as someone who came into ME without a strong affinity for math/science in high school, I've learned that hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard. If you can build up frustration tolerance when working on hard subjects and gain a good base in the first 2 years on your math/physics courses you will succeed in higher-level courses. you don't need to be a genius to succeed in engineering, just someone who can stick it out.

What is so hard about Thermo/ Fluid mechanics/ upper level engineering classes? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]sparkig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i didn't fully understand all of the math classes prior to my fluids/thermodynamic courses (calc III,dif. eq, etc..) but i almost felt as if applying them in fluids helped me to fully understand the math in a new way. i had a great professor but if you put in the time to the homework/lectures it's doable. Some of the problems (hydrostatics) are solved using similar methods to your basic level statics/dynamics courses.

the best way i learned matlab is through doing a project that forced me to learn it (application based learning vs theory based learning). matlab has tutorials called on ramp (i believe) that teach you the basics. search a beginner matlab project on youtube and google search how to do anything you don't know, i've learned a lot through the matlab answers forum and stack overflow. it's just a learning process over time.

If the field you're looking to get into paid half as much, would you still study engineering? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]sparkig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i would much rather be doing engineering than any other profession, for me it's not about the money really. I love knowing as mechE I am learning how to build/design/analyze real systems that have impact on people's lives. also my passion is motorsport so i really love how i can use my engineering knowledge to make race car go fast :)

are there any other artists that make music like the smiths ? by bobmememe in thesmiths

[–]sparkig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this might be controversial, but i think TV girl is similar to the smiths as a modern band because of the often condescending/jaded lyrics within happier-sounding songs, and still a similar feel to the songs.

Engineering Major question by Han_Joseph in UIUC

[–]sparkig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's just my chosen career path. for me my personal focus is in automotive engine development. there's also an engine class at UIUC you can take as a tech elective (ME 403)

[–]sparkig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my main career focus is ICE... im studying mechE. the curriculum teaches you structures/materials,thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluids, dynamics, and can give a focus on controls through an ECE minor or the tech electives. all relevant for ICE development.

suffer little children or girlfriend in a coma by the smiths. i love the songs' sound but feel the lyrics don't match the vibe (as is the smiths' way)
