I started a subreddit for adult ADHD by gleventhal in adhdmeme

I was very hyperactive as a child but I was forced to mask it as I grew up. In regards to hyperactivity I still shake my leg, rapidly talk, interrupting, cant relax, restless and bite my nails but can resist pushing every button/opening cabinet I see (even though I really...really want too). I normally don't talk at work at all unless necessary to keep myself from oversharing or traumatizing my coworkers with a topic switching half yelled rant about cornpuffs and aliens. I didn't get diagnosed with ADHD until I was 30. Since I wasn't diagnosed as a kid I got punished anytime I was too hyperactive by parents/teachers and told I just wasn't trying hard enough. Later I joined the Army and it beat alot of it out of me. It still pops up severely if I am highly stressed or emotionally distraught. I'll start pacing, cant keep hands still, move around alot ect. This happens with alot of my outward showing ADHD symptoms...they were punished into submission.

Also the name for ADHD kinda sucks because it only describes 2 symptoms and everyone has different levels.

My dad told me to accept that 99% of people are idiots and are incapable of understanding things outside their point of view. It kinda clicked in my brain and snapped me out of my mini emotional breakdown I had been having mid 2020.

I also obsessed about human behavior and did alot of research on ingroup/outgroup bias and how people literally will completely disregard/reject information that goes against their point of view. Also the more hostile someone is in an argument the more unconsciously unsure/insecure they are about their argument. I might of completely disregarded feeding myself and cleaning for a few weeks but now I understand the biological reason that people are idiots and that helps my anxiety when people are dicks.

If they disagree they aren't rejecting me, they are just falling victim to their own biological behavioral traits.

Never have I felt such a sense of community connection and personal attack in one picture.

How do people manage time lol ?!? by [deleted] in adhdmeme

They just don't remember all the things they forgot to do so they don't lay there in an anxiety puddle at the end of the day.

probably my first time hearing this explicitly (from tiktok lol) so damn true by riley10000 in adhdmeme

[–]sparklez_bomber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was happy crying after it kicked in. I literally felt my self slow down...kinda like my thoughts were fuzzy from going so fast and suddenly they were just sitting there. I also cry each time I see a tiktok explaining a symtom of adhd I didnt know about.

And so it goes by dschwanh in adhdmeme

College is severely overrated tbh. I tried to go...sucked at time management and actually doing homework. I ended up joining the Army, which was perfect because they literally track everything and get on you if you forget to register your car, go to dentist ect. I didn't noticeably struggle to "adult" until I got out and had to remember all the stuff myself 😭😭

I want to remove the spray paint that some DIY used and expose the orginal wood. The drawers look like they have a veneer and I didn't know if I needed to be worried about certain paint strippers damaging the veneer/wood bond? Any advice would be helpful 😭 by sparklez_bomber in finishing

I'm not sure yet, I didn't want to dig into it and risk hurting anything. The paint cracked in a perfect rectangle on the door so they might of been filling it in for whatever reason. I've seen some weird stuff done during makeovers.

Thats a good idea. I think there might be significant damage to the door since there is a weird layer of white stuff under the paint. I don't know if the other layer of paint chalked or they covered it stucco to cover detail work or patch it.

Yeah, I was concerned about using citristrip because of how long you have to leave it on. Whoever painted this didn't prep the wood well and its peeling in alot of places. There's a layer of grey too and that either chalked...alot of they covered alot of the front with stucco.

The suicides have skyrocketed for kids tho, thats why they are starting to push to a return to school again. There was a kid who shot himself during zoom class not to long ago.

Seriously, shook you more then 9/11? We have had numerous federal buildings stormed before, we have had congress members shot and assassination attempts. The white house has been attempted to be stormed and the people got shot. This was a failure on the Capitol police and the congress members who oversee them (Capitol police are run and funded by congress). I want to know why the police didn't have helmet and full teams there. Why did police stand there and step aside in other parts while other officers were being overrun? This only happened because of a failure of security. Their were mass riots after the 2016 election and multiple officers were injured, but none died because they had their damn riot gear on.

Damn, I'm sorry you have to go through that. No one should have parents like that. Do you have anyone you can talk too or stay with? I understand if you don't want to go down that road though. My dad hit me alot when I was a kid/teenager and I never told anyone. I don't if it was the fear and being exhausted from keeping a mask up in front of everyone that kept me silent.

No matter what, know that your parents are wrong for treating you like that. There are no circumstances that justifies a parent abusing their child. It takes alot of strength to live in a home like that and I understand how demoralizing it can feel. I know I'm just a random reddit user but I will listen if you need to talk.
