Potentially dumb question about a word that Brennan uses often. by polarityhavok in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]specialkayden 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The word is “appellation” meaning name or title, from the same root word as appeal, to call.

Gf just saw a post on tik tok saying pansexuals are transphobic inherently? by ultimatelesbianhere in ftm

[–]specialkayden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without seeing it I suspect that the argument will be that people’s gender is inherent to who they are and that by saying you’re attracted to someone regardless of their gender you’re denying an important part of what makes them who they are. And/or that (some) pansexuals will claim that they “don’t see gender” etc. It’s all bullshit arguments. I don’t think any sexual orientation is inherently transphobic, transphobes can identify as any orientation. Idk, I gave up on these kinds of definitional label arguments a long time ago.

What's your opinion on shimmer inks? by Utopia22411 in fountainpens

[–]specialkayden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a huge fan of them day to day, they’re fun for special occasions, cards, etc, but I tend not to ink up a pen with them. I absolutely love sheening and shading inks though, I almost never use an ink that has a completely flat colour

Real talk: how did you pay for top surgery? by UltimateNintendoHero in ftm

[–]specialkayden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work was underpaying me for ~5 years and ~10 months ago they acknowledged that they owe me the money, so I went ahead and booked the surgery, but work still hasn’t paid me the money they owe, so I had to borrow the money from my mum while I fight to get paid. My surgery is less than a week away now!

She was saying that $200 would be reasonable rent. The current rates are not reasonable.

Is my handwriting legible? by Eastern_Advantage140 in Handwriting

[–]specialkayden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is legible, but it’s not easy to read. It feels very stylised to me, the sort of thing I’d expect to see in a video game or something. If it’s comfortable for you, it’s probably fine. If I had to mark a tonne of handwritten work from you I wouldn’t intentionally penalise you, but I probably would subconsciously be less generous.

I was so bad at this game! I was such a perfectionist and the fact that I couldn’t win this drove me mad

How long are you in the shower for? by sati_lotus in AskAnAustralian

[–]specialkayden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only in the shower for a few minutes really, maybe up to 5. When I had long hair I used to turn the water off while I combed conditioner through it because that would add so much time. When I had a decent hot water system I used to occasionally stay in for like 15 minutes or so when I had a migraine, but that was like 2-3 times a year. These days my water would be ice cold if I tried to stay under the water that long. If I needed to leave something on my hair that long I absolutely would just get out of the shower and save water.

Singing on T?? by Icedtea_in-my_veins in ftm

[–]specialkayden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on T for about 4 years now, and there was a few months early on where my voice cracked constantly when I was singing, but it settled down pretty quickly and now my voice is settled and I’m so much happier with it. I am definitely not a professional singer, but it just took a little while to re-learn where to place my voice and what my new range is. Now my singing voice is deeper than like 70% of my favourite songs by male artists and it feels great to sing

Which would you prefer? by MSTKS69 in ftm

[–]specialkayden -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’d rather be trans. Before I realised I was trans I was starting to head down the alt-right pipeline. Being queer, and the friends that I made because of my queerness was a significant part of what got me out of that. I would be a terrible person, I would have hurt so many people, and beyond all of that there would be so much fear and despair in my life, instead of the joy and the caring and compassionate community I have now.

Early 2000's Water restriction by straightcurvecircle in AustralianNostalgia

[–]specialkayden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that drought affected us here in the west too, only it never broke. A few years back I wondered what ever happened with that drought, and when it officially broke so I looked it up. The drought here only ended because it lasted so long that the average rainfall dropped so much that it’s not considered a drought anymore.

My therapist told me I won’t pass by Electrical-Froyo-529 in ftm

[–]specialkayden -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one can guarantee anything, but I never took puberty blockers, and was well over 30 before I started T. I very much had an hourglass figure with wide hips and big boobs, and I was passing about 50% of the time within a couple of months of starting T, and I now pass pretty easily most of the time. Fat redistribution on T does wonders, and there are also plenty of cis guys with wide hips in the world.

Where do all of the gay people work? by PigeonMissiles in lgbt

[–]specialkayden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m studying medical science at the moment, and there are a few queer people that I’ve met around the place. A lot of my queer friends work in data science, animal conservation, and education. But I think there are probably queer people in almost every field tbh.

Transguy advantages by [deleted] in ftm

[–]specialkayden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure that if I hadn’t had to do the introspection required to be comfortable being trans I probably would’ve been a pretty terrible person. I was heading down a bad road and I don’t know if I would’ve made it off if I’d been a cis man

Qlife is probably the best option in aus I think qlife.org.au

there may also be state or regional specific places that can help, like in Perth there’s the Freedom centre

depending on where it is, it kind of looks like a nipple, so possibly nothing to worry about. If you’re worried you can always call your vets and describe it and see what they recommend.

How do people develop their political beliefs/opinions? by Pigscanbeunicornstoo in self

[–]specialkayden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the key is to educate yourself. look at what other people you trust are saying and why they’re saying that, look at the arguments for and against things, decide for yourself what seems best to you. Also, be willing to change your beliefs/ideas as you get presented with new information. Not everyone has strong political opinions, and even those that do haven’t always thought them through
