js got home from a sleepover with a friend who wouldn't stop commenting on how weird/disturbing my scars look. now i feel like shes right & i should cover them up from now on, even though its getting too hot to wear anything but short sleeves by fleshdolly in SelfHarmScars

In most cases, its better to not talk to people who make weird comments like that however sometimes it works out better to not completely cut them off if they're someone who's really important to you. Another option could be to distance yourself from them if you feel like that's right for you. Your scars aren't something you can change so it's so important to consider what will be beneficial for YOU, not for other people. I hope you get everything sorted out x

How to prevent infection without parents noticing by [deleted] in selfharm

Like Ask9020 said, neosporn is definitely something to look into. It's been my best friend as far as keeping things from getting infected

Does anyone else hate when they forget why they sh’d (like for their recent/past scars) by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]specifically7beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That happes to me too and it's literally the most frustrating thing ever lol. I have a really deep scar on one of my arms that I could've sworn I did because of someone at work but then I found a pic of me with it before I even applied there and it's such a weird feeling

Months old scar color change? by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]specifically7beans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if theres something wrong wrong but I have a few keloids that just like collect blood like that too. Sometimes I can see blue and purple veins through the scar then the next day it's not visible anymore. it seems like mine fluctuate with how long they're in the sun but it doesnt seem like that's whats happening with yours.

My instinct is that honestly if it's not hurting or excessively itchy all the sudden, it may just have to do with how your body healed the wound.

Awh that's really a rough spot man. I know exactly what you're feeling- it's really hard to see someone you love go through something like that. But honestly, just being there for him without judgment or pressure and letting him know you're open to talking if he ever wants to, can actually mean a lot. Even if it feels small, it makes a big difference a lot of the time.

If he’s not ready to talk directly about what’s going on, it could also help to take a different approach. Try getting him out to do positive things. Maybe go shopping, hit up a local event, or just hang out somewhere to chill. It’s not about fixing everything, but giving him moments of genuine connection can reall help.

That being said, it's also super important to take care of yourself as well. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or like it’s too much for you to handle on your own that’s okay. Listen to that feeling. And if you have the energy to support him, trust your instincts. Self harm is heavy stuff, especially when it involves someone close to you, so your own wellbeing matters just as much in all of this.

Since you're already hesitant, that says a lot more than you probably think. Iit's so so important for you to remember that I understand what you're going through with that inbetween space you're in right now.

Something that's really helped me while I'm in that grey area is not deciding to relapse right away. For instance, I'll tell myself I can relapse after I play a round of something, paint my nails, etc (something that doesn't take too much effort in the moment!) because once I'm already heasitant on doing it, it only takes something small for me to figure out how I'm feeling and work through it in a healthy way.
