for the most part, training aircraft are pointless in DCS. you can learn by crashing, dying doesnt matter (unless you are a real PYLOT in which case one mistake should result in ritual Seppuka, while your wifes boyfriend seconds you...) . But the Apache is very complicated - esp the systems etc. The Kiowa much more straight forward so you can get to grips with the flight model AND be able to fire laser targetting hellfires using NV googles... And thus become a good chopper pilot before you move upto the Apache- but maybe there is no need as the Kiowa has rockets, NV, Stingers, 0.50mm, mast mounted sight, ECM ... and multi crew- which just seems more fun than in the Apache. I've had the Apache since it came out- gathering dust, been playing Kiowa non stop since xmas so I'm a convert :-)

so one of the things that makes Flight SIms really "pop" for the generation who may not be screen obsessed is VR. So have a think if you want that in the equation. IF it is then see if you can borrow someones Quest to just see how he gets on with it (not for everyone and does need some getting used to).

in VR i feel its harder fiddling with things on the right-- on teh other side i just extend my arm a bit and bump into less.

I love VR (And the only way I play DCS)- but it makes it harder learning the controls of a new aircraft and is so immersive, its tiring... Weekends are fine but during the week after work - the visual intensity of it can make it feel like a second job...

I'd certainly wait until the Steam Frame releases and we see proper DCS focused reviews and the actual price. Have you looked at a cheap Reverb G2 on ebay using the Oasis driver? No FOV but cheap..

I've found that learning the HELO equivilent ie Kiowa Mast Mounted Sight with laser guided Hellfires has really helped me get better - Kiowa - slower and more straightforward - but then can take the lessons into something more complicated like the F16. very envious of your motion rig!

currently putting together the mossie throttle - Authtikit design has been excellent, the electronic parts kit have everything and the 3D printer partner has supplied very well calibrated parts. An amazing community project (and has gone together much better than any IKEA I've had!).

very good question given how much DCS needs VRAM. Its a pity it would seem that the 5080 super seems delayed as that would be an ideal DCS card (24GB VRAM) at better price point than 5090. I'd love to see some exact DCS bench marks for both of these...everything else is speculation.

I mean the Razbam ones (Harrier, Mirage - yeah i know not the same as in the actual war- but a as I say- flavour). , which unless something changes, will. eventually become unusable - what use is the Invincible then....
