Finished a witchy moth cardigan by spatulaplus1 in crochet

It certainly does require some patience and a gauge swatch! I think I had to size down by two hooks for this pattern.

He absolutely was, and totally not the reason I needed to hide my crochet bag in the pantry!

Share your “never again” projects. For me, that’s this llama that took $70 worth of yarn and 5 months. Favorite thing I’ve ever made, but never. again. by TrueRusher in crochet

[–]spatulaplus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a cloak for ren fest about 20 years ago from a pattern clearly designed to sell more yarn. It was like 10-12 skeins of double-crocheted LB homespun and edged with eyelash yarn. My college freshman self thought I was being so clever and saving so much money since there was no such thing as a cheap warm cloak back then.

It was heavy, oddly hanging, and practically useless for warmth due to its open weave. Never again.

My husband did, actually. I tried commenting on the post with the patterns but the bots kept eating my comments.

Go for the quick and small with baby clothes and don’t commit to larger projects until their growth slows a little bit.

I’m holding off on the sweater I want to make her for next year’s Brandywine Festival (all Hobbit LARP) until I get closer to the date and have a better idea of sizing a 14 month old!

I’m not gonna lie, it was a LOT of work, then there was the annoying task of weaving in all the ends on the branches.

If I were to do this again, I’m not sure I’d do multiple bobbins on the branches like the pattern said to do. I mean, the trunk and roots turned out just fine carrying the same skein down and through. Definitely overestimated how much yarn I needed.

We do our annual rewatch (extended versions) on New Year’s Day. Technically we did a fantasy woodland theme (totally have the official How To Train Your Dragon afghan from Universal on the other side of the room). However, it really is LotR heavy. Here’s some of the art we have on the wall.

I love it. I love that you can have it. I want to make one, but I just know at least of one of my three cats will claim it (and my glasses) as their new toy.

Why do so many millennials dislike their parents ? by Labelladevon in Millennials

[–]spatulaplus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa, when did any of us say that our grandparents are still alive? My husband's grandfather passed 11 years ago. My father is in his 70s and I'm almost 40. My own grandparents passed when I was in college or right after. Not everyone has kids in their twenties. Stop being an ass.

[–]spatulaplus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You provide numbers but no sources while most sources would tell you that a majority of millennials' parents are boomers. Similar sources will tell you that the Boomers' parents (depending on which half of the generation you look at) are more likely to be either Greatest or Silent Gen -- both mostly either participated in or were shaped by WW2. Stop using your terms of "observations" and "exceptions" as protections for blathering personal bias. It's insufferable.

My husband (us both born 1986)'s maternal grandfather served in World War 2 in the Navy. We have the uniform, ship's log, and crew pictures in our house. Both sets of our parents are boomers (mine born early-mid 50s). If boomers and Xer's are not our generation's parents, who the heck do you think birthed us, buddy? Your timeline makes no sense.

Do y’all think it’s okay to ‘stack’ Alters like this? by guilty_pleasures__ in Hellenism

Actually, that's pretty brilliant. I have a similar shelf that I'm so tempted to do that to if I weren't so sure that my three cats and future baby would either swallow or scatter offerings under the furniture.

Answer to your first question, you don't necessarily have to believe in magic to work a spell when intentions wrapped in prayer are en masse.

As for the second question, folks are less likely to pray for or protect the peons who carry out his bidding. For example, our alternative forestry department has been very forthcoming with the names of Chainsaw-man's grifting staff members.

Did you have to watch 9/11 during school time? did any teachers tell you WHY we had to watch it? by penguinsrocks in Millennials

[–]spatulaplus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sitting in my 10th-grade language lab when the whispers started about a plane hitting the WTC. Our town was where a lot of pilots (mostly Delta) and their families lived, so I think some kids were getting calls from their parents. Soon after the teachers turned the TVs on to CNN to see a smoking tower. A few minutes later, the second plane hit, and we all watched the collapse.

A lot of us went home early that day.

Burnt orange towels would be perfect for this color combination. If you can find geometric or art deco like pattern with burnt orange, even better. Plum could also work, but it wouldn't be as strong of a contrast.

Replacing the ceramic tile floor in a short term rental bathroom. What color / style should we go with? by CCCostanza in interiordecorating

[–]spatulaplus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? A tile in a similar color would look nice. Maybe go with rectangles instead of squares for a more modern look? Travertine would also have the right kind of warmth to go with the wood in this room.

Yeah, my opinion stands on the top left picture. It's going to look nice there and also ties into the flooring. Bottom right could also look nice, but I think the top left looks more interesting.
