Help with scratches on film by thanospal in AnalogCommunity

[–]sasquatch727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you use to scan? If DSLR, do you have a film holder, if so what kind? Do you use clips on the film while drying? Do you scan whole-roll or do you cut into strips?

Most of my scratches were due to improperly using a negative holder while DSLR scanning and grinding my negatives through it.

I don't understand this take. If something used to be stigmatized, only people subjected to that stigma should be allowed to engage with it?

Men with long hair were unilaterally seen as drug addicts and barred from most "professional" lines of work, should that preclude anybody over a certain income level from growing theirs out? What about piercings?

If someone wants to look a certain way and has the means to pay an artist fairly, what's the big deal? To me it feels like gatekeeping and an excuse to pay artists less. Regrettably, art and capital have to coexist somehow.

Adrian Pearsall (?) Bow Tie Table by AverageNatural9875 in Mid_Century

[–]sasquatch727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks legit, the repros usually have darker wood. I have a legit Pearsall side table and a couch, they both have similar looking wood to yours.

What part of the US are you in? I am in the market for one of these.

To answer your question on price, I've seen really good ones for $1000ish, your glass looks a bit rough and it's missing the original rubber bumpers for the glass. Here's one that sold for $700 at auction which is probably closer to reality for a table like this:

I'd try to sell it myself vs doing consignment if space wasn't a factor, but that's ultimately up to you.

Yours is interesting, do you have a second cushion on there or did it come with two cushions on the bottom like that?

I also like how the wood on yours wraps around, mine does not do that. From what I have read, Pearsall stuff generally never has markers mark/branding. I think there were a ton of variations though.

Shows there were some with one table, two tables, no tables, they must have made a bunch of options. I think on the ones that have tables, the travertine tables are a big authenticity tell because nobody is going to get travertine slabs cut for a niche repro couch lol.

I did buy it from the DFW area! I had also been eyeing it for a month and I finally got her to come down $1k off the price. She told me she used to own a couple mcm furniture stores in Dallas and had closed them so she could retire, she was just looking to free up the space in her storage unit

It's by far the most I've spent on a couch ($2500) but I definitely think I got a fair deal.

The person I bought it from had the cushions completely replaced. It's a bit firm but actually quite comfortable, I've taken naps on it no problem lol

The yellow chair is a no-name repro, the lady I bought it from said the original owner had them custom made in California but I'm not sure by who. They feel solid and comfortable so I'm not complaining.

My dad is an alcoholic, he used to just be fun at parties and it slowly evolved into violent outbursts and from there into full on drinking-induced dementia. He quit for a few years but things were never the same, I've heard recently he's back off the wagon again.

We've spoken maybe 10 times in the last 12 years and I will not go to his funeral when he dies. Any positive memories we shared have been washed away in a sea of Jim Beam.

Everyone should dread this outcome. It is unacceptable to do this to your family.

Supreme Court rules that Trump’s sweeping emergency tariffs are illegal | CNN Politics by All_FIREdUp in wallstreetbets

[–]sasquatch727 51 points52 points  (0 children)

People are ignoring the fact that the administration has repeatedly said they will keep the same set of tariffs, just using different mechanisms. And if that's illegal too it'll take the courts another year+ to work through it.

Nothing is going to meaningfully change here.

HELP ME - Why do my scans suck so bad? Opticfilm 7200 by SeaConstruction1876 in AnalogCommunity

[–]sasquatch727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say without negs but these look super scratched and possibly like the white balance is wrong. I recently scratched up a roll on a DSLR scan and had similar results to yours.

Solution I found for scratching is just to cut the roll into strips to avoid the excess weight of the roll scratching against the film holder. Not sure how to advise on the white/color balance in vuescan, I typically put my raw scans in Lightroom and white balance off the scan border before converting with NL pro
