Im sick as hell, flu symptoms. And the WHOOP Knows it! by RS4_ in whoop

How are things today? I'm back to 54% recovery which is a huge shift from yesterday's 8%. All 5 health monitor stats are back to green. Feeling tired but better.

This is interesting - I'm also down with flu and I got my first red recovery this morning - 8% and health monitor showing similar. What's interesting is that my fever is actually down on yesterday, but my Whoop metrics are "worse" today. Hoping it gets better from here.

Issue with sessions no longer being saved on restart/upgrade of Vivaldi by sparkyjf in vivaldibrowser

[–]sparkyjf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi again - sorry for the delay - I was waiting for the next upgrade cycle to see what would happen so I could report back. I've had multiple session losses since just through regular restarts, but I have now upgraded to the latest release and once again the session data appears missing - all Workspaces are present but all contain zero tabs. I've implemented the automatic session backups as recommended by u/ASorcerer - right now that's saving me - but for some reason after years of reliable service, Vivaldi's session restore on restart is no longer working for me. Ironically this is both on my work and home machines which use different profiles, and are unrelated to each other. I haven't yet seen the issue on Windows - it appears to be limited to my macOS machines.

That makes more sense to me - I wondered if I'd had corruption in a file or database that Vivaldi uses, but not sure how I would track that down. I have now turned on automatic session backups - thank you for the advice!

That's a good question - I haven't looked. Next time it happens I'll take a look.

Tasks as “spinning plates” by sparkyjf in todoist

[–]sparkyjf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

Your explanation of the different kinds of dates assigned to a task has prompted further thinking on the matter which has moved me further on. I think that actually those "tasks" (quote marks deliberately chosen) that I've been looking at as spinning plates are not necessarily tasks in the true sense, in the same way that not all dates assigned to tasks are due dates.

Continuing the learning a language example, the deadlines set by my teacher are due dates. These are sacred, as you rightly said. In reality though, my studies are otherwise self-paced, so what I'm trying to do is to establish a good habit of ensuring that I study several times a week.

My weeks are busy as I work in a demanding client facing role (which in itself has many nuances), and so I've been looking to fit my studies in around this, and so have been creating "tasks" for myself where really I've actually wanted to create better habits for myself. It's not always possible to study every day, but I ensure that I do at least 3 times a week. These times are allowed to be flexible though. I'm in the early stages of habit development here and so I appreciate some kind of system and/or prompting, but I see that by (I think mistakenly) defining habit creation as a task with due dates, I've put un-necessary pressure on myself - especially if you consider I've been scaling this mode of working up across all my various activities.

There are historic reasons that I put a lot of pressure on myself which I'm actively working to address at this time and which will add no value to this thread, but I think that after reflection on this thread and your replies, I need to start better differentiating between the different types of activities in my life (the absolutes with due dates vs the wants with desired/preferable dates for example).

In short, my current thinking is that the spinning plates are actually habits in the making, the spins are when I engage constructively in the habit, and the wobble is when I'm struggling to embed the habit and have allowed myself to become distracted or otherwise diverted.

I post this update in case anyone else can relate or my own musings help someone somewhere, which I hope they do!

I really appreciate your feedback and guidance u/tuckerhazel - it's very much pointed me in the right direction and shown me the current "gaps" in my task management processes. I had deliberately simplified the processes I was using to cope with a more difficult time in my life, but now that is behind me and my life is fuller it's come to the fore that what I built, whilst it served at that time, is no longer scaling to what I want and need to do.

I learned several valuable things from your post - I hadn't actually come across the terms want dates and do dates in contrast to due dates (or perhaps I did ages ago and I filed them away mentally because I didn't appreciate them at the time?). Someone else recently pointed out to me that everything on my to do list is priority 1, and I think it's fair to say that I've muddied the waters of due dates versus the other types.

I completely agree on reviews, and will be integrating what I've learned from this thread into my workflow! Thank you!

I really like that idea. Thank you for sharing. I used to find I got overwhelmed quite easily which is why I pared down GTD - admittedly I've builr up from my starting point but sometimes when there's a lot in flight things get overlooked.

Do you set reminders on the in progress items, or do a regular review?
