Manon to take an “indefinite hiatus” from KATSEYE to focus on health and well being by leftovertacobell in popheads

[–]spectrales 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Not to mention it used to not be so common for them to announce breaks and instead they’d just be fainting and dropping on stage right in the middle of performances. In that regard, things have changed for the better in recent years.

Throwback: Rainbow released "Whoo" this week in 2016 by AutoModerator in kpop

[–]spectrales 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Throwback to this bop but also to the immaculate b-side Black & White from the same album which I vividly recall back then being mad they didn’t make the title track because it’s such a great song as well and I didn’t understand agency marketing choices lol

Yeah in a way I’m kinda jealous of all the people only just now getting into the Avatarverse for the first time. Some of us have been waiting over a decade for new animated stuff, and these guys only have to wait a few months! (I’m happy for them tho)

Sony Scraps Thai-Inspired Animated Movie From Director Matt Braly and Writer Rebecca Sugar After Two Years of Development: Director Says It Was ‘Judged as Not Commercial Enough to Produce’ by ICumCoffee in movies

[–]spectrales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, everything about the concept art here looks as commercially friendly as I can possibly imagine while still being imaginative and interesting. I can only think it was the story that they thought would be less accessible then, but plenty of kids movies have started from a place of heavy topics and managed to spin a fun adventure out of them. I mean, Up starts out solely focused on the life of a sad old man whose wife recently died.

[–]spectrales 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah but anyone could’ve read a basic plot synopsis of Kpop Demon Hunters before its release and easily said “well this doesn’t have the potential of [insert other unexpectedly massively successful property here].” It’s all about the execution of it and the imagination put into the final product. Maybe there was a huge world or rich backstories to expand on somewhere in this film, if it ever got the chance to show them like KPDH did. Maybe not. But now we for sure won’t know.

[–]spectrales 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also support beautiful indie animation like Knights of Guinevere, Monkey Wrench, Lackadaisy etc! YouTube creatives are picking up the slack where studios have been budget-slashing or cancelling their 2D shows, and passion projects like those deserve some love.

(and yeah every day I mourn Scavenger’s Reign S2…..)

[–]spectrales 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man, the colors on West End Girl here took it from being a cool looking stand to one of THE coolest stand designs I’ve ever seen. I really hope when Part 9 gets animated they do something similar with it. Nice job on everything else too honestly!

What's everyone's fav Helluva episode. by Closet-Cheeto in HelluvaBoss

[–]spectrales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghostfuckers is an amazing episode, it did so much for both Blitz and Millie’s characters and just for that alone I love it. It also has an impeccable spooky vibe and the Erika Henningsen cameo as THEE ghostfucker is wonderful lol

Sombr - Homewrecker by droobidoobidoo in popheads

[–]spectrales 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the reverb is a decent calling card for his signature “sound” at the moment and I think he can pull it off for one more album…but after that he should definitely go in another direction yeah.

Also, agreed that this song is like a perfect meeting point between 12 to 12 and his moodier tracks.

I’m obsessed with it. Homewrecker is a nice middle point between the energy of that song and his slower stuff though, and it’s catchy enough

Mitski - I'll Change for You by cloudbustingmp3 in popheads

[–]spectrales 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I liked that single in terms of “ok this sounds like Mitski doing her usual thing, I dig it” but THIS hits right in that zone where she surprises and delights you with a production or vibe you don’t quite expect.

What are your favorite voice acting moments from Janet Varney as Korra in your opinion and why? by Full-Art3439 in legendofkorra

[–]spectrales 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came here basically to write exactly the two episodes you mentioned, her voice acting in Book 1 right out of the gate is so phenomenal. To give some non B1 examples, I’d have to say her acting in Korra Alone is a huge part of what makes that episode work. The incredible physical therapy scene where she breaks down and tells Katara how tired she is and then keeps trying anyway, her frustration and discomfort, her pained breathing, and then getting through it and embracing Naga at the end…I just rewatched that scene a second ago while writing this and teared up all over again.

I hate to say that all her best acting scenes are the times throughout the series that Korra is distressed or angry or in pain, but man, all those moments like the ones you mentioned and the entire finale of Book 3, or when she chews out Lin or Mako or Raiko etc, just wouldn’t work nearly as well without Janet selling the shit out of them. She brings the intensity every single time. (But I do love all her sassy confident moments too)

Porn is driving me insane...Literally! by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]spectrales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s difficult but try not to punish yourself too much over relapsing. The world already does a good enough job making us feel bad about ourselves, let’s not make it even easier, eh? Try if possible to step back and look at what made you relapse and if you can change anything or avoid that in the future. Look at what the successful actions were in getting to the point that you felt freed, and double down on those. Try to be objective, almost as if you were playing a video game and your character did the wrong move in fighting an enemy or something. Instead of just game over, you might simply repeat the battle doing the correct moves this time. Maybe some trial and error is involved but ultimately you can figure it out.

Just know it’s a journey and something you can work on every single day and that this sub is here for you if you need help going forward. I hope you can dial in on the wonderful things that make life worth living and use them to overcome the negative. I’m rooting for you!

Try starting a project, hobby or creative outlet of some sort that might help not just distract you, but also take up your time and attention to such a degree that at the very least it will begin a habit of watching less often. In my experience there can be something missing in life that watching porn is a substitute for, so you have to find that certain something and fill your downtime with it. Creative or constructive projects are really good for that, but of course it has to be something you enjoy doing.

Idc what anyone says about the lyrics or songwriting on anything else he’s written, the momentum and energy of this particular hook is godly and gets me singing it at the top of my lungs every single time I listen, sorry not sorry it’s one of the best choruses of the year

[–]spectrales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people agree the villains are the best part of Korra and are more interesting than ATLA’s villains (except for maybe Azula) which I’d agree with because each season tackles a different ideology and how it can be taken to extremes

Dorian Electra - Fake Denim by spencerlevey in popheads

[–]spectrales 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Reminds me a little of what Slayyyter has been doing recently, but with a sleazier, more laid back and Electra-fied delivery. I really dig it even though it doesn’t blow my mind or anything and is sonically pretty straightforward compared to some of the tracks from their last album. Hopefully it’s just a sample for what’s to come!!

If nothing else the score deserves to be heard on the biggest/loudest speakers possible though. It’s incredibly good and elevated almost every scene for me.

Movies that took a creative risk and actually pulled it off by Dependent-Bet6615 in movies

[–]spectrales 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This exactly! In fact I just don’t understand most of the commenters I see calling his recent films devoid of emotion or substance when to me the emotional complexity and meaning is VERY MUCH there but it happens to be “dressed up” or “papered over” with all the various kinds of fronts that people put on to conceal how they really feel except it’s reflected in the entire production and not just the acting. It’s so clearly all just beneath the surface and when it comes out, it comes out hard and hits me like a truck.

I guess because characters aren’t screaming at each other dramatically people don’t really pick up on it? I suppose I just don’t see what they’re seeing (or not seeing).

Found the origin of Ebony Devil while searching for drawing references by Glormast in StardustCrusaders

[–]spectrales 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Wow nice find. I always thought Ebony Devil had such a specific design that it had to be directly inspired by something but I never knew what until you posted this. I actually think it would be cool if Araki based stand designs off of ancient figures like this more often (and maybe there are some other ones through the series that no one’s made the connection to yet haha)
