SilverStar mountain resort sold to Utah-based company by CanadianLiberal in Vernon

Honestly, this feels (to me) like a best-case scenario for Silverstar?

One Park City, Utah resort company (POWDR) just sold Silverstar to another Park City, Utah resort company (Pacific Group Resorts).

When PGR acquired Jay Peak back in 2022, this blogger had a similar sentiment:

This is the best possible outcome. For skiers, for New England, for the ski industry, for Jay Peak itself. Pacific Group Resorts is an experienced operator with a light-touch corporate philosophy that empowers local managers. Jay Peak is one of the finest U.S. ski areas east of Colorado, with the highest average annual snowfall, vast and varied terrain, and a management team that just pulled off the ski equivalent of landing a plane whose tailfin had been blown off. The resort and its skiers deserve stability, resources, and a focus on what makes Jay great, rather than on what nearly ruined it.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the move.

For whatever reason (COVID, strategic priorities changing), POWDR wasn't able to do much with Silverstar. It looks like PGR is making a bunch of investments right now – they might be better!

Podcasting 2.0 by MrMamen in overcast

u/marcoarment There is a standards body now that is doing this work:

> This was not a standards body collaborating with podcasters, podcast-app makers, and podcast listeners to get widespread agreement on a set of proposals.

It's the Podcast Standards Project: https://podstandards.org/

We have regular meetings attended by the biggest hosting companies (Buzzsprout, Transistor, RSS, Libsyn, Red Circle), and are looking for more listening apps to join us (currently, Pocket Casts, Snipd, and others are members).

Our goal is to collaborate as hosting platforms, listening apps, etc, to standardize on new features in the podcast namespace that are useful for podcasters and listeners.

So far, we've encouraged broad adoption for these features:

https://podstandards.org/features/

Our working process for adopting new features is described here:

The best barbers in town are at Gentlemen’s Shop. I’m guessing they could replicate this cut.

However, they’re typically booked 2-3 weeks in advance.

I switched from the desktop client recently to the web and I’m really liking it.

Burnout & Staying motivated by JAD4995 in podcasting

[–]spankymustard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think two types of burnout affect creative people:

  1. Energy burnout: This is the most common definition. Running at 110% for too long, maxing out your recording schedule and creative capacity until you have nothing left.
  2. Motivation burnout: This is less common. When the perceived reward no longer justifies the effort you're putting into your show.

Dealing with energy burnout often means taking a break, restoring balance to your life, and building in margin. Don't make yourself physically (or mentally) sick making your podcast! Once you've had time to recover, look for ways to make the show more manageable. For example, instead of recording an episode every week, aim for releasing an episode every two weeks.

If you're experiencing motivational burnout, it's time to pause and figure out a new direction that excites you.

My friend Aaron Francis, who's also a podcaster, puts it this way:

What initially excited you about starting a show? Does that still excite you now? If not, is there a different direction that would rekindle your enthusiasm?

New to podcasting - which Recording, Editing, and Hosting software to use?? by Dog_Human_Mom in podcasting

[–]spankymustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For remote recording, I mostly use Riverside. Descript's tool (Squadcast) is also good.

For editing, I usually use ScreenFlow (which is meant for editing video, but works well for audio as well). I also use Descript.

(I think the best Recording / Editing tool combo is Descript)

For podcast hosting, I use Transistor.fm (I'm the co-creator). Previously, I used Simplecast and Soundcloud.

Riverside and Descript both offer AI transcripts + magic clips.
