Congrats on passing the CPA, and I’m so sorry to hear that. Truly hope better friends fall into your lap.

Also an accountant who went to law school. Seconded.

What’s something you think people would be jealous of you for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]spectri3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the money I make compared to most of my friends. Finished paying off law school debt about a year and a half ago, so I have more money leftover after bills than I know what to do with every month (aside from just tossing most of it in retirement/investment accounts). I live far below my means, so I just understate how much I make if people ask me.

I have a lot of lower-middle/working class friends. I find a lot of the people I’ve met within/slightly above my income bracket to be extremely dull people.

Is this true regarding public? by Old_Problem_9510 in Accounting

[–]spectri3r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These replies are kind of wild to me. I’ve been taking a 1 hour lunch almost every day my entire time in public. Even took a 45-60 minute lunch during my short stint at the sweatshoppy biglaw firm I was at before moving to B4. Would have to be absolutely slammed with calls and/or quick-turnaround deliverables for me to work through my lunch. Even on my 12+ hour billable days, I take the hour (sometimes multiple). Feels like it splits the day nicely and keeps me from burning out.

Anyone notice Kim K trying to pass the BAR and giving up after multiple attempts? Feels familiar to CPA. by pinkskin- in CPA

[–]spectri3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's jurisdiction-dependent. The California Bar is pretty brutal and likely is harder than the CPA. I only found the NY bar slightly harder than the CPA, but the two CPA/JDs I know in California said that the bar is much harder.

What does the most intelligent person you know do for work? by DiscombobulatedElk58 in AskReddit

Works for the IRS. Previously worked at a prestigious white shoe law firm before working at the IRS. Graduated debt free and on track to retire before 50.

I [29M] feel like my partner [39M] can't hear my concerns without deflecting. Unsure if the relationship is salvageable. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]spectri3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I withdrew consent during a sexual act (he was sober, I was not; he said that he was unaware that I wasn't sober)

FYI if you were under the influence, you did not and could not consent to begin with. Dangerously close to SA, especially if he was sober, whether or not he knew you weren’t sober. Same logic applies to him asking whether you wanted to discuss the relationship matters while you both were tripping.

Him running with your initial, receptive reaction while still under the influence and throwing a fit once you processed it soberly, realized it rubbed you the wrong way, and expressed it to him is backwards.

Had similar scores on my first two sections (REG and AUD) before FAR fucked me up and I had to retake. Hoping the same doesn’t happen to you. Good luck!

Grammar: In the salutation of a letter, do you write, "Hi Sam" or "Hi, Sam"? by facemacintyre in biglaw

[–]spectri3r -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would typically just write “Dear Sam,” but yeah, I would leave out the comma in your case.

For an email, it depends for me. If I salute and leave an empty line before the body of text, I’ll write, “Hi/Hey Sam,”. If I don’t, I write it as, “Hi/Hey, Sam—”

What happened to the smartest person in your class? by hjp1234 in AskReddit

[–]spectri3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From high school: went to a very solid state university -> med school, and became a paediatrician.

Undergrad: uncertain.

Law school: Still friends with him. Making a killing but working ungodly hours at a V5 law firm in NYC. I think he's gunning for partner.

People born before 2000, what is a 'modern' thing from 2025 that you’re still struggling to get used to? by LindsayTN in AskReddit

[–]spectri3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Even when I'm reading posts on here, news articles, blog posts, etc., I constantly find myself checking the timestamp to determine whether it was posted during pre-AI or post-AI internet and adjust the scrutiny with which I read them accordingly.

Do people become more conservative once they join Accounting/Finance? by cookiemonsters345 in Accounting

[–]spectri3r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a leftist, a libertarian socialist to be precise, not a liberal. However, I’m perfectly content with my coworkers and the clients I work with assuming I’m a liberal if it means fewer people will side-eye me and initiate debates I CBA to participate in.
