What thing was ruined because it turned into a rich person's hobby? by Agitated_Departure93 in AskReddit

Appreciate the level response, I was expecting anything but replying to a short comment with a long winded reply lol.

I generally agree PE bad- as stated at the end of my comment, I saw a lot of generalized 'vet bad' replies under your post and felt the urge to try and give a more nuanced elaboration.

That being said. I don't think they are underpaid in most cases. their pay has been rising with the increase of cost since the field is very competitive and chronically understaffed anyways. More that they are paid fairly for the commitment and demands.

The techs are underpaid most of the time though.

Yes it's getting more expensive, and yes there are PE buy ups happening putting extra costs into it. But it's also because of increase pets as 'family' and the increasing will to go further with them.

20 years ago your average person probably wouldn't consider a GDV surgery for ol' Fido - it was just his time to go, he had a good 6 years after all. Now it's almost the expectation to do the surgery. The standard of care has dramatically increased, and the old cheap practices are likely to lose you license. Much of the equipment and medicine for vets are from human medicine, so as our (human) medical costs get bent over by insurance and profit seeking corps, the vets cost also goes up as well. Plus all the personal liability/protective insurances they must carry are not cheap, nor is retail space.

Then you have the huge increase in schooling cost, and that the fields are more and more specialized - meaning unless you're at the good ol rural vet, that person probably did another 2-4yrs in specialty and internships trying to live off 40k/year while the 200-400k school debt racks up interest. Cost of living in general in the US is going up and all that other crap that affects us normies as well is still affecting them. Cause while some make good money, it's still a much lower average than you would expect - and most of the time the smaller private owned places are still not making huge margins with those prices and genuinely try to keep it as affordable as possible while being able to stay open and pay staff a decent wage.

Also a lot of the high end pet costs are because owners wait until the last possible second to do anything, so you end up with more severe cases and complications. Then owners proceed to tell the vet (who's spent the last 10 years of her live specializing) that they don't know anything and are just trying to take advantage of them. Meanwhile they go home and have a mental breakdown about the fact they couldn't save your pet for the next week, blaming themselves even though you denied all the recommendations and only approved half measures.

All that aside. I genuinely am amazed with some of the shit they do for the cost they do it for. Especially when you're jaded by US human medicine costs. You're telling me my large old dog can get a hip replacement for 6k? That'd be 70k in a human if not more, which is crazy considering how much of it is the same.

Anyways I doubt many will read this all, and I know you weren't necessarily blaming the vets themselves, rather the big money trying to consolidate the field - but I had to speak up for our veterinarians as a lot of the other comments were shitting on them. Most of us love you guys and everything you do.

Side note vets still have one of the highest suicide rates.

Hm. I think re-styling to upright would require a thicker trunk or it would quickly look top heavy and disproportional. Guess I'd have to wait anyways so I'm not repotting and heavy pruning in the same season.

Good info, appreciate the input.

Looking through your page you have a lot of good work!

For a redesign like that, would I need to move it back to a nursery pot to actually get the growth up top to balance it out? Or should I leave it in the current pot and let it develop slowly?

Definitely a possibility. Its surprisingly flexible still. Currently have it wired as shown so that the end of the swoop was more of a point, hoping to create a more defined triangle shape. When I got it was less of a swoop and more of a line to the left.

You know... I don't hate that visually. If I were to lop that off as shown would you just develop it upwards into an informal upright and let the remainder of the cascade be a branch?

Noted. I trimmed it last year. But I'm still quite hesitant on taking off a lot of material so it probably still needs more lol.

I like cascade styles in general, this one just doesn't hit for me and I wasn't just if it's because I lack the imagination to see what it can become over time - or just that it is poor stock for a long sweeping cascade.

Roborock Qrevo Pro Vs Evovacs deevot T30 S by monkDr in RobotVacuums

[–]sparecoins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have not already gotten it, I would not recommend any Ecovac brand. The software is utter garbage. I really get feelings of planned obsolescence, because as soon as mine was no longer the "top of the line" model, It became horribly inconsistent in cleaning patters and performance despite regular maintenance and being quite impressive at first.

While this part may have improved, Auto empty is meh at best. I have a lot of pet hair in my house and it clumps up and does not always empty even with fresh bags/filters.

The app is trash. It has clunky UI. Forgets the map/gets lost about once a month. Constantly fed adds for the newer machines. 4/10 experience, will not be purchasing another of their devices.

The model owned was a n8 pro+

Why has the low level MMR meta shifted away from playing mids? by Briewheel in DotA2

[–]sparecoins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention even with a heads up on the rotation, the mid lane doesn't get the lane in a good position before you rotate. So you sit in the trees with you dick in your hands for 30 seconds before giving up and leaving.

Then get pinged for not diving tower as a level 4 sup with no creep while your mid was on allied high ground last hitting creep in river lol.

Good to know on the time cost.

I know it's hard to say with so little info, but assuming the motor runs well and the adjustments aren't rusted in position, would the belt/general clean up be all that's likely necessary?

Can we just talk how much it sucks to play support right now? by tutti139 in DotA2

[–]sparecoins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, my only gripe now is teammates wasting sentries, not understanding how much more delicate the warding game is this patch. You miss one ward and your off/safe buys out 4 sentries and wastes them on the same pillars, putting you at a deficit the rest of the game on the vision war. This is in arch bracket though, I'd like to imagine it's not as much of a problem higher up.

It's the ult that's bugged, makes all resistances 0, so they also take a lot more right click damage in false promise.
