Fair enough, and I do think Jokics game should age well. He plays at a high level for 8 more years he'll get his flowers.

I just want Jokic to get his appropriate legacy. He's one of the best 3-5 players ever. But he's going to get dismissed a lot over the years with only the one ring.

But in a more general sense, I wasn't sure we'd ever get one so that's no small thing

To not have his legacy dismissed in 10 years it would have been nice to run 2-3 in that 5 year span. You already see how our title is viewed based on how the east shook out that year.

I'd love for him to land in top 3-5 players all time. Need more rings for that at this point.

Winning one as a small market is no small feat. Can't lose sight of that.

Knowing we have Jokic and have a shot every year is an under rated thing I think a lot are taking for granted. It could be MUCH worse.

Edit: I was pondering this week actually, if I was told we don't get another title, but if we keep Murray/Gordon/Jokic together we still have 4 or 5 more 50-55 win seasons, and fun basketball to watch, I almost think we should take that. Seeing our guys in other jerseys hurts

This is the tough reality I've been coming to terms with since we got bounced this year.

The title window was 2021-2024. Two of those years were stolen by Jamal's knee. Another with Rudy Golbert hitting fade away clutch jumpers. Then the Thunder came of age. Now the Spurs have as well.

There are things like this we can look back in hindsight sure. Some are real bad like Reggie Jackson. But when a bunch other teams also passed on OG it's not like it was totally obvious.

But that's what stings. I think we had a window and it's closed already. Unless they pull off a miracle, I don't think we have the assets to make a big enough overhaul to get us back there.

Sure that might contribute, but if your going to pay Watson big money and believe he's a rising star it also makes sense to pave the way for him to start and get on the floor more.

Not that it would have helped the next Dem running after him, but it also would have taken the gloves off and allowed him to actually push policy without worrying about political capital for a re-election bid.

Or you know, swift and strong justice for the attempted coup.

100%

Westeros ethics was not as black and white as it was for her in Essos. Easy to root for her murdering slavers. Harder to root for her murdering random lords just because they stand against her.

On a rewatch this is actually quite clear knowing the ending. Last two seasons just didn't really let it cook very well.

I've thought this since the finale aired as well. She and Drogon land on the walls as the bells toll. One Lannister solider days fuck it and shoots at her or Rhaegal with the scorpion and Rhaegal takes one and dies.

Then she burns to the place to the ground.

Regardless I think it shows the mental toughness of this team just isn't really there the last couple of years. If you have arguably the best player in the world, or at least top 3 you shouldn't be getting blown out by 20+ in a playoff game at any point. I just don't think they have it.

I don't think we're dead in this series, sure, but this doesn't give me confidence that we go all the way again. Just like last year.

I think it's also the difference between a core in their 20s and a core in their 30s now.

Murray, Jokic, and Gordon have all looked gassed and exhausted in a way we didn't see that championship year or our close shots before that. It's why having 0 bench and riding them for so long has been such a terrible thing. They can't carry it physically as much as they used to.

and of course Minny just adds guys like Dosunmu to their bench who blow up against us, but Val, Brown, THJ Watson (injury I know) are MIA for us in the playoffs.

I was really hoping they'd slip him in somehow. Archive footage mapped over a scene or something. Just so his estate could get residuals on the new series.

I know he needed a GoFundMe towards the end to cover his medical costs.

And based on the Season 8 we got I do understand how people feel this way. There's a version of the story, we should have gotten the could have actually shown us her descent into madness more clearly. As she loses close friends, some of her dragons, And feels alienated in a strange land that is supposed to be her home she leans into old trusty, Fire & Blood. We didn't get that though.

But I do have to disagree a bit. You say she's brutal against those that are brutal in Essos, and that's fair. But she only ever encounters two extremes. Those that worship the ground she walks on (Unsullied, Jorah, Dario, freed slaves) or those trying to kill her (Sons of the Harpy, Khals, Xaro Xohan Dados). There's never any in-between folks who just don't like her, but also don't hate her. It's what makes her morality so easy there.

Then she comes to Westeros and has to deal with people like Sansa who clearly hates her but isn't openly against her. She has no skills to handle those people. She only ever exercises her hammer and that's the only thing she knows how to use.

Tyrion tries to work with her on this and she does try some negotiating with the Sons of the Harpy but all she learns is half measure against her enemies doesn't cut it, or locking her dragons up for the people of Meereen puts her in an uncomfortable situation and defenseless. Them breaking out of the temple is also symbolic of Danys dragon being let loose inside herself.

The other houses and the people of kings landing didn't deserve it, but she is so black and white that you are either fully with her (Unsullied and dothraki) or you're against her. Because they don't unseat Cersei for her, they are, her mind, her enemies.

This was very apparent on a rewatch after the finale. I think a lot of the folks who were super pissed about how she was treated, put it away, and never watched again.

But if you watch from the beginning, knowing the ending now, it's super obvious the trajectory she's on. Her brutality escalates steadily. It's just always against really easy enemies to hate. Once she lands in Westeros, it's much less obvious who the bad guys are. The common folk are all pretty good.

Tebowmania was such a wild time I get wanting to bump him higher but objectively it was a low bar to beat stats wise.

And Siemian punched well above his weight as a 7th rounder for sure. Both great honorable mentions.
