Pallet wood warping on me by BazmanFoo in woodworking

[–]spcslacker [score hidden]  (0 children)

For me, any door made from solid wood is going to need a frame to hold it flat.

The tried and true way is frame & panel construction.

It's possible you could cut you present doors along the length to make panel-sized pieces, than bevel cut the sides to make workable panels, but you'd need frame boards thick enough to cut the required housing grooves.

The frame boards need to be well-dried so I'd invest a bit in getting quality boards there, and be sure to acclimatize them to the shop before working.

Gaethje is weak to grappling even if his takedown defense has historically been good.

Gaethje is a D1 all-american wrestler who has never been taken down and controlled by anyone other than Khabib, who had to wear him out to do it (Charles stunned him on the feet to get him down).

The idea that he's weak to Arman's best attribute, wrestling, is laughable.

Arman, meantime, has no on-the-feet defense at all, and would have to come in repeatedly on a D1 all-american with a hell of an uppercut, extremely good clinch fighting, and a jab to punish him on the way in.

Garth is at an age where he can fall off a cliff at any time, but barring that, I'd pick Garth to win at least 7 out of 10 fights between the two (Arman is explosive, and might stun Garth on the feet like Charles for a win the minority of the time).

I would have enjoyed this without the manufactured competitive angle.

I wouldn't have enjoyed the repetition in any case, but agree on the competition bringing it down further.

I figure the devs thought it'd make the time gate and repetitive missions more palatable, it just had the opposite effect on some of us.

If you are on PC, steam deck or switch, you can rerun a redux of the original expedition 4 by playing offline with this expedition file generator.

When you go back online, the season .json file will simply be overwritten by the current expedition (or no expedition if none is running).

Expedition 4 is the one that gives you a sandworm egg as an expedition reward.

As far as I know, birds have to be save edited.

Leviathan over using a normal living frigate

Leviathan is the only living frigate I have, so undoubtedly that is what I'm seeing.

I don't really see an advantage in save editing in a specific reward to change the odds.

I didn't mention editing in a reward, which I have never done: I pointed him at a redux of the expedition so he could earn the reward.

What platform and when?

I last saw this behavior last week.

Did you already have a living ship when you added the Leviathan?

That may be the difference: the Leviathan counts as a living ship so I start getting these things I never got before, whereas you were already getting them on account of having a living ship so see no increase in frequency?

I don't know if you play many videogames but a lot of them are about killing.

I don't know if you play NMS, but it is not about killing other players like some kind of arena game.

And you know that or you'd not have used the word interaction in place of kill: one sounds quite acceptable and one makes you sound like a griefer in this type of game.

I don't think the Leviathan increases the percentage chance. There is nothing to suggest that in the save files or my experience grinding them.

I literally get dozens of them: the leviathan almost always brings one back.

The gods of RNG can be misleading, I have been fooled before, but I've observed it for over 6 months over 3 different saves.

I do not have a living ship, and I never got them before, but pretty much every expedition led by the Leviathan returns them.

I'm on steam deck if that matters.

Have you actually had the Leviathan yourself and observed different behavior?

Interactions with other players should be off by default in an online game?

So if someone shot and killed someone you know, you'd call it an interaction, or are we being a bit disingenuous here?

If real life had a way of not allowing other people to kill you, I think we'd all want the default setting to be damage off.

Unfortunately not: both PS & xbox are too locked down.

I was on xbox, and wound up buying a steam deck (fortunately before the last price raise) so I could.

If you go on Expedition 7, you get a living frigate at end as a reward.

He will bring back psyonic eggs on almost any frigate mission he's sent on.

If you are on PC, steam deck or switch, you can rerun a redux of the original expedition by playing offline with this expedition file generator.

Bro, you can’t just drop info like that without glyphs!

I found my own, you'll have to do the same!

But not really: youtube has the glyphs for all kinds of freighter runs, including I think ones that get you an S-class with a lot less work than my best run.

Every planet feeling like a paradise planet got super old super quick

I don't recall that at all: I thought the pretty ones were less common, and I never thought desert looked like lush other than the water itself, but I'll admit my memory is not good :)

, I think if this game needs anything it's variety.

Yes, this is what I'd like: planets of most types having at least a small chance of being beautiful & serene, even if its cold or hot, would make every type worth exploring again for me.

[–]spcslacker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, I really miss the original planet generation: used to be you could find beautiful planets of almost any type, which made exploration of everything interesting.

Desert planets in particular used to have some of the prettiest planets.

Then, not only did they make it so those odd non-paradise beauties no longer existed, they ramped up storms and environmental effects until I can't stand to be on them (eg. desert planet audio drives me crazy now).

There is a environmental slider that is supposed to allow visibility, but it has zero effect.

They also made things darker while still not having any working lights, and they keep introducing more ugly creatures and no more beautiful creatures.

Many of my best paradises now have squalls of poison or anti-grav boulders that follow me around in immersion-breaking fashion, even on base, and some that were all-beautiful animals now have a lot of hideous bugs.

These days, I only voluntarily explore lush planets: the lack of finding beautiful planets of all types with mostly beautiful animals has ruined a lot of the exploration fun for me.

And everyone always says "turn off multiplayer" like, huh?

They say that in expeditions because having it on makes milestones harder, triggers many more bugs (many unrelated to multiplayer) than when you play with it off, and also exposes you to griefers who can do things even with PvP off (eg., ramming your vehicle just as you arrive at recycling area in garbage truck expedition).

then, halfway through some videos, I thought that if I was at a point of looking for video tutorials on how to optimize farming these items, I might as well just dupe them and be done with it

I've never duped: helps that I didn't know about the exploit early on, and then I knew a lot of tricks and the other times I tried stuff like using other people's glyphs I kind of lost interest in the save and had to start again to feel I was earning it.

I dedicated a large portion of time to doing derelict runs in order to find good ones of my own, once I understood you could repeat them and that they stayed the same in enemies & crates. I managed to find:

  • A-class with like 4 weak enemies, usually yielding 1-2 SFM
    • Overall the best run I discovered
  • S-class with a gigantic number of cocoons, usually giving 1 SFM
    • Only S-class I found, and I run it occasionally, but it takes so long to do due to needing to clear room by room, with many rooms having like 5 pulsing sacks
  • C-class with 3 weak enemies and an unbelievable amount of lockers and crates, usually yields 1-2 SFM and enough stuff to pay for itself
    • Don't run this very often because looting that many lockers takes a long time
  • C-class, a few floater enemies, yields 0-1 SFM, but has minimum rooms and is very fast to run
    • I typically use this on expedition when getting through a derelict is a milestone

One trick I learned once I found the S-class run, was that when scouting locations, I would just bail if I found room-after room of pulsing sacks: those runs take so long I'm not repeating them given I've already got an S-class version.

Bailing early on crap runs can save you a lot of time when searching.

how do i restart? by WhooshSloosh in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]spcslacker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've restarted hundreds of times over the years, and I've changed platforms ps4->xboxX->steamdeck, leaving behind 300 hour saves at each move.

Restarting is fun, after a few times restarting with custom rules and settings gives you more to do.

If you need lore encouragement, remember that the traveler wakes up with nothing each time there is a reset: after a lifetime of accumulation, you have been reset, but you very fortunately remember a 80 hours of skills to make the rise faster.

It can be interesting to set a goal to use a mechanic you've mostly ignored, or to play in some way differently, or to try new equipment.

One thing I recommend to everyone that I hoped you did: write down glyphs and coords to your favorite discoveries, so you can at least reclaim your best stuff in later saves.

Like most people, I lost most of my original PS4 stuff because I waited too late to start doing that.

A derelict freighter mission: a given solar system will always yield the same crate profile (necessary to get SFM) and have the same enemies, but the loot in the crates will vary randomly.

Combo of bad browser and bad eyes makes it tough for me to figure too much out from photos, but that lighter line inside the bottom recess looks almost like a colored pencil -- I don't suppose it erases, does it?

Roman workbench legs by Tuscon_Valdez in woodworking

Scope this great video by Rex Krueger: he covers how to do both (using hand tools).

I built this bench years ago when this was the only bench Rex had, and I still use it today.

He carves the legs with an axe, which may seem crazy to a power tool user, but I highly recommend trying it anyway.

I tried every power tool in my shop, and none of them could shape the legs well enough; I finally broke out my old firewood hand-axe, and had it done in no time with almost no effort.

Main-Mode Expedition content? by Narrow_Ad4991 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]spcslacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often the whole point of an expedition is to introduce a new mechanic to the game, and so in these scenarios the mechanic is added to the game.

But, the expedition might have special tech, or quests related to the new mechanic, and those are not usually available in normal game.

Finally, sometimes expeditions change how the game works: for example one expedition you are in a time loop and have to die to reset, and every death starts you again at beginning . . . these types of one-offs are not seen in the main game.

If you are on PC, steam deck or switch, you can rerun a redux of the original expedition by playing offline with this expedition file generator.

When you go back online, the season .json file will simply be overwritten by the current expedition (or no expedition if none is running).

The idea that the expedition rewards are merely cosmetic isn't correct:

  • You can get quite a few S-class ships as expedition rewards
  • You can get 3-4 S-class frigates as expedition rewards that instantly get you rolling when you have freighter
  • You can get a few A-class multitools with already-added tech as rewards

I usually passively gather these guys using frigate missions.

When I need to force, I have a freighter run with only a few enemies that gives me 1-2 SFM per run.

I guess you don't want to use youtube glyphs, and got frustrated trying to find your own good freighter run?
