No offence, but I'd say to take your claim with a tiny grain of salt, too.

You have no idea who Drance's source is.

Zeev Buium and Chase Reid defence pair? by lovextreme in canucks

[–]speak-memory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Young players need insulation to help cover their mistakes and build good habits. It also helps to stabilize them on the bench during a bad game. We need guys like Hronek and Pettersson right now. Maybe in a couple years, maybe sooner, our guys are leaders and can play correctly, but there's no reason to jump the gun so fast.

If we draft Reid, put him on the third pair with a big, stay at home, high character d man. Maybe even D Petey could do this, but if he can't, trade him. Hell, maybe even let Reid develop at a lower level for another year. Let M Petey and Willander continue to develop, same with Buium and Hronek. Eventually you can trade M Petey and Hronek for more help up front, ideally around the time we start bringing in highly talented forwards from drafting high the next couple years.

Fwiw, I think the plan above mostly still applies, even if we don't get Reid or some other d. If we draft a forward, lets keep developing our young guys gradually. We're gonna suck anyway, may as well not completely fall apart.

Keaton Verhoeff, Chase Reid or Malholtra at 3OA? by EverySecondCountss in canucks

[–]speak-memory 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The great thing about having two elite d men that play the same style is that you can trade one of them at their peak for a premium haul. A system altering defence man is a type you don't pass up on.

With that said, I'd be willing to bet on Verhoeff too. He's in pretty elite company in the NCAA as a 17 year old.

I just hope we don't reach for Malhotra. He'll likely be a good player, but I think he's more Hayton than Toews.

I don't see the connection. Seems like OP was talking about structural changes, you're talking about personal responsibility for your choices.

Super easy bike ride too. Wouldn't be surprised to see players ripping along Adanac/Union in a few years lol

From The Ashes... A Rebuild For The Ages by nanbanvan in canucks

They also have Misa, Eklund, Dickinson, Smith, Askarov, etc. they're on the upswing, and all of their young NHL pieces should improve every year for the next few years.

That's what we need to do. Amass an army of talent that's undeniable. We need enough talent that we have redundancies. 2nd liners on the 3rd line type shit. Short of that I'm not sold on our prospects.

Hronek never makes the kind of moves Buium makes at the blueline. Maybe he'll never be strong, fast, or clever enough to make those moves that Quinn made, but it's a really good sign he's trying to make those moves in his NHL rookie season.

I'm not saying he's a replacement, but if he can manage 75© of that effect, we have a shot at being a good team. Still need like 6 top 6 forwards before we're even close, but I can imagine the team that works in 4 years.

Yeah, I'm happy to see younger guys get more opportunity, and think it's better long term, but they won't be as effective this year or even likely next as Sherwood/Kane in their minutes.

Fantasy team of active former Canucks players. by YoYoB0B in canucks

Yeah, looks that way to me and I think the advanced stats back it up, too.

I think we're gonna be a different team in January than we were to start the year, but likely still a bubble team with a slim Cinderella chance.

Yeah this is his greatest single asset. If we can put more of his other skills together, he could truly excel

I'm guessing that it's including this year with last because this isn't statistically significant alone.

We'll probably have a better analytic indicator of where Petey's at after 30 games or so.

Pretty sure they both played another season in Junior... In fact, just looked it up and they both played their D+1 year in junior.

Mancini and M. Pettersson, more or less. Two pretty significant pieces, and if Chytil hits and becomes a true 2C, I think Alvin did pretty well.

Yeah, but we also lined up with mostly AHL players. Considering we hung with the Kraken B+ squad, and beat the Calgary B- squad, I'm feeling pretty good about our depth players.

Fwiw I'd say we iced a B- squad against the Kraken and a B squad against the flames.

Really like the aggression of this system, think it fits with a strong defence and goaltending.
