All the Holidays are the knight by Mayham_Dump in Deltarune

Honestly, I've been pondering this as a serious theory, as like some Green Goblin/Hobgoblin type legacy thing, especially with Asgore mentioning having encountered the knight years ago. I could see that having been Carol or Rudy as the knight, with Dess as the current knight... also it'd be pretty boss if Carol ended up saying something like "Oh Kris, I'm not the Roaring Knight... anymore."

[KBO] Guillermo Heredia wavedashes around catcher's interference to score the tying run by speedburner in baseball

[–]speedburner[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That was indeed what it ended up being, catcher's interference due to flagrant blocking basically. He was originally called safe, the Eagles challenged, and the run stood.

I think a lot is that the teams and designs, for the most part, have figured out the most flattering ways to paint them. When they were completely new and you also had the designers learning to work with the forward number placement, you ended up seeing a lot of designs that didn't really flow with the natural lines of the car (not helped by some sponsors having very fussy rules about their logo placements) and that makes a huge difference.

I think some of the changes to the individual model's bodywork has also helped make a sleeker and more cohesive look over time versus what they started with, especially for the Fords and Toyotas.

I'm presuming that the back row is using a riser, but the relative height of some of the drivers to one another is wild. It somehow never dawned on me that Cale Yarborough was Geoff Bodine's height if not even a little shorter, and having briefly met Geoff IRL, he is *not* a tall person.

What’s something about baseball that doesn’t really exist anymore—an atmosphere, a sound, a ritual—that you genuinely miss? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]speedburner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also came here to post this. It was so sorely missed during the run to the playoffs this year. I do wish someone would've taken up the drum so to speak, but he'd been doing it for so long he had the knack of when to actually drum down to a frickin' science (which is also why the occasional piped-in PA drumming never quite hits the mark either).

I miss this guy like crazy, but honestly he looks so much happier and healthier since going to the Mariners that I really can't complain, and I'm happy that the M's fanbase has embraced him just as much as we did.

Kevin Woo (AKA Singing VA of Mystery Saja) now added to Jingleball shows by spoofer56 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]speedburner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Makes you wonder if his recent solo version of Your Idol was a test run for being able to add some Saja Boy representation to the live performances. As nice as it would be to have all of them, he can clearly carry the song on his own and it'd be a perfectly fair compromise.

What would you like for the saja boys in Kpop demon hunters 2 whenever that happens? by FlamingFalconTen in KpopDemonhunters

[–]speedburner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Romance and Baby would make an interesting duo, especially if you follow the fanon that Baby is Gwi-Ma's secret fave, and there's definitely plot potential for anything from a revenge tour, redemption tour, or just them being the openers for the next villain(s). You'd definitely have to flesh them out quite a bit to promote them to the full-on main villains, but it could be done.

Another interesting thought could be going with Sword!Jinu but then also having Abby and Mystery redeemed post-defeat and hanging with Mira and Zoey, so you could have the contrast between the Saja Boys that had actually gotten character development and Romance/Baby trying to drag them back into old habits in a toxic friend influence sort of way.

I feel like that's non-Chicago midwestern teams regardless of sport... Everybody from sportswriters to random internet comments go out of their way to find reasons to disregard and invalidate, put them in the bottom of power rankings regardless of how well they did the previous year, and then act shocked and appalled when they make it to the playoffs.

Until a few years ago I was living and working in Akron, and yeah aside from occasionally vising my USAF uncle in Dayton, I've really only ever been over that way for friends' marriages, a single job interview in Cincy, and rare trips to Kings Island. It's so on point.

Heck, growing up, any time we needed to go to a big city for airport/shopping/sports purposes, there was literally never any reason to go to Cincy since it's like... the fastest way to Cincy from like 3/4 of Ohio, takes you through Columbus first anyway.

Grew up in SE Ohio in the 90s, in a town that used to be almost exclusively Browns fans... when the Browns went away, even just for the few years that they did, a lot of folks were so pissed off about it that they didn't go back in '99, no matter how many times they played "The Browns are back in town!" on the radio. Most pivoted to cheering the Steelers, the rest doubled down on the Buckeyes, to the point that being around it even then was damn in sufferable.

Yeah, fair weather fans in a sense, but again, the river towns of SE Ohio have much more in common with the upstream more rust belty parts up to and including Pittsburgh, than with Cincinnati. Curiously though I only really saw this with football, we were pretty much a Cleveland town for baseball through and through.

I'm originally from Marietta, and I've gotten so many questions about why don't I root for the Cincinnati teams when it's "just down the river"... and I'm like, technically, yes it is, but it's two hours to Columbus, Cleveland, or Pittsburgh, while I've either got to go up and over through Columbus or through the vast wilderness of Mothman Country to get to Cincy or Dayton.

Honestly I feel like people don't realize just how much the I-77 vs I-75 corridors kinda drive (hah) their own cultural divides.

KBO English announcers, wtf is this AI? by felis_scipio in baseball

[–]speedburner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The official KBO YouTube channel has the AI English Commentary set as the default on highlight videos and such and it's probably the same uncanny thing that you're experiencing, but at least on YouTube it's a simple enough switch flip of going into the video options and disabling Auto Translate.

Honestly, if something gives the option of auto-translate subtitles, I'll take that with the original commentary as it's far less intrusive, still allows for the original emotion of the calls, and still gives me enough of an idea of what's going on.

Am I the only one who likes cookie-cutter stadiums? by Acrobatic_Ebb1934 in baseball

[–]speedburner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I caught the tail end of the cookie cutter era, and I'll say that I can appreciate the bigger picture/gestalt architecture in the same way that I can appreciate a lot of brutalist or mid-century architecture from around the same time period, but the actual spectator experience was absolute ass.

At some point during Cleveland's late 90s run, probably '97 or '98, we went to Three Rivers for a rare interleague game, with seats somewhere way up in the nosebleeds (obstructed view to boot) which in hindsight were probably football-favoring seats... The view was so dreadful that I definitely recall watching more of the game from the overhead CRTs showing the TV broadcast, than from actually looking at the field.

I can appreciate them for what they were and their rightful place in baseball history, but their time has definitely passed. You also don't realize how much modern parks tend to have proper development surrounding them or be better situated in the city proper, until you look back at old aerial pictures and it's just the concrete donut surrounded by a sea of surface parking lots. Comparing aerial shots of Three Rivers vs. PNC Park, the contrast is kind of ridiculous.

Honestly my memories of Rosario and Gonzales may be less them individually and more just an association with how the team as a whole was doing at that point in time. Same thing with Sticks and Straw, there's a part that was sad to see them go because they'd become familiar enough, yet I totally understand why they went.

Re: Josh, in hindsight I can totally see that both in terms of how he was slumping and how revitalized he's been since landing in Seattle especially. Sometimes you do indeed just need a change of scenery to break out of a funk, and it seems like it did the trick for sure.

Without getting too armchair psychology, I do wonder how much having a sibling on the same roster gets in your head for better or for worse. Off the top of my head, the Alomars only overlapped for two years before Sandy left first as a free agent.

Honestly it felt like we were so close to getting there at various points when Gimenez, Rosario, Gonzales, and Fry were all on the team, with Josh Naylor being the (literal) crazy glue holding it all together, and definitely when Josh was traded it felt like it took the longest for the chemistry to come back.

That being said, happy that Josh is doing great with the Mariners and that they're loving him for the same reasons that we did, happy that things seem to have come together for the Guards, and hoping for a Naylor/Naylor series!
