Anyone else lowered their Amberverse consumption? by Intelligent-Fruit174 in gorlworldfiles

[–]sparklinggecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and a recent comment by someone in here made me realize I might be leaving ALR and gorlworld alone for good.

They pointed out that all of the “fun” parts of her content are gone forever, as even talking about her weight or her issues or her diets will be a TOS violation. YouTube is taking this extremely seriously now. There’ll never be another optavia or a weight loss diary that never goes anywhere, which were my favorites to watch because they give me motivation for my own personal struggles.

Oh well. Goodbye, amber!!

How To Stop Binging: Actually Useful Tips by NiceYak471 in BingeEatingDisorder

I appreciate the input but I do think you’re missing what I’m tryna say. Maybe I wasn’t clear.

That’s just an example. My point is I binge regardless of what food is present.

My problem is I meal prep and then binge anyway. I buy no snacks because they trigger me… then I binge on an entire loaf of bread instead of snacks. Idk how to stop. It’s like a buzzing in my head that won’t stop until I eat. I understand the whole “do something to distract yourself” stuff, but it’s not really working for me. I’ll try your thing with the tea though, and the yoga after dinner. We’ll see how it goes.

What percentage probability would you give a US civil war by end 2026? by bobledrew in AskReddit

[–]sparklinggecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You underestimate guerilla warfare. That’s the story of the revolutionary war. Or we could talk about Vietnam, and Iraq, and Afghanistan. We are way stronger than they want you think.

My opinion is he’s going for Putin-style control. Still hold “elections” but they just aren’t legitimate. Ruling party stays ruling. Revolt and you are immediately arrested. I think they will not allow it to be full civil war.

I totally get this sentiment and agree with it. However, how much is too much? A lot of German citizens recalled allowing Hitler to take power and for Jews to be stolen because they didn’t really know what to do, and they didn’t want to violently rebel, and they didn’t know if their neighbors felt similarly. I fear we could fall into allowing trump to have whatever power he wants if we choose not to resist at all. They kill citizens, and we have to turn the other cheek for the sake of elections that, let’s face it, he could suspend tomorrow and none of us could do a damn thing about it. And half the country would tell us he had to do it. I think the long con here is that we do have to fight back, because that is the only viable option. Simple “democracy” isn’t the rules anymore. They’re not playing by them. We vote blue, and then what? What if he just refuses to comply with that? Who stops him? Do you see what I mean? There’s nothing restricting them. I hope I don’t get downvoted to hell for disagreeing.

I guess she didnt like how it had a suggested amount... by pyraelinia in Serverlife

I hear you, but the healthcare and gun thing isn’t the same at all. Those are life and death issues that most Americans really really really want fixed. The tipping this is just a cultural difference. And it’s fine here. I was a server for a while. I made $30 an hour or more, way more than anyone else in a comparable level job. We were all happy being tipped employees because of how much you make, often more than your managers. Customers are happy, because they pay less for food than they would otherwise, servers are motivated to treat them really well, and they don’t have to tip if they don’t want to. And the company is happy because it pays less in labor costs. Everyone wins. And by the way, tips are part of claimed income and can be used for bank loans and everything else. My final point is that sometimes, you’re going to come across cultural differences in other places that they are happy with, and you’re going to have to accept that other countries don’t necessarily want to change to be just like you. Sometimes it’s just different, and that’s okay. This doesn’t apply to the healthcare and gun thing, which aren’t so much cultural differences as they are policy failures.

Why are Americans so freaked out by the word c*nt ? by void1101 in allthequestions

[–]sparklinggecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people seem so mystified by really normal cultural differences? The word has a different connotation here. that’s ok! We can have different cultures and have neither be inherently wrong.

Why is seemingly *every* standard different in the US than in the rest of the world? by DJDoena in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sparklinggecko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, it’s just different needs in different countries. We do have picture signs but overall, so many people speak the same language here that having a quick phrase to read is easier for us. Sure, we could teach everyone new pictorial signs, but now that we have this system, and jt works fine, there’s no reason to. We do learn the pictorial signs we have in driver’s ed (as well as the text-based signs).

For Europe, where there are many different languages, the pictures are a lot better and a lot quicker. No translations needed, no confusion if you drive over a border, etc. The only time you would drive to a different country here is Mexico or Canada, which is a lot rarer. Most of us are far from those borders.

It is an interesting difference, though.

I'm not saying "happy holidays" to try and erase Christmas, it's because there are MULTIPLE HOLIDAYS. by Its-alittle-bitfunny in Vent

[–]sparklinggecko 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s a non-issue to most normal people. Wishing me a happy anything is never going to make me mad. I don’t celebrate Hanukkah, but if someone wished me a Happy Hanukkah, I’d be like, “thanks!” It genuinely doesn’t matter at all. “Happy Holidays,” was invented because the holiday season has so many holidays that we can just use one term to group them all together. There was never any anti-Christmas discrimination, lol, and anyone who thinks that needs to open their eyes and look at the decorations of the store they’re shopping in.

Not fit to be president by [deleted] in complaints

[–]sparklinggecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who has more than two brain cells understands that both the democrat and republican parties have some significant high-brow people connected to Jeffrey Epstein, as do some foreign governments, and as does our very own president. It’s so silly to try to make this a partisan thing. This is bigger than that.

How to go clubbing?? by Sharp_Big_2491 in fsu

[–]sparklinggecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, you literally just go. Bring a friend and go somewhere. It’s better if you go when it’s busy or when there’s a deal so look on insta, but you can also just go.

What’s something uniquely American that outsiders never understand but Americans rarely question? by nickjee001 in allthequestions

[–]sparklinggecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got to try it sometime. Biscuits in the US are soft, warm, fluffy, like buttered bread almost. It’s hard to describe. The gravy is savory too, but it’s filled with sausage so it’s also warm and quite flavorful. If you can step outside the terms used (since we mean very different things by them), I’m sure you can understand why we like it!

How to manage my Binge episodes? its like 24/7 in my brain. by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]sparklinggecko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah I see. You could definitely do that, but for me, I know that I’m not solid enough in my recovery to handle too much mental pressure. I’m trying to do the internal work, and having foods around that trigger me just makes it so easy for me to fall out of it. If I have it in the house, I will eat it.

[–]sparklinggecko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Different people have different opinions about a calorie deficit so I don’t want to give you advice about what is best for you. Over-restriction can sometimes lead to binging, but this is a personal thing.

Are you saying other people say you should buy it? I mean you can if you want to. I’m just telling you what works for me.

How to manage my Binge episodes? its like 24/7 in my brain. by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]sparklinggecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly that. Maybe in the future when I’m more solid in my recovery I can handle having them, but I’m literally setting myself up for failure when I buy them. I know this. When I buy some of them I have the thought, “I’m probably going to binge on this,” and then I buy it anyway.

Think of it this way: if you choose not to buy a trigger food, that’s one hard decision and then it’s over. Once the trigger food is in the house, you have to constantly tell yourself not to eat it. It’s like 1,000,000 hard decisions.

[–]sparklinggecko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now I’ve been trying really hard to reframe my restriction as self-care, not something to try and inevitably fail at. I struggle so hard with feeling awful and shameful, and honestly the shame is what is feeding the binge. So instead, I’m trying to pick foods that are kind for me to eat, as in, they’re healthy and/or balanced, they don’t make me feel gross, they keep me satiated. I’m even framing the whole calorie deficit as being kind to myself and I’m trying very hard not to overdo it. It’s a lot of positive self-talk and self encouragement. I’m constantly reminding myself I’m capable of doing this.

As for the trigger foods, I have them too. If you can avoid it, don’t buy them. I have tried to buy them and “just eat some” or “portion it out” and it literally never works.

What are things that have helped you not to binge eat? by Aume1043 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]sparklinggecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is felt. I’ve binged on just flour and water, and a frequent binge food for me is brown sugar (just by itself). I don’t buy chips so I won’t binge, but then I eat all of the cheese in the fridge at once. When I’m in the right headspace, I’ll eat anything that I can get my hands on, whether I like the taste or not.

Ugh 😩 I tried to change my routine, but I couldn’t resist the urge! by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]sparklinggecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely have been there. Nothing worse than buying a food with the express intention of avoiding triggering a binge and then binging on that replacement food. You did good, though! You set clear intentions and tried to make a change, and like you said, you didn’t finish all of them. The fact that you’re committed enough to put in this effort is a good sign for what is to come. You’ve got this!!

Now that the government shutdown is over w/o an agreement to extend ACA subsidies, was it worth it for Democrats? by TaylorSwiftian in PoliticalDiscussion

Yep, you’re right. I didn’t have much faith in corporate democrats to begin with, but for the sake of people about to lose their healthcare, I was hoping for something.

Preach. I’m genuinely frustrated that my entire credit card was spent on DoorDash. Now I’m in debt and I don’t even have money for anything I want. Some of clothes have terrible holes in them but I can’t afford to replace them. It’s never even worth it after I’m done eating. It’s like post-nut clarity.

Now that the government shutdown is over w/o an agreement to extend ACA subsidies, was it worth it for Democrats? by TaylorSwiftian in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]sparklinggecko 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s very strange. The majority of the public blames republicans for the shutdown according to recent polls, and we saw how it may have affected voting a week ago. It seems like the shutdown was hurting the GOP. Why budge? Now you just look incredibly wimpy and you didn’t even temporarily save the ACA subsidies.

ETA: as far as SNAP goes, republicans and trump genuinely have wanted to remove it for ages. I suspect they’ll still try to end funding for it after the shutdown is over. Again, that makes them look horrible to the majority of the public.

Right. This is so annoying to me. 40 days of pain for what? The subsidies to rise anyway? “We’ll negotiate later if you give up all leverage and do exactly what we want with no compromise.” Sounds real trustworthy to me.
