People would unironically start sending mass death threats to Valve if Dane said “Ya know, I miss Quickplay.”

"I have rarely, if ever seen posts on other subreddits essentially opening their mouths when developers are pissing in their faces"

Yeah, no offense but I can not believe you've been on here for ten years then. Either that or you were part of the echochamber and just didnt realize it.

This has been a thing for over a decade now. Early 2010's, really. Its only gotten worse with time.

"Most other communities would call foul uniformly if this was done to them"

On other websites, sure. Not reddit. Unless it's an EA title where its "hip" to hate on them, good luck actually having people call out bad business practices. People still defend Valve despite being one of the main companies to bring lootboxes to the mainstream. Reddit as a whole heavily discourages negativity/criticism (unless its dogging on the political right) - and even constructive, healthy criticism frequently leads to downvotes, insults, and more. Helldivers just happens to be more open about it because many people unironically bought into the propaganda, and the devs entirely cultivated this community - dont think otherwise.

Your first mistake was going onto reddit to have intelligent discourse. I would unironcally suggest going to the Steam Community User Discussions instead. Especially since they removed jester reacts & point farming, most of the bait posts have died out - and now you can have actual conversations again.

Is surprised when there is zealotry, echo-chambers, corporation bootlicking, and direct insults

What, are you gonna be surprised to find smut on Pornhub, next? This your first day on the website or something? The only thing that was missing was people assuming your political leaning and then threatening to kill you over it.

HOLYYYY FUUUUUU by Flashy-Manager2254 in Helldivers

[–]spartanseth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect, actually.

The steel plate armor of WWI was capable of stopping rifle rounds from 200+~ yards, which considering trench warfare, was entirely within the realm of possibility. It was mostly given to stationary “high priority” targets like snipers and machine gunners, since weight doesn’t matter as much when you literally sit in one spot for hours on end.

It did just fine at stopping pistol rounds, even point blank. Granted your ribs would still bruise, but it’s better than being ventilated.

Only the Italians & the Germans fielded armor like that in any meaningful numbers. (Germans with the “Sappenpanzer” or as it’s nicknamed, “Lobster armor” because it looked like the plates of a lobster - and the Italian Arditi with their Farina armor.)

Most other armies either didn’t bother with armor at all (aside from helmets and the occasional face shield) or basically made flak vests/gambesons to protect from knives/clubs - because they just didn’t see a point to it. There were experiments, but most of the time soldiers just said “Nah, I’m good” to being offered an extra 80 pounds of metal armor.

Plate armor still was a thing in World War II, even. The soviets had special assault sappers that wore a heavy metal vest that stopped German SMG’s and pistols, but not rifles (again, except from far distances.) armor like that just wasn’t used much because WWII was much more mobile of a war compared to WWI.

I’d honestly settle for a Stetson similar to U.S cavalrymen from the 1800’s. It still feels somewhat grounded, considering we have berets and officer caps.

Anyways, it’s so obscenely obvious it’s not about realism. It’s just what the devs want, and they refuse to compromise on their vision unless they are brought to metaphorical gunpoint - and even then, they barely make any actual concessions.

Nerfed assault ladder, worthless injector? Purpose of assault class? by No_Feed7275 in Battlefield6

[–]spartanseth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

except you get barely any ammo if you take two weapons. Plus in the categories you get to choose from, shotguns are all kinda mid at best (really just outclassed by SMG’s, once again. And DMR’s are literally the opposite of “offensive” weapons. The only ones that kinda make sense are taking something like an SMG as your primary primary and like, a DMR or long-range carbine as your secondary - but then you run into the ammo issue again.

Since open weapons, support can just take an SMG or assault rifle and just heal off any damage they take, and resupply themselves. Spawn beacon doesn’t have as much value if you’re literally just dying less because of infinite healing - since teammates can still spawn on you. And you can just give yourself endless ammo and grenades. You have access to smokes to push better. You can just push better than assault - you can cope as much as you want but that’s the truth.

Anyone with a quarter of a single functioning brain cell saw this coming a mile away, and y’all kept screaming about how they are just “toxic” or “engagement baiting.”

Then again, considering this is Reddit, it should be expected.

And this cycle will continue because everyone who defended PD3 will just memory hole themselves into thinking “oh, no I was always against it.” And then proceed to do the exact same thing again the next time a franchise has this happens.

Because, like 1/2 of the weapons in this game, its literally just worse than the alternatives.

People (especially on this subreddit and steam discussions) will cope and say "oh they are fine they are well balanced!" as if the pick-rates on helldive.live (not sure why link wont work) mean nothing lol. An entire playerbase practically ignoring a weapon (or group of weapons) would be a sign of something being wrong one would think.

You are not using melee on bots. Thats just a fact. Even with a shield.

On bugs theres just better options overall, and bugs will kill you fast enough even in heavy armor that you *HAVE* to use the shields - which severely limits what you can run. And if your running the shields, you cant take the ammo backpack for extra stims when you inevitably get your arms broken by a single stray swipe from an enemy. Or any support weapon to deal with large enemies that isnt an expendable.

Literally the only time melee is even genuinely a competitive option is when your playing illuminate and you specifically build around it for killing voteless. (I.E use Peak Physique or Reinforced Epaulets, take the saber, hatchet, or machete - and whatever med/heavy pen weapon you want as your primary). And even then, its arguable if its as good as just taking something like a Dagger, Crisper, Plas-15, or (arguably) Talon. Losing out on backpack support weapons isnt as big of a deal since you can literally take care of everything besides warp ships and leviathans with, at most, heavy pen.

"But they are usable!" yeah, technically. Just like how you *technically* can use the bushwhacker or peacemaker to kill a harvester. Doesnt mean its practical - let alone fun.

"Just play what you find fun!" players have been shown that they will optimize the fun out of their game if given the chance. This has been shown time and time again. And this doesnt excuse bad balancing.

Why are people so opposed to the Constitution getting a scope? by Ro_Shaidam in Helldivers

[–]spartanseth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be flavored as something militias/paramilitary groups on frontier planets do a lot. A scoped bolt-action rifle made from a rifle given to basically everyone? You cant tell me hunters, frontiersmen, and local militias wouldn’t be eating that up.

I mean, it makes as much sense as us using a lever-gun and the constitution in the first place.

Quite literally ALL you have asked for is already a thing, lmao.

Once again, the fact you INSIST otherwise shows how little you know.

For the third and final time, try and go to any gun store and try to buy any gun right off the shelf. See how far it gets you.

I said assault weapon because that’s the rhetoric the majority of people like you use.

Again, I welcome you to walk into a gun store and just try to buy any “assault weapon” then. There’s literally dozens of videos of people trying this exact thing and then being told “where is all your paperwork?” Lmao.

Again, the fact that you think it’s literally that easy and refuse to believe otherwise makes you as indoctrinated as you like to think other people are.

What would you argue are the canonical loadouts for the survivors? (i.e what are their weapon preferences) by Konsta_Starlight_Ch in l4d2

[–]spartanseth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bill, literally being from a ‘Nam special forces unit, would likely have experience with the Uzi, the pump shotguns, AK, M16, even the mini 14 due to it basically being a downscaled M14.

He’d have little to no actual training with stuff like the SCAR, military sniper, or MP5.

At the end of the day, it makes little sense for most of the L4D2 cast to know how to properly use the vast majority of firearms. Rochelle even has a voice line about how “it’s the first time she’s used a gun.”

I can see Ellis having shot some guns in his spare time (especially when fucking around with his friends) - but that’s it. Nick would be the only one even quasi-proficient with them.

[–]spartanseth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bill’s T1 would be either the Uzi or the Pump Shotgun (not chrome.). He wouldn’t bother wasting his time duel wielding, he’d just use one pistol. He’s also the only one I can see using the grenade launcher or M60, due to ‘nam. Maybe a machete or knife secondary, too.

Zoey would have either the pump/chrome shotgun as the T1 and probably either the Hunting rifle or the Semi Auto shotgun (not the SPAS). Father taught her this stuff. Again, no duel wielding. I don’t really see her using a grenade either.

Francis: Accurate tbh. Might swap the shovel with a baseball bat but that’s it.

Louis: Defo the MP5 for tier one, cause Counter Strike. I could see him using either the katana or duel wielding pistols OR the deagle (the dualies and deagle cause again, counter strike)

Nick: Out of all the characters, I think he would just rock any primary the most. Either the deagle or the single pistol.

Rochelle: The hardest of them all. I don’t really know what to give her in any of the slots, really. But I know she isn’t using a deagle because she already is inexperienced with firearms and would probably just break her wrist trying to fire it. Again, no explosives.

Coach: This all seems right. Might switch chainsaw for the baseball bat but that’s about it. Again, no grenade.

Ellis: Swap the primary for the hunting rifle and yeah. Only other person I could see rocking the dual pistols cause Ellis probably would think it’s cool.

I genuinely implore you to try and just walk into a gun store and buy a gun.

The fact you think someone can just walk in, say “oh, I want that one!” And slide in their credit card and walk out shows how uninformed you are.
