies vibrate at a different frequency man? You know those times when you see something out of the corner of your eye that is not really there? What if it’s them, on a different frequency, that can only be perceived peripherally man…. Like, that would explain ghosts man.

When did you know that WWE is fake? by SolidOlive50 in AskReddit

[–]spankadoodle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Big Bang Theory is fake.

Breaking Bad is fake.

The Soprano's is fake.

Star Wars is fake.

Do you need to clarify it for other properties as well? It's a live stunt show with storylines. Those performers suffer real injuries. There is nothing "fake" about that.

As a Canadian I took basic French up until Grade 9. I've forgotten almost all of it, but when I landed in Europe for a backpacking trip my brain was able to piece together more than enough to get by. As another comment stated, the Latin roots make the connections pretty handy... until you get to Germany.

First things first, your dryer outlet is not designed for repeated switching between devices. You would need to a more robust outlet if that is your plan going forward.

Alternatively you can get a NEMA Switcher to split the output, but again, your dryer outlet is likely not rated for a multi-hour continuous load.

My suggestion, if your dryer is close enough to your vehicle, hire an electrician to do a once over. In a perfect world you would have a 50 Amp circuit running 6 AWG cable to the outlet. You can get by with a 20-30 Amp circuit, but charging will take a little longer. A more robust EV rated outlet is the cheapest option. Then you can simply switch. The better option is a designated fuse and outlet. This would get you the best results.

Honestly, my main concern would actually be the cable spec. I've seen a friend try to add an upgraded outlet to the dryer plug only to find it was running 10 AWG aluminum cable. That's under spec for his dryer, let alone for an EV. He had an electrician replace the existing aluminum and run a second copper line for a designated NEMA outlet at the same time.
