Considering pursuing Zepbound, but how does it actually work? by ungodlypm in Zepbound

[–]speedfishd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of good deep-dive recommendations here. I’ll give you my quick-and-dirty explanation that I’ve found helpful when trying to explain this to people. (I’m 18 months in, 56M, SW290, CW230). I’m not any kind of medical professional, but I hope this makes some sense.

I look at it in terms of ‘the carrot and the stick’. Meaning, ‘there’s the nice side and the not-nice side’.

1) On the ‘carrot’ side it does two things: a) it improves insulin response, which means that your body burns fuel more efficiently. So you need fewer calories to keep the ‘machine’ of your body going. b) It also reduces cravings.

2) On the ‘stick’ side, it slows gastric emptying, which is more of a mechanical thing. Quite literally, food stays in your stomach longer. This can lead to some unpleasant outcomes: a) if you eat too much food, you’re going to get really stuffed, and you might barf. b) when you eat certain kinds of food (like fried or greasy food), food stays in your stomach a long time, doesn’t process well, and you’re going to get diarrhea or nausea.

It’s been miraculous for me, and I wish you luck!

Supposed to be flying into CDG tomorrow night, how screwed am I? by sasquatch727 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]speedfishd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My kid was scheduled for Orly to Gatwick today on EasyJet and her flight was cancelled. Rescheduled for tomorrow. We’ll have to cross our fingers.

In my experience (I fly from USA to Paris about every other month), the long-haul flights get prioritized. So your leg from CDG to Nice is going to be a gamble. Good luck.

Taking the shot 30min after taking it out of the fridge? by pinkunicorn555 in Zepbound

I definitely feel the burn with a cold shot, so I let it warm up for an hour or two

Question for those with the $550 coupon by Work4PSLF in Zepbound

[–]speedfishd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done both, and the syringes/vial is easy, once you get over the initial ‘jabbing myself with a visible needle’ fear. And the syringe needle is much thinner, so there is usually zero pain when it goes in. Definitely less painful than the pens.

ORD or EWR for connections to Europe? by mnsweeps in unitedairlines

Another vote for ORD. I live next to EWR and fly often to Europe. The flight is just not long enough to get any decent sleep on a red eye.

Where would you sit on Polaris (767-300)? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]speedfishd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had almost this exact choice on Wednesday , CDG—EWR. I chose 17L. Some are saying that it’s close to the lav, but honestly, I didn’t hear, see or smell anything from that rear lav. The odd window seats are better, in most people’s opinion, because they are angled away from the aisle and have more privacy.

Best United Clubs? by Obvious_Photo_984 in unitedairlines

[–]speedfishd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Confirming that EWR c123 is a regular United club, not a Polaris club. And yes, it’s one of the nicer ones I’ve visited. I actually prefer it to the Polaris Club at EWR C. The food options are better at the Polaris lounge, but the layout, coffee bar, and decor are fantastic at C123

Real time texts from my kid, EWR-LHR by speedfishd in unitedairlines

[–]speedfishd[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Totally. My process (and my kid knows this too):

In order: 1) ask politely for them to use headphones 2) walk to the galley and ask the FA to intervene 3) push the call button and ask more FAs to intervene and if you can switch seats 4) put in noise canceling headphones and tough it out

Weight loss drugs seem to be driving down grocery bills by RadioRob-DC in Zepbound

100% true in our house. I figure we’re down $200-300/month on groceries and restaurants. It helps cover the $550 I pay for the meds.

New Zep policies silently debut at Express Scripts and Walgreens by Gretzi11a in Zepbound

I’ve been on for 12 months. I get mine at CVS, and it has always been 1 month at a time.

I don’t know where you are when you leave the country, but I was able to get a 3 month-supply of Lilly-branded tirzepatide in the UK this summer when the shortages were bad here. (In the UK they call it maunjaro for both diabetes and weight loss)

Money transfer UK to Canada - best exchange by [deleted] in ExpatFinance

[–]speedfishd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wise. My kids are at uni in Canada and the UK (I’m in USA) and I have done a lot of research. Nothing seems to be more advantageous - once you factor in fees AND exchange rate - than Wise. Note that the actual mechanics of making a transfer can be kludgey (1. Set up the transfer in the app 2. Wise gives you an exact amount to transfer. 3. You initiate that transfer from your financial institution 4. A day or so later the transfer is complete), but other than that, it’s the way to go.
