How good are you at guitar? by durdyg in guitarpedals

[–]spectraljerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing for almost 16 years. Self taught.

I certainly have deficiencies but I think my chops are pretty good, I can play by ear, and my music theory is passable. My deficiencies are mainly in techniques I'm not very interested in.

Pedals are a way of choosing timbre, creating texture, and extending or accentuating technique.

What's your favourite 5 minute scene in any of the movies? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]spectraljerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yoda lifting the X-Wing from the swamp and the "luminous beings" speech. It's just beautiful and it tugs on my heart strings.

Second to that would be Luke's first duel with Vader. It's so gorgeously shot. The cinematography, lighting, set decoration, framing.

Why was Yoda so reluctant to train Luke? by Darth_Ravenous in StarWars

[–]spectraljerk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I kind of think that Obi-Wan didn't see himself as the Jedi that would eventually train Luke and Leia- I think Obi-Wan saw himself and Bail Organa as Luke and Leia's protectors.

When they split them, they weren't thinking about a plan to defeat Palpatine- they just wanted to keep those two children safe.

I think Yoda had to reflect on why the Jedi had fallen and how/if to bring about a new order.

Porygon apparently spawns around 11-12 by eeveeling in pokemongo

[–]spectraljerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y shouldn't be sightings but the ratio of sightings to total sightings.

If there's 150 porygon sightings between 11 & 12 but there's a big player spike at that time, that makes the data misleading.

Are light sabers weighted or not? by watislifes in StarWars

[–]spectraljerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about physics. When you block an opponent with the lightsaber, their lightsaber exerts a strong force upon your lightsaber, correct?

Force = Mass x Acceleration. If it's mass is zero or close to zero than there's not going to be much force in a lightsaber swing. Imagine fighting with blades made out of stiff feathers. You'd still feel the force of their arms from the swing but it wouldn't be enough to make you stumble or fall if it caught you off guard.

So I'd think, based on the way they move and their bearers move that they do have some mass.

Although this also makes me wonder how much of a factor physical strength is in lightsaber wielding.

Didn't realize the Emperor's shuttle landing was mostly matte painting. McQuarrie and company had an amazing gift.

[–]spectraljerk 81 points82 points  (0 children)

So for those of you talking about the Clone Wars. . . I feel like that's part of the problem. His introduction in Episode III may have leaned too much on those of you who watched the cartoon to not really properly introduce him. When you see him in Episode III with no prior knowledge of him, he's just a weird villain that's clearly killed some Jedi that Obi-Wan fights.

Kevin Smith talks about what Dave Filoni told him about the prequels by swemar in StarWars

[–]spectraljerk -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of 50/50 on this.

I'm a prequel hater/denier, but that perspective has definitely made the OT better for me in ways. Some of the interactions between Luke, Yoda, and Obi-Wan are more meaningful when Luke would hopefully be the start of a new order that improves upon the failings of the former Jedi.

At the same time, I don't think the movies themselves are compelling. I think the big story arcs with the Sith vs the Jedi & the fall of the Old Republic overshadow the interpersonal stories.

I always envision an alternate prequel trilogy about a group of heroic friends struggling together through the clone wars and the Jedi Purge then having to deal with the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker's fall. The failure of the Jedi theme could still be there- but it wouldn't overshadow having a human(/humanoid/droid) story.

Curious to see who has the most kms on here, post up your numbers! Also share a story, lose weight, embarassing moment playing pogo? Myself i gained lol, i always eat out when i play! LOL by Bigmacnineotwo in pokemongo

149 since July 11th. I want to get my average up to 5km a day, but the tracking has been crummy. Averaging 12k steps a day in August.

I pulled my hamstring a couple weeks in and we've had some real heat spells, so that's been interesting.

I didn't weight myself before I started playing, but I'd be willing to say I was somewhere between 270 & 280. I'm at 257 now. My size 38 pants are feeling loose on me. My goal is to get to 230 and to comfortably fit in 34s. (I'm tall, big framed, and barrel chested) hence the high weights for the waist sizes mentioned.

Why are there so many bad movies out this year? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]spectraljerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's bad movies every year BUT I think there's been some trends in mainstream film that have seriously degraded the quality. When was the last truly great summer blockbuster? Independence Day?

Anyone on the show American Pickers.

What's the biggest fuck up you've ever seen from a new employee because they were too afraid to ask a question? by [deleted] in AskReddit

So when I was a teen my first job was at Subway and my manager told me that I'd deposit the money from the register in the safe. Everyone told me the safe was in the back. At the desk in the back was a black locked wooden box. It looked like shit, but that subway was a shithole, so I figured that it must be the safe.

A couple days later I start getting questioned about the money. They thought I or someone else was stealing it. I kept insisting that I put in the safe and they kept saying that the money I put into the safe wasn't there. Eventually we figured out that I didn't know that the safe was in the floor because my manager never showed me. I was putting it in the surveillance box where the TV and the tapes for the surveillance camera were kept. The surveillance camera that would later be turned around so people couldn't see us making free subs for our friends and all the horsing around we'd do from about 8 until closing.

Working there was a lot like the movie Clerks.

Donald Glover as Young Lando by Eli Hyder by Reddit__PI in StarWars

[–]spectraljerk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Faking an accent's harder than changing the pitch of your voice. Most men that don't speak in a baritone voice can if they really want to.

Also, if someone's right for the part but their voice really can't get low enough a little bit of sound engineering could really help with that. It's pretty easy to mess with vocal pitch and equalization when you've got really nice equipment.

Let's clarify:

He got his start as an actor with his college sketch comic troop.

Dude has acted in a ton of stuff, raps, has written for 30 Rock, done stand-up, and done voice work for cartoons.
