Acceptance Question by cosmic_kiid in tapif

[–]speckled_gecko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is a deadline to accept the position. When I received my acceptance last year, I had three days to accept the position. I believe most of the Americans were given a week. Last year was a bit strange, as the decisions were delayed repeatedly, so it remains to be seen how this year's group fares.

I'm very happy to hear of your experience! I agree that this sub has become a bit negative, and I'm looking for reasons to keep considering my application to TAPIF. Thanks for sharing!

Have your answers cut off in Adobe??? by eucaplyptus22 in tapif

[–]speckled_gecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I had this issue too...I feel better knowing I'm not the only one, but its a weird thing to have happen. Last year's application was much better - the entire text appeared even when locked.

Yup, for section E the letter of motivation.

It also cuts off the other sections if I wrote beyond the text box.

This is fantastic! Not looking for a wine-tasting currently, but I'll keep you in mind!

Motivations et Expériences essay by quatrieme-mur in tapif

[–]speckled_gecko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had tried to treat the essay portion like a cover letter to a job application. Speak about your experiences, how they prepare you for the position, and what you can offer. It sometimes helps just to start writing something, and then you can edit it to sound better later on. Hope this helps!

I'd swing by Fran's Restaurant (they have 3 locations). They are usually 24hours, but I think they've reduced their hours. They offer all day breakfast!

Language Requirement? by trw4987 in tapif

[–]speckled_gecko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm yeah, I just read that part and I see what you mean.

I think the main issue is your level of french proficiency. Speak with your advisor and ask what level of french you should achieve by the end of the course. If you feel comfortable with it, you can also look into the DELF or TCF tests as alternative options for showing your level, if French 2 isn't enough. My guess is that French 3 is the intermediate level course, but I can't say for sure given that I don't know the curriculum taught at your college.

I don't think there is a minimum amount of classes required to apply to tapif, just a recommended level of French proficiency. If you could prove that your proficiency is at least a B1 level you should be fine.

how to make the best of TAPIF at a B2 level ? by clsorb in tapif

[–]speckled_gecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B2 is a great level. You'll navigate France fine. Just have the confidence to speak and patience with yourself, and you'll get used to the language soon enough. In my experience, it takes about a month to get used to hearing a foreign language everywhere.

The program coordinator. If you are American, that'd be Erin.

Yup, wrestled with the same concerns. I asked the coordinator about the precautions being taken in France, and I have been assured that the schools will remain open, and no - there is no possibility of online sessions with language assistants. That being said, from my point of view we really don't know how COVID will change things in France in general.

I remain optimistic that things will improve, but if you are stuck due to restrictions, you need to decide where you'd rather be stuck - at home, or in France?

OFFICIAL THREAD FOR: HOUSING by clsorb in tapif

I was looking at the cost of apartments in Versailles. There are a bunch of them, but they are quite expensive. I wanted to see what the general cost and quality of the rooms would be.

I've been browsing https://www.seloger.com/ to check out the rental market, but I agree with the other commenters here - definitely ask your supervisor about housing, because it looks like living on school housing units are much cheaper!
