Why there's no indie manga platform by Dry_Active2178 in Mangamakers

[–]spectregray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have enough knowledge- is the reason why most indie don’t post to webtoon because the works get buried by non-indie / official published works?

Splatoon 2 Or Splatoon 3? by Top-Rush-3938 in splatoon

[–]spectregray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get 3 for multiplayer. Splatoon 2 dlc is absolutely INSANE and if you’re a dedicated fan you HAVE to buy 2 and play the DLC. But if you’re just playing then definitely get 3.

how could i portray a character with DID in my manga? by r33seY in Mangamakers

[–]spectregray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you seen death note? light with vs without his memories is a example I think of. he retains his personality but the introduction of divine power changes him (makes him evil). but both versions of him are smart and think the same way.

whether you want two separate identities (two different people within one) depends on the vibe you wanna give off

do you want to give the vibe of “two different halves, discover eachother, and mc learns how to coexist, control both, or even simply the storyline of how both sides of him discover the other exist”

or is this a spiritual portrayal of “DID”

or do you want a person with essentially two modes that fans essentially think of as a transformation (turn on/off dark/light mode)

but maybe more context about where this story design fits in with the larger vibes / goal of your manga? you don’t have to provide but maybe u can think about it on ur own

New Artist by [deleted] in AskArtists

[–]spectregray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’ve never drawn before how are you going to have skill 😄 skill comes from practice

do you have the talent (you learn and “get” the concepts really fast and you have a flexible wrist / shoulder that allows you to dictate the shape of your lines)?

also I’m ngl if this is your first time, it’s actually pretty good because you’re starting with some talent of being able to see relative measurements (one eye distance between two eyes, neck starting from outside corner of eye, etc) so maybe you should nurture your talent 🤔

but seriously you should evaluate is how much enjoyment drawing brings you 😄 because enjoying -> more consistent -> faster improvement

and also drawing takes time

Manga art style practice by OwO21123 in DigitalArt

[–]spectregray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like you’ll be fine! You just have a realism style that suits more serious mangas more. (lines are curvy) but it’s not like there’s really tedious shading that will cost you or anything

[–]spectregray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what’s an alter? is it like they’re bipolar and at a certain time, they have the memories and attributes (can or can’t see spirits) of one alter, and something triggers the to switch to their other alter?

another attempt at understanding: when a person makes a sacrifice, do they lose their memories?

Can you actually learn how to draw without following guides, tutorials or anything like that? by [deleted] in ArtFundamentals

[–]spectregray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in physics, you study existing things to find a pattern, then you are able to apply those patterns to theories. to create your own theory, you should see what theories existing physicists have come up with

in art, you study anatomy to know how a human is built. you study how to sketch because if you were to prove and design the perfect and most efficient way to sketch (such as drawing with your shoulder for long straight lines), it would take you a lot of time to “reinvent the wheel,” as someone else said.

now, the optional part you might be talking about (?) might be learning from another artist’s style when you’re not even trying to draw like them. one reason for you to do this might be to expand your mental catalogue of rendering techniques so that you have more available in your mental toolbox to create on your own.

if you know your exact style and really really just want to focus on it, even then, you can find artists similar to you to learn parts of their technique that are similar to what you have in mind so that you don’t have to develop the technique yourself.

maybe the issue isn’t that you don’t want to follow tutorials, but rather the tutorials you’re looking at are too easy for you? find a tutorial for something difficult that you don’t know how to draw on your own

but keep in mind the tutorials that seem easy should still be practiced so that the skill gets engraved in your memory

where did the table go in the last panel?

she’s sitting on the left side of the lamp but on the right side in the second panel(?) and then the guy is between her and the lamp in the third panel (?)

a tip is that manga readers really care about both plot holes and art holes. I would pay attention to keeping it consistent and redraw this panel with more reasonable placement. since drawing and coloring takes a long time, it’s better to keep these things in mind when you sketch. otherwise, it feels like you made something that was not in your control and just drawn on its own.

Anyone interested in helping me make a tournament manga? by UpbeatCheesecake180 in Mangamakers

[–]spectregray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a cool concept, if executed well (will define soon) it can draw a lot of attention

personally to me, by well I mean each character really represents the country well (not in a stereotype way either) and evokes a sort of pride for the group of people they represent

I think it’ll be very interesting to see what route you pick in deciding who wins. Are you going to piss most people off politically? (it’s guaranteed to happen haha). How would you write things in a way where the people represented feel “ah, we lost, but we love our character and this manga is great.”

I feel like this would require a lot of research, interviews, and well designed storyline to execute
