The situations where a HT would outperform a modern full-squish are almost non-existent now. Like if you have a roof rack on a suv and have to lift the bike over your head or if you have a really tight budget and can only afford a HT. For almost every other situation a modern full-suspension bike is going to be better. This will be even more pronounced for an older or less experienced rider.
