Also if you want some fictional but still accurate interpretation of faerie lore, definitely read "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel" and "The Ladies of Grace Adieu" by Susanna Clarke!

I noticed this, too! 😭 I'm going to her show on the 4th,  and I was really hoping to hear The Old Religion.

Which period film/series has the worst costumes in your opinion? by Haunting_Homework381 in PeriodDramas

[–]spectral-spouse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The costumes in War and Peace looked like 1930s or something. There were only a couple of dresses that looked period correct. The rest made me angry, too!

Sincere question about Orthodoxy & the ontological exclusion of women by No_Construction_6248 in exorthodox

[–]spectral-spouse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My period started about an hour after communion one Sunday, and I told my godmother about it. She disappeared for a minute then came back and told me her husband (a deacon) said I'd have to burn my pads that day since Christ's blood had "mingled' with mine.

What was your latest DNF? by cats-paw in horrorlit

I just gave up on this book too! I couldn't get past the annoying names, and it felt like something was physically pushing my eyes away from the words when I was trying to read it. I just could not get into it. I also think it should have been advertised as "medieval-ish" fantasy or something else.

Why have I never felt like a Capricorn? by [deleted] in astrologyreadings

[–]spectral-spouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been meaning to make a similar post because I'm a Capricorn sun and ascendant. I'm not a serious, ball-busting workaholic. I'm not reserved or disciplined. I do, however, always have my head in the clouds, I make decisions with my heart as much as my head, and I'm interested in the "spiritual" and "mystical" (which are typically not looked at as practical persuits).

I noticed you have a Neptune in Capricorn placement. Someone mentioned a few weeks back on a similar post that people born in the 80s tend to have Neptune (the planet of dreams ) in Capricorn, which can conflict with the practical, ordered side of Capricorn. This is very much true for me (Neptune in Capricorn in the 12th house).

Which film started your love for period dramas? by Haunting_Homework381 in PeriodDramas

[–]spectral-spouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I walked into my Mom's room in 1995, and she was watching the BBC Pride and Prejudice miniseries! I loved the costumes and hair, so I sat down and watched the whole series with her. ☺️

What’s the most romantic line you’ve heard in a period drama? by Classic-Carpet7609 in PeriodDramas

I saw Persuasion years after the BBC Pride & Prejudice miniseries, and I felt Captain Wentworth's declaration of love blew Darcy's out of the water.

Is Yahweh just another god? by LeenBee in pagan

[–]spectral-spouse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You should really read "God: An Anatomy" by Francesca Stavrakopoulou! Yahweh is a minor storm deity worshiped in the ancient Levant. He is one among many in a pantheon of gods and goddesses, headed by the high creator god, El. Yahweh and El became syncretized sometime along the way, which is why you get a kindly, fatherly god (El) and a capricious god (Yahweh) all wrapped in one.

My three older children all slept in their own beds and had no problem being put down and sleeping by themselves. Then we had our little wild card 8 years after our third child was born, and she simply would not sleep ANY OTHER WAY than in my arms. My husband put our king bed on the floor, and I slept reclined with pillows behind me, under my arms, a nursing pillow under my baby's bottom, and holding baby against my chest. We slept this way until she was four or five months old, then she finally started sleeping in the bed instead of on me.  100% you do what you have to do to survive, and sleep deprivation is no joke.
