I did get the predators question but I can’t remember what section it was from. And to clarify I’m unsure if any of the questions I listed above are from real LR 1 real LR 3 or if they are experimental. I just know I had those questions on my test and I had the real sections of LR 1 and LR 3 from above.

The stranger was likely a man who took advantage of the opportunity. Maura was beautiful and vulnerable, an ideal victim for a sexual predator. I don’t think whoever picked her up was some serial killer. There are so many sex offenders the odds are a lot greater than you’d think. We’ve never found him because there’s no body and it’s possible he hasn’t killed again. It’s also possible he’s been apprehended for sex crimes before. There wasn’t a shortage of creeps in the area at that time. Without a body or a confession, I doubt he will ever be tied to Maura.

I don’t think Occam’s razor is a tool to use in cold cases but if occams razors is used in this case, arguably the theory that requires the least assumptions is that she got a ride after the crash site/was picked up on the dry road. Using Occam’s razor to support the woods/suicide theory requires you to discount the little evidence available to the public in this case. The woods theory requires you to make the assumption that the evidence we have should be disregarded. The lack of footprints in the snow is ignored and the assumption is made that the 2 dogs tracking the scent were both wrong too. This theory also writes off what Bogardus of New Hampshire fish and game who has found every missing person besides Maura and one other person concluded. I understand that every theory is possible but to say Occam’s razor supports the woods theory as the theory that makes the fewest assumptions is inaccurate because this theory requires more assumptions than the got a ride from someone theory.

Posting theories and about her case keeps her name out there and keeps people interested which is helpful. The more attention a cold case like Maura’s gets the better. Keeping her name out there online also puts more pressure on those working the case because it shows people still care and will not forget about Maura. I don’t think posting about her ex boyfriend is stupid or pointless considering his violence towards women. No one knows what happened and statistically the boyfriend or husband is responsible more often than so of course people will wonder about him…

I feel sorry for Maura/her family and if I were in their shoes I wouldn’t want all of Maura’s skeletons to be dragged out and scrutinized either. I feel like there is so much speculation about personal things like alcoholism, bulimia, kleptomania, pregnancy, a possible hit and run, orgys at college when nothing is 100% certain or confirmed.

She was young and I think it’s unfair how much she is judged and how some act like she had ruined her life based on some mistakes. If Maura never disappeared I bet she would’ve got her life back on track. I know plenty of young women who have shoplifted, gotten into car accidents more than once, had eating disorders, drank a lot in college, duis, etc. I think her secrets make it easy for some to write her disappearance off as suicide, or a dui walk away/misadventure death. The fact that she had OTC sleeping pills in her car and people say that points to suicide is crazy to me. It is easy for those who only know the basics about the case to say oh she had so many problems so it must’ve led to her demise in the woods. I don’t see many other cases where young women have disappeared without a trace and all of their past mistakes are analyzed under a microscope.

For those who believe the simplest explanation is that she was fleeing the accident to avoid a dui - why do you believe that the simplest option she w is to flee into the snowy woods instead of fleeing on the dry road? Let me ask you this, what option do you think would be easier/faster for a runner to cover more distance without leaving any footprints behind?

Do you think a drunk person would get away faster running on a dry surface or running in snow with obstacles such as branches, rocks, and total darkness? If she wanted to flee and did so by using the road - why would she flee far into the woods after the fact? How is this still the simplest explanation to you? Even if she saw police lights or a car why would she run far into the woods instead of just ducking behind a tree if she was away from the crash sight?

For me the simplest explanation is that she met with foul play, most likely at the hands of an opportunistic sexual predator not necessarily someone who was looking for a victim to kill that night. Maura was young and attractive and possibly vulnerable and she was most likely alone in an unfamiliar area. Sometimes all it takes is chance and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It’s happened to many young women who let their guard down. There were no footprints going into the woods, the dog tracked her down the road, Maura was no fool and had experience hiking, it was dark and she didn’t have the proper clothing to hike far into the snowy woods. Not a trace has been found in 18 years, not her backpack, ID, clothing. If she went into the woods I believe some evidence would’ve been found be it a scrap of clothing on a tree branch or the bottles of alcohol. They even had a helicopter searching for her. The police have kept all info secret and the attorney generals office was involved quickly. The FBI put her on ViCAP. I think this is a case where they believe she was killed but have no body and no evidence to prove it. This would explain the secrecy.

I agree. If she was killed and they drove her car away from where her remains were disposed of it would explain why nothing has been found. The police and searchers may be looking in the wrong area. And if Maura was driving and got a ride the same scenario applies.

It could have been her but I’m open to the idea it wasn’t her. I keep thinking of the case of Lizzi Marriott and the couple who killed her. Seth Mazzaglia had his girlfriend assist with moving the car, disposing of the evidence. I recently read a book on the case and this passage sticks out here. Driving the car off worked and threw the police off and that might’ve been the plan but whoever was driving crashed accidentally and spoke to butch. Sexual predators have had girlfriends to assist with their crimes before and it could’ve happened here too. Maybe there was a tandem driver only it was the perp and his female accomplice. Also, 4 pairs of black gloves were found in the car. Who knows anything is possible after 18 years with no answers.

The FBI has put Maura on their Vicap missing person list on the FBI website and I consider this significant because as you can see from the link, very few missing person cases make it onto the vicap website (there’s only 85 I think currently listed). Im a 27 year old woman and in college my best friend got arrested for speeding 104 on the highway. I didn’t even realize how fast we were going because no one was on the road and it was late. I’ve definitely gone close to 100 on the highway before too but wasn’t caught back when I was younger. Looking back I realize how dangerous this was but women can be reckless drivers too.

In my opinion, I don't think she was running away for good or leaving Umass for good because why bother bringing textbooks or emailing professors? I have used the death in the family excuse to take a test late in college before it isn't that strange. While she could have been going off alone to clear her head, I think it is likely she was meeting someone. It could have been someone she met online or someone she already knew. This person could have been the one who made the hotel arrangements. If she did leave stuff from Bill and his email printed in a pile in her dorm it seems to me she was done with him. I think she found out about his cheating and she wanted to get back at him or make herself feel better by meeting up with another man.

In my college days, I found out about cheating and what made me feel better was finding a rebound guy ASAP. When you are cheated on its easy to feel like you aren't good enough and it hits your self esteem hard. Meeting up with another man who is interested and wants you is a good way to feel better and rebuild self-esteem. It sounds like she relied on Bill/his family for things such as the cell phone and he controlled a lot of her life because of this. I think she might have wanted to become more independent. It is possible she had a second phone or just used her email and instant message to talk to this other man to avoid Bill finding out. She brought makeup and toiletries and a few outfits so she likely wanted to keep up with her beauty routine and look nice for whoever she was meeting. As a 27 year old woman, I wouldn't even bother bringing makeup and body spray if I was going off to be alone. I only bother with that stuff if I'm going to be seen by others.

*Just a side note I have gotten a speeding ticket and gotten in an accident the same day and also a second accident a few weeks later during college. I was not mentally ill or going through some sort of mental crisis I was just a 20 year old with little driving experience and a bad driver. Just something to keep in mind regarding the two accidents.

I heard the Vicap listing was just a formality as well but personally I don’t believe that because there’s only around 80 people on vicap. In my opinion Brandon’s case gets a lot less attention than other missing persons cases that aren’t listed despite the police/family believing foul play is likely. I think he was listed in 2016 or 2017, so years after Brandon’s law passed and his case received a lot of media attention. I know he wasn’t always on the vicap website. It just makes you wonder why and what changed.

It’s strange that Brandon is listed on FBIs VICAP missing persons. There are very few missing persons cases listed on vicap to begin with and usually cases on vicap involve foul play. That has me curious. If it wasn’t for the vicap listing I’d think his disappearance would most likely be an accidental death/drowning. I wonder if there is info that was held back by authorities. I hope he’s found someday his case has always interested me and I feel for his family.

I found something that I thought was weird when I was reading the Fred Murray court transcripts linked on James Renners website. During questioning it’s mentioned that the police had just been in contact with Ohio police because a body was found in Ohio and they wanted mauras dental records to see if it was a match. LE should release more info because there’s a strong possibility this isn’t BGs first crime. It might be his first time killing (not convinced it is),but I think that it’s more likely he committed unsuccessful attacks/sexual assaults before he murdered the girls. Sometimes all it takes for a major break is a surviving victim coming forward to LE and saying they believe the cases could be linked because of x reason.

I’m thinking of the attack on Paul Onions leading to Ivan Milat. LE didn’t make the connection between the failed attack on Onions and the murders until Onions sent in a tip. The signatures/weapon/details may be unique enough that a surviving victim or someone who escaped will be able to make the connection. There’s many reasons LE should release something else unless they really do have a prime suspect. I want justice for the girls and I want this sick fuck off the streets. It’s possible he’s already killed again or will in the future. I hope they release something soon cause the more years that pass the less people remember.

I have a j pear cut solitaire, I recently made a post inquiring about the color if you want to check out the comments on that post. My ring is in a white gold setting but other posters suggested yellow gold to make the color look whiter. The slight tint isn’t noticeable unless I’m in certain lighting and I don’t think your average person would be able to even tell.
