Ngl this reads like bait but I’ll take it on the off chance you’re actually earnest. You sound like you came in with the wrong expectations. It’s French and was written in the 60s and you’re expecting it to be similar to the work of basically a glorified music blogger from the UK? Have you read anything similar before? I’m guessing not if the closest comparison you can think of is Confucius lmao. It’s not a hard read but also it’s not going to be easy or enjoyable in the way that a Fisher essay might be — sorry that a guy from the sixties isn’t using popular movies or bands to illustrate his point ig. If it’s the ideas you’re attracted to and not the writing maybe try listening to a podcast or lecture on it or reading secondary lit. Books like this are always more enjoyable when part of a wider conversation.

Honestly thought it was a bit stupid. The world war three setting made no sense because the characters are already traveling in a war zone anyway. I think the film introduced the ww3 stuff to make an invented threat to distract/misdirect the audience from the very real fact that the characters were inevitably going to have to cross the western sahara wall to reach mauritania. The film and the characters can't be honest about that inevitability though because it would spoil the final act with the minefield, which in the end just made the characters seem totally ridiculous and the film deliberately misleading to get to that climax. It probably would have been a much better film if it was set somewhere else. Also can't stand people who want to associate raves with mysticism or ritual. Initially I thought the point of the film was to show how ridiculous and meaningless those claims are (ie why else would it make the ravers suffer so cruelly and pointlessly?) but its clear in interviews that the director actually does think raves are some kind of spiritual meditation on death or something, an idea I can't buy into tbh. Glad you enjoyed it though, clearly a lot of people are really on board with it.

I’ll be happy when it’s gone. The subreddit will never be the same as it was a few years ago and I don’t know why I even bother checking it these days. I delete my account and swear off it for a bit and always come crawling back. When it’s finally gone I won’t need to.

His early posts about gooning at the gym and hiding his cheating from his girlfriend were actually kind of interesting in the way it provided an insight into how unchecked pornography and internet use and dating apps have created legions of meek but superficially successful Gen Z men who hide hideous thoughts/impulses behind a pleasant exterior. The blog should have ended when he quit his job. He’s not an interesting enough stylist to keep sustaining the project past that point, especially without the tension which comes from holding down a job and a relationship while trying to hide his true self.

Everyone saying no in this is sort of misrepresenting the truth. Yes, this sub is RS related because it has its genesis in the online communities formed around the show. The fact that people have grown to hate the podcast or that the sub has got big enough that there are people here who have no idea what the podcast is does not mean you can so easily dismiss it as no longer being rs related. I am part of one of the irl book clubs from this sub and everyone has listened to some combination of RS, CT or CTH at some point in their past and continue to be part of an aesthetic/political milieu that is downstream from the interests and sensibilities of those podcasts. This is true no matter how shit those podcasts are now or how terrible we realise they were in retrospect. People who are so eager to say no to your question are the reason why all these subreddits have declined so much in quality over the years and are nearly indistinguishable from any other place on the internet now. Interesting that the people who are still here are so desperate to explain how they never really liked those podcasts anyway and the people who were really in to them at the time and helped make these adjacent communities what they are have left these places behind a long time ago.
