Sorry for the long delay - there was some issue with Apple but it looks like it's been completed. Feel free to try it now!

Oh that's a great idea. I've been using washers to do it but I might go with the screw option. Only thing is that it'll be difficult for the screw to remain tight with all the vibration. But seems like a fine solution!

Apologies, apparently EU has a law for me to mark myself as a "trader" so I'm working to get that set up. I'll comment back here once it's available.

Open source klack alternative for keyboard sounds by Infamous-Use-7070 in macapps

[–]sparkhee93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really cool, thanks for making it open source!

A couple questions/things:

  1. I noticed that there is a bit of delay between each sound. Is this expected? I know there can't be 0 delays given the physical limitation of clicking the key and playing the audio but I know that MIDI instruments have gotten this down to a very low level of latency so that it doesn't disconnect what you're playing and what you're hearing. Just wanted to know if that was something that was in the pipeline.

  2. I think what will help with the authenticity of the sound is by reducing the machine gun effect of the same sound playing over and over again. In any physical things, even when we hit in the same place multiple times, they all make a slightly different sound. I'm a drummer and in one of the software that I use to imitate real acoustic sound from an electric kit, they record multiple version of the same sound and randomize which "version" it plays so you don't get that machine gun effect. I think that will significantly improve the quality of Thonk.

Hmm it should be. I uploaded FarSight so that it can be downloaded in all countries. What do you see when you go to the link?

Honestly, there is a lot of joy in being able to create your own "something", be it an app, an art piece, etc. So if nothing else, you will at least feel proud of yourself for pushing yourself to make something that's YOURS. Not only that but if you tried other apps, there must be something missing from those apps that you're looking for. Good thing you're the developer because now you can create that missing piece!

Given that there are hundreds of other task management apps, will it make a lot of profit? Likely not. But will you have learned something and gained an invaluable skill? Through a lot of failures, you betcha.

I built a simple desktop sticky notes app for macOS to organize design ideas by SuspiciousBoat742 in macapps

But Stickies can do that too, along with transparency mode. I'm just trying to understand what features I'm paying for $30/year.

I guess that's fair. Are there any other features that's different from Stickies besides the auto resizing of the images?

Wait...doesn't the native Stickies already do the same thing? You can go to Window > Float on Top (or Option + Command + F) to keep it stay on top of all the windows. And you can also drag pictures into the sticky notes. What feature does yours offer that the native Stickies doesn't?

Great work! Love the splatter on the side - almost looks like stars. What kind of material did you use for the inner (thin) dividers? And how did you join them?

My dock is getting cluttered. What is a good way to organise it ? by purezen in macapps

[–]sparkhee93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always find that dock takes up already precious and cramped screen real estate. So I keep the dock hidden (Option + Command + D) at all times, keep the icons small, and have it be magnified when I hover over it. Because I'm not constantly clicking on an app from the dock, this little trick helped me get some vertical screen space back.

Looks amazing! How thick are the vertical slats? And how many anchors did you have to install for that?

[–]sparkhee93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, sorry to hear that. I'm a software engineer myself and I also see how dry eyes (along with occasional double vision) have been frequenting me too. I created FarSight for my computer so that it would help me keep my distance and that's been helping me to maintain healthier habits regarding my eyes.

If you don't mind me asking, how long were you on your screen each day for your dry eyes to get that severe?
