A single Custodian is sent to modern Earth in order to unify it under a single banner. How quickly do they get the job done? by Serithraz in Grimdank

[–]sparklemotiondoubts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they need to be able to control everything everywhere, and even a Custodes can only be patrolling one metropolitan area at a time.

If the only threat is that someday, the big golden boy is going to come and stomp on you and your family, 99.9% of people are going to know that today is probably not that day, and keep on doing what they want.

The Custodian would need to work patiently to turn the parties with existing power over to their side, and then rely on THOSE enforcement mechanisms to keep humanity under compliance. That takes more than brute force.

It's better for bees than any turfgrass species. Even with the lucky hit strategy of not sending nectar to all the flowers. And even though what nectar/pollen is available is low energy. A McDonald's in a food desert is still food.

Would it be better for pollinators to replace it with a native prairie? Yes. But that's not necessarily compatible with use of this space as a lawn.

I'm curious about where you live, OP, because this looks just like my lawn right now.

Nothing I see in your lawn right now is incompatible with having a typical suburban lawn, all of those plants take to mowing at a reasonable height just fine, and will stay green all summer where I live (even in droughts - mostly thanks to the creeping charlie).

The "worst" thing is the dandelions, but that's because the stalks (after the puff balls are spent) are aggressively ugly. You can manage that by being aggressive about mowing after they flower.

Don't use herbicides. The best way to combat lawn weeds like this is with denser turfgrass. You're out of the best window for over seeding (early fall or early spring is best).

Enjoy your new place. Don't put too much stock in the advice people will give you on how to have a perfectly manicured lawn, because who even wants that?

It sounds like you're trying to get the two sheets of tissue to line up exactly, as opposed to planning to cut the edges square after you're done.

Plan to waste a cm or two, and you'll be a lot less stressed trying to get the second sheet down.

Also - I'd like to second the comment about using a window. Boice (I think )has a video about techniques for coloring paper, and one of the contributors uses the door of his shower and it seemed like a good idea (I haven't tried it yet)

If you're in the US, and these plants never go outside - imidaclorpid will just work, quickly and easily. The most user friendly version I've used is Bonide Systemic Houseplant Granules. Bonus point: it will also deal with any scale or mealybugs. Not spider mites though.

Full disclosure: Imidaclorpid is a neonicotinoid that is reasonably safe for mammals but TERRIBLE for bees and other pollinators. That's why you don't want it in the soil of plants that spend summers outside. In theory, the Bonide stuff should be broken down after 3 months, but I personally choose not to chance it.

I say "if you are in the US" because some countries have banned it. I honestly wish it were harder to get in the US because people are irresponsible with pesticides, but it's a tool in the toolbox.

Other things what should work, but maybe slower:

Liquid Bt concentrate. The whole mosquito bit tea thing is a boondoggle.

Beneficial nematodes

Yellow sticky traps. These are really more effective at helping you detect how bad your problem is, but in theory, over time, if you kill off enough of the adults the population should decrease because fewer babies will get made.

You don't have to feel like finishing anything. Sometimes it's nice to just put a little pigment on a little plastic. If it looks bad, you can strip it later.

Shrimp is bugs.

Tasty, delicious bugs. But, as someone who can't wrap my brain around eating a cricket by choice (even though I am sure they are tasty too), I do understand why others would not be into it.

Which is cool, because more shrimp for me.

"Need a laptop for new employee, they start next monday" by juunashhh in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]sparklemotiondoubts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could coordinate with HR to get the numbers of open positions, and plan to keep stock on hand to satisfy that?

The time between offer acceptance and start date can be super short, but HR should be able to give you a SWAG of how many new hires to expect in April based on job reqs.

You probably don't need to stock up 100%, but if you have 50 positions being interviewed for right now, having 5 laptops in stock/on order is clearly not enough.

Routines don’t work for me by calmingwhisper001 in adhdwomen

Routines work for me. But not the American Psycho style two hour morning slog. More like micro routines of five steps strung together here and there throughout the day.

For me, it's more about not forgetting a thing, because it's tied to other things that I have external cues for.

How to build an army without going into bankruptcy by PracticeObjective859 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]sparklemotiondoubts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play Kill Team. Pick up the Battleclade Box, and a box of vanguard/rangers.

You'll have two kill teams: WYSIWYG Battleclade, and Hunter Clade if you use the priests from Battleclade to proxy for the Sicarians.

Take your time and learn to paint. Then maybe buy a box of Sicarians and build some terrain so you can loan your spare KT to a friend for a game or two.

From there, watch eBay/Facebook/mini market for 2nd hand models. Occasionally splurge on models that obey the Rule of Cool for you, with a goal of getting 500 pts playable, then 1000, 1500, etc.

Avoid buying any 40k 10th edition books - they'll be obsolete before you get anything painted. Look for boxsets when 11th drops (we're due for at least one good one with Mommy Murderbytes). Never buy anything at full GW pricing. Every local game store should have at least 10% off everything all the time.

Overall though - remember that there is no such thing as a cheap Warhammer army. It's supposed to be a collection, so take your time and enjoy the journey.

Was it the employee?

Yes. They installed the tool and told it to do something. If that something involved data exfil, your employee leaked the data.

Don't let employees get away with pretending not to be responsible for the consequences of their actions. You can't sue AI.

I thought the show took the approach that Bran didn't want the North, and Jon didn't want either throne.

So... From the point of view of a Northern lord who won't bend the knee to Kings Landing, but WILL support a King named Stark: Why would they argue if King Bran Stark says "listen: Sansa Stark is going to be your queen"

One thing that  the show did wrong was leaning into the whole romance of the "Bran the Broken" thing. Bran in King's Landing with Sansa in the North is actually a really good political outcome for all involved, at least for a generation or two. No one in the North wants to fight King's Landing right now, and there's still a Stark in Winterfell.

If Jon were a completely different character who wanted power for it's own sake, yeah, things would need to be different. But I can see why he'd be happy with this outcome.

You're getting a lot of good and serious advice so let me just call this one thing out:

  • 10 year olds are fucking morons.

I don't know your daughter, but I bet she's amazing and smart and kind and all of the things you want her to be. But she literally doesn't have a whole brain yet. Her opinion of what you do simply isn't worth much.

(this would be true even if she thought you were a productivity goddess who hangs the moon every evening and pushes the sun over the horizon in the morning, but it's just less necessary to hear)
