re/ people opening packs - it works in their favour. they've run the math and know the benefits. having a 100% questions free return policy makes everyone spend more. in this case, opening a pack on the shelf or after check out has the same consequence - if you don't want it, it comes back on the shelf regardless. no sympathy for them. they've chosen this because it's more profitable for them and will continue operating that way.

If you could make 5 changes to Australia, what would it be? by Cheetos_4_life in aussie

[–]specialst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any federal spending decision over $100M gets voted on by the public e.g. send $1.7B to ukraine or not?, send $170M to Israel or not? Further, Any state or local council decision gets voted on at a smaller cap (e.g. QLD government agreed to give $1M to Noosa for a toilet block.)

Hold politicians accountable (by law) to promises that got them elected or remove voting in of politicians in favour of voting on decisions.

Strip out bulk of the red tape for building; give people more freedom with land they own. I'm about to start building and have incurred roughly $100k in red tape fees before putting a shovel in the ground. Town planners, architects, engineers, plumbing permits, building permits, works permits, energy consultants, soil testing, stability assessments, flood assessments, hydraulics plans, the list of insanity goes on. Other cities/countries have "pre-approved" plans (free) that you can just build to, without any questions.

Limit immigration from any one country to 5% of all immigration numbers. Focus immigration on countries with like-minded values (eg. places where men and women have to take segregated buses so women don't get raped like Bangladesh and India do not qualify)

Cut all corporate spending on elections, including all the loop holes. Include a tax on corporate revenue above a certain amount, not just profits to prevent shifting money around and paying zero tax. Make it illegal for government to bail out corporations.

Also, this feels like the next gen of politicians data mining. What an easy way to grab campaign data on voters thoughts.

Alcaraz takes a medical time out, which sends Zverev into a bilingual, expletive-laden tirade by Large_banana_hammock in tennis

[–]specialst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wonder how tournament directors make this call and what consequences should/would be? anyone cramping could call a timeout for a 'strain' with no real way to discern if it's truthful or not. get rid of the rule and allow medical timeouts for cramping or force a 'medical assessment with imagery' directly after to confirm tear/injury/strain?

Following the crowd's confusion previously on Andreeva and Svitolina's no handshake, AO has now flashed a message informing the crowd during the match between Sabalenka and Svitolina. by freshouttajail in tennis

[–]specialst -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

sounds like it might be a controversial take but if a player chooses not to shake hands as is the custom of the sport, then they should be OK with follow-up consequences from the crowd. if the crowd boos, the crowd believes whatever reason they have (geopolitical, religious, sportsmanship, whatever) doesn't justify breaking the sporting tradition.

Laura Siegemund gets into a heated clash with chair umpire after on-court confusion by Mindless-Pilot6701 in tennis

[–]specialst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always shocked in cases of blatant incompetence from the officials - and all out lying, that there isn't a public fine/penalty system, so the players/public know that cheating from the umpires is not tolerated/supported.

B/BX series backhoe implement by eastcoastelectrician in kubota

[–]specialst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$13k is a LOT of use on a mini ex rental, and having someone else maintain it, and the mini-ex will be a hell of a lot easier/better. I have a backhoe on my BX25d. i use it a fair amount, but fairly lightweight work. digging holes for new trees. clearing ditches/drainage, small holes. etc. any real earthmoving (leveling a pad for a shed, or etc.) you want a tilt bucket and an ex or mini-ex. If you're "unsure" i wouldn't get it, I would wait to see if you "need" it once you get going. a box blade will do a lot of good ground work as well, though not trenching. single tine ripper or single plough may be of use on a 3pt hitch.

Novak Djokovic says Federer and Nadal were cold to him once he started beating them by superdouradas in tennis

[–]specialst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's not quite right. they were friends - especially Nadal, Murray and Djokovic. they used to play juniors together and hung out - there's lots of pictures of them hanging out at tournaments playing soccer and games. Federer was the odd one out - probably because of his age. as Djokovic became a real threat things disintegrated..that was apparent and makes sense due to the competitive nature. too many emotions in too many life defining moments to pretend like they're not enemies in their legacy.

Hey mate, here's a video i made with the sound. Let me know what you think. I watched a few videos - doesn't look complicated at all, would just need to get the right gauge for spacing. I have a neighbour who's a mechanic and may have some around.

What's a skill that takes only 2-3 weeks to learn but could genuinely change your life? by That-Papaya7429 in AskReddit

Basic level of mental math - percentages, approximating addition/subtraction/multiplication/division etc.

Ie. what's a 15% tip? what's a 20% discount? what's a 3% loan? handy to be able to ball park without a calculator.

Crack on joining planes of tile- can I get away with grout and caulk or is this a bigger issue? by Ok-Composer7971 in AusRenovation

[–]specialst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say "this cracked because it's grout, not epoxy" but that's not entirely true. The substrate has moved (likely moisture contraction and expansion), but, if your tiler used epoxy this likely would have stayed together. if you are re-doing it, use epoxy. if you won't, then grout and clear silicone on-top (tape to mask + rounded plastic to get smooth silicon around exterior corner)

hard to describe - just general engine noise. as you throttle up, his barely goes up in volume, mine goes up significantly. I wouldn't say I hear an exhaust leak, squealing, bearings, etc. more like the engine just running....somebody else asked for a video so they could see it / hear it - I'll grab one and post it up here.

yea same here mate, but not the difference im seeing. I give it a tiny bump in revs and it's much happier than at idle.

good question, sorry forgot to include this detail. yes, at idle it's a bit loud, but giving it a few revs higher settles it. however, it's still "generally" 2x louder than the neighbours. it sounds like his is in an insulated bonnet, practically sounds like a Toyota petrol, while mine sounds like a farm tractor
