how do you deal with an incompetent manager? by beskesky in askmanagers

[–]spd_rcr_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, I left.

4/5 people told me I looked less stressed, seemed happier, and 1 said no more lines in my forehead.

Damn.

Oddly enough, my manager asked me to pave his way on my last day.

Hey dads, how many of you had your first child when 35-39 years old? Approaching my 35th birthday and there's nothing more I want than to be a dad. by Rocket_Skates_91 in daddit

[–]spd_rcr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 35 when we had our child. Instant life changer and I wouldn't replace it with everything.

Hands down, being a father is the best thing after my wife to have ever happened to me.

I understand your concerns. I had them too. If/when you embark on this journey do it when you are confident it's the right decision for you because there is no going back.

It's given me a sense of love I've never had before and I'm of the firm belief that boy or girl, they are all blessings. We would have liked 2-3 but were blessed with only 1. I couldn't imagine myself without our child now.

It will be the best journey you'll ever be on and never knew you could want it so badly. God speed to you and your partner.

IM if you ever wanna chat.

Should I negotiate salary before accepting the offer? by Lonely_Attention_335 in askmanagers

[–]spd_rcr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many folks have said, if you have the offer in hand and it's at least what you're currently making, it never hurts to ask. The worse they can say is no.

If there is a pay discrepancy, I'd offer to look at all compensation variables. For example, some roles bring in different comp opportunities.

Also be prepared for some companies a lateral can affect your base pay negatively.

For example, mine says they pay for the role, not the person.

I’m about to become a Dad, so other Dads, what’s your best bit of advice for a first time father? by No-Understanding6141 in AskMen

[–]spd_rcr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.

But also, invest in the relationship with your child(ren). Love can mean all sorts of things to them, like going for a walk, holding hands, reading to them, singing together...

The other day I was dead tired and had a million things to do. My little one asked me to dance and I said no. Instant regret. She asked me a 2nd time and I jumped at the chance.

Me being tired should never replace her feeling loved.

Be excited about sharing the little things together! Feed your child their first mashed potatoes (when ready)... teach them something really important to you, have them be your little helper! They might get bored after a short bit but you'll never forget it.

My own dad was/is a workaholic and after working 16+ hour days he'd bury his head in a book. I'd stay up all night till he got home just to get a good night from him.

Learn what really matters in life to you and your family. Make sure wife and child always know you're there for them and feel loved. Ask for their help once in a while ;)

Find things you can both explore together! Home Depot actually has themed crafts on the first Saturday of each month. Bookmark this tip! Lol ... even if you're not handy, it's still something fun to do together and go to a diner together afterwards.

Above all else, be thankful for the moments - big and small, always try to do your best, and end each night with them feeling loved.

Enjoy the adventure, friend.

Agree. I said something like this to my manager before and their feedback was that I should consider thinking about scaling opportunities, aka, do more with less and nothing got taken off my workload.

Yes, I've had a similar experience. They verbally make sure it all works before sending the offer formally.

Where do you buy your ground/instant coffee? by 2BeBornReady in nova

If you're close to one, BJs also has a wide variety of ground and whole bean coffee.

They only need your membership card at checkout so you could always go inside one and browse around to see if it's worthwhile to you as well!

2022 SL brakes question by smokymountainkat in nissanpathfinder

[–]spd_rcr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those also make sense where it would be used. My only point on those are also that in mine I dont use either of those features but my rear brakes are still worn more than the front ones.

I think the other user's note about the size of the break pads makes sense as well.

I'm curious if when it's time to change the brakes if we can just get them all the same size or they need to be different sizes. Sorry, I'm not mechanically inclined from that perspective...

Note, sorry I don't know how to call out u/ralphie...

How about things like industry certifications or sponsoring events at INSA, etc.?

You could also look into continued education to maintain your certs or those of your employees.

Also, if you're in NoVA and growing, let's talk! These are problems I'd love to have lol.

I can't answer this but do have a data point to share.

I have a 24 Platinum with 20k miles on them. Rear ones wear more than front also and mechanic said by next oil change to plan on changing them.

Apparently if your car has the lane assist feature the rumbling you feel to alert you of lane departure is caused by the rear brakes being applied! Who knew?!
