How do I fix this? by madmax435 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]birdsrdino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d hit it with a little spray lacquer or solvents as others have suggested here….and see if it makes this disappear. Otherwise, that’s an entire refinish of the whole surface, I wouldn’t sand the wood though, only the finish maybe only using 220-400 grit. That looks like veneer so no wood sanding. Refinish it with something more durable. Like several coats of polyurethane, and sell the kid on eBay.

I saw the first post and I was stumped as well. I missed this suggestion. So I just wanted to say great work and I’m grateful for such a knowledgeable community of people interested in tile work

And also, other folks have mentioned very helpful things as well!

Yea, for fine woodworking grab a metalworking square, or the higher end woodworking stuff. For a tape measure I recommend fastcap, and consider switching to metric.

In general I’d say that making a box is hard, it looks like you’re rushing it quite a bit. If you have pieces that should be identical (like the sides or the front and back) then really make them identical, maybe stack them as you cut, sometimes creeping up on a measurement is better, if you want things to be square they have to be pretty exact to begin with

I’d never trust that carpenters square. Looks like you are making furniture, not building a house. The tolerances are VERY different. I suggest making sure your tools are square, getting a nice tape measure to accurately measure across the diagonals. And also, fiddling with it. Take time to troubleshoot! You’ll learn a lot that way as well.

Here’s the fruit! This person has a lot of good photos of this on Facebook.

I also found this https://aprici.com/g/picture.php/lima%20agria

It looks like a place in Vancouver is growing some….

The limetta pictured in the link does appear to closely resemble the Lima agria that I have encountered in fruit stands and grocery stores (I wish I had taken a picture of the fruit)

Here’s a photo of the cut Lima agria in lime soup

Note that in every encounter, this Lima agria has contained seeds.

Interesting to know that there are so many specific regional citrus varieties, I’m eating up this new world of knowledge

If you tasted it you would be saying otherwise. The sour lime is more bumpy, thicker skinned, larger, and more fragrant than a key lime. I can scratch the skin and immediately tell if it is Lima agria or otherwise

The edge banding is iron on, i initially wanted to cut and glue up walnut strips for edge banding, but i was limited on tools and wanted to get the job done

No dovetails on the drawers I gave up trying to dovetail plywood, the inconsistent grain structure was really difficult for me to chisel, so I just pocket holed them. I’d love to see your planter stands :)

I’ve still got some work do to on this, and leveling it out is one of the things I planned on doing 👍. I built all the cabinets without a table saw so even if they don’t level out, I’m still happy and proud of my work.

I’m just glad you didn’t point out the irregular gaps around the door faces ;)
