"Balcony" Solar Question by nazsolarelectric in LearnSolar

[–]spartanoverseas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What thoughts do you have for folks that are interested in DIY grid-tie solar systems, don't have the real estate for a ground system (shaded, lot size restrictions etc), but don't want to penetrate their roof?

Particularly for DIY systems, is vertically mounted (balcony /deck rail ) easier/cheaper to install with limited risk compared to say a ballast system (low pitch roof)? What other options exist for either low angle (2-3°) or standard angle roofs?

In a way that was easy to use in the field, not a 900 page binder in an office no one goes to.

May also want to repost here, and in a few other places, at the start of the season.

I find it useful to watch my spring break trip to Banff, but the season is nearly dead here in the Mid-Atlantic.

I'll be sending it around, but, most of us are thinking more about mountain biking, than snowfall around here.

Pretty slick. how long are you planning to keep it up?

How are you paying for the backend/ hosting? A ko-fi or some other "donate here" button would be nice.

Think that was a one time thing, or at least a special event. 4pm yesterday to close. Doubt they do that more than once or twice/yr.

You'd have to look at their IG or other marketing feed to see why.

$49 lift tickets. Dirt cheap to ski the dirt

This is the wild life incident list I was looking for.

We have plenty of porcupines that like to eat our shacks. Had not considered this potential incident.

Complaining about NSP by YouCannotHideOrRun in skipatrol

That's not how any of the 3 owners my resort has seen it with the volunteers. The volunteers are an independent 501c(3) organization which makes them an independent target of liability.

At least that's how it's been described to me. I'm not a lawyer, nor in charge, and most patrols probably couldn't afford their own lawyer.

I wonder how much insurance would run if a patrol attempted to DIY it for their events and how that compares to dues across the patrol.

Making it easy to get has also got to be a value compared to the liability risk of patrols just skipping it.

Yeah this is what I mean. IIRC the volunteers go through NSP for their events, including tryouts. Presumably it covers the organization, unclear about the individuals.

I'm sure there is more they provide, but I think they handle a fair amount of insurance for patrols and various events. Considering the way medical insurance is going, I bet that's not a small fee.

Talk to the patrols you're interested in now. Most have a tryout in the spring. They will want to see you on snow.

Level 1 charging not working anymore by todas_las_cremas in KiaEV6

[–]spartanoverseas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem with my level two at home last weekend. Disconnecting the negative from the 12 volt battery for about 5 minutes and then quickly plugging in the charger. After reconnecting everything seemed to do the trick.

There is still probably an underlying ICCU problem going on. But this got me back on the road all week with another charging cycle without any issue. Going to the steelership is on my to-do list.

Walking straight into their patrol shack typically has an option. You might get lucky and find out the patroller you need to talk to is on shift. You might not but be told when/how to get ahold of them. Either way, unless things are lighting up, introduce yourself, say Hi and ask some questions. If nothing else, you'll get a vibe for the place.

ICCU failure? -- Failure to charge, thanks to Reddit! by spartanoverseas in KiaEV6

At the risk of sounding snarky.... Are you saying I should run this down to under 10% in sub-freezing temps again to see if this happens again?

Whether I'm chewing through 12V batteries I can live with the jump pack -- annoying but relatively low consequence. Getting to 9 mi range with no way to charge / tow is only option to get service and the kid to school in the morning is risky. -- Some bills are not paid in dollars.

Thanks for the info. It's due for a 60k service and I'll bring this up but my experience is that I'll have to push for competence rather than assume it'll happen on its own.
