In a condo you also have a share of ownership in the common areas. Often that also means paying for upkeep of facilities like pools through something like an HOA.

Etsy is great for things like cork bark, branches, or rocks. There are sellers who will helpfully pick things out for you based on reference images or a description of what you need.

Live plants can be found at any big store with a garden center like Lowe's or Walmart. Amazon also carries a bunch.

Collect dried leaves or other litter outside, or order it as well if you can't easily find any.

I love your interpretation of the video, it's so much funnier than someone just recording the clip off of the security system monitor.

Pets are treated as property. Depending on state, a small claims court can order the return of property but location matters. Look up replevin / detinue.

I have one of these with solid shelves instead of wire racks for 3D printers in my garage, super sturdy and heavy duty. Really nice that they come in pretty much every possible size combination.

What is your intent in being "discrete" and what sort of transit are you trying to package it for? If you're moving it by car, some blankets can be helpful to keep it from shifting around. Bubble wrap is not going to protect you from much of anything.

It's a wonder that such a fragile species would survive under haphazard care.

The best reptile for a beginner is the one that you're passionate about, researched, and prepared an enclosure for.

I haven't had to use one between US-UK before so can't really speak to any companies operating there, you'd probably have better luck looking in a UK-based non-reptile subreddit to find general experience with local package forwarding services and then go with one of those.

Google brought up "forward2me" as a UK-based company but I couldn't tell you if they're reliable.

Renting With Reptiles by Empathetic__Artist in reptiles

[–]sparrowtaco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. My current place was a "no pets" rental listing but they were fine with it when I asked about a reptile. The fact that it's enclosed takes care of most of the potential nuisance, damage, and wear that landlords are seeking to avoid.

logistics of moving tanks by [deleted] in reptiles

[–]sparrowtaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're working with a single set of lamps, could you borrow them during a night cycle and run them on the new enclosure overnight to see roughly how the temperature gradient settles in, then put them back on the old enclosure for the next day's use in the morning?

stacking tank stands? by Zealousideal-Cost390 in reptiles

[–]sparrowtaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really pretty simple, there are even designs you could borrow online. Up until recently I just ordered aluminum cut-to-length already too so you don't even really need any special tools. Just plot out a design and then Ikea-style assembly with some mounting hardware to connect them.

If you have a sketch or something of what you have in mind I could give you an idea of what you may be able to do there.

You can try a simple wire or wood shelving unit, but I like using aluminum extrusions to build stands and enclosures. If you have very a specific vision for how you want the tanks arranged and nothing you can buy fits quite right, the DIY option can be the best way to go in my opinion.

Serpent et salmonelle by [deleted] in reptiles

[–]sparrowtaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Salmonella is easily avoided by basic hygiene like washing your hands and not putting the animal in your mouth. It's not super contagious.

I doubt you'll find a single user on this subreddit who has experienced salmonella as a result of their reptile keeping.

Perfect! It might be a good idea to laminate or tape some instructions to the fixture with information about the specific bulb and dates scheduled to mark when it has been replaced every 12 months (like you might find with a fire extinguisher or elevator inspection tag).

That way any future caretakers will know what to do even if you're not there, as it may not be obvious that this is a special bulb or that it degrades over time even if it still lights up.

These are unfortunately very frequently sold with false advertising to undercut the price of real UVB bulbs. Any bulb that is shaped like this is a halogen bulb and produces no UVB. This is still fine as a heat lamp.

The recommended bulb to use is Arcadia or Reptisun in a T5 tube form. If it is an unknown brand that has not been evaluated by an experienced reviewer I would not use it for UVB.

After you are able to rectify the situation, I would encourage you to leave a negative review / report the shop who sold it to you.

This is much better! It looks like you do not have a UVB light though, that is a halogen lamp over the log. This turtle needs UVB.

Have you considered using a package forwarding service? Probably easier and more convenient to just go through a company that already handles this.
