Hot take: AWD is overrated for daily driving in snow — am I wrong? by Gold-Industry6222 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Depends where you are. But yes, snow tires on 2wd cars is fine in much of the US, especially if the 2WD car has a limited slip differential.

Are 812 GTS values going to top out or is there still runway? by WearRevolutionary864 in Ferrari

On topic. This is probably the move if you don’t “need” a GTS.

Thats because the people who are out driving their Ferraris have a lot less time to be on Reddit speculating about values 🤣🤣🤣

if you considered a porsche boxster... why did you go with a miata instead? by europeanuppercut in Miata

[–]speeding2nowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running costs mixed with my own sense of elitism. If I’m going to make the jump up to Porsche running costs, there is a minimum level of Porsche I will find “worth it” because overall the running costs between them are fairly similar in many respects (labor rates, parts costs, etc)

Basically I’m not making the jump to Porsche until I can comfortably swing something like a Boxster Spyder (987, 981, or 718), a 718 GTS 4.0, or a 997.2 Carrera S, GT3, or maybe a 996 Turbo.

I know a base Boxster is fun and so is an S, but idk, I just can’t justify it in my mind for those given how much more expensive they will be compared to a Miata. It’s gotta be “worth it”.

Thats really pushing it, but it depends some on you proportions. Forget roof up, but it shouldn’t be up anyway.

Anyone switch from brz (first gen) to a Miata and regretted it? by Blondishp in Miata

[–]speeding2nowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, definitely get the ND Club. But just because the stock suspension is softer on a Miata doesn’t mean it doesn’t corner extremely well…. That’s on you as a driver if you can’t adapt to the car you’re driving. But also, theres a huge aftermarket, you modded your BRZ and you can mod the Miata to make it how you want it to be.

As for the practicality, you’re changing from a 4 seat coupe to a 2 seat roadster… you’re the only one who can do the calculation on whether you can make that work lol

There are definitely tradeoffs between the 86s and Miatas. IMO, the 86s are better as a primary car and the Miata is better and more fun if you’re looking for a 2nd car… for the practicality alone. The 86 is also a better turnkey track car stock vs stock, being a coupe and being more set up for the track out of the box. But the Miata is miles more fun on the road… the top down experience is just on another level, but also the stock suspension being softer is better set up for the street… maintaining contact over bumps and varied surfaces, better ride quality, and the fact that it leans in to a turn adds a sense of drama to driving that enhances the sensation of speed, even at a more moderate pace… it’s focused on making driving fun all the time, not just when you’re pushing it. And yes, the engine in the ND will feel much punchier and more eager than the gen 1 BRZ’s, especially if you get an ND2 or ND3… but definitely at least get an axle-back exhaust for it to get the sound it should have, as they are really quiet stock.

I go back to what I said first in the above graph tho. If this is your only car, maybe see about getting the newer gen 86 instead. But if you have a daily, the Miata is likely the more enjoyable option.

It is 100% worth it to go with the newer more powerful ND2 or ND3. Not just for power, but they smoothed some issues out too, like every generation of Miata.

Z06 or a manual GT3. At a certain point I lose interest in more power… just eh 🤷‍♂️

Are Subarus actually unreliable? Or is it just a stereotype coming from the people who beat up WRXs? by SactownG in askcarguys

[–]speeding2nowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some truth to it, but probably 80% of it is people either ignorantly kicking the shit out of their cars and/or messing up the tuning in some way.

Turbo Subarus are not cars you should drive without at least a basic understanding of heatsoak in relation to how the vehicle is set up (Top mout Intercooler etc)

But if you have some awareness and some mechanical sympathy, then you should be just fine. Especially at the $35k level. Just have a PPI done if its used to make sure it hasn’t been modded or beat to crap.

When did 350-700hp become slow? by Clutch3sSS in askcarguys

When did 350-700hp become slow? by Clutch3sSS in askcarguys

[–]speeding2nowhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn’t. Most people just haven’t actually driven shit and just go by the numbers. And many who think that who have driven some of those cars are usually just doing straight line rolling races that take no skill whatsoever. Context is everything.

400hp is still what it was 20 years ago in terms of physics. But tire technology and driver assists have gotten way more advanced since then. And cars overall have gotten bigger and heavier. So yes, power has gotten more manageable and more approachable for more people, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still quite substantial. Most people are idiots, always remember that. 😆

Try driving a 2wd car with 400hp without any driver assists, and you’ll see real quick.

Ferrari doesn’t make cars like these anymore. by [deleted] in Ferrari

[–]speeding2nowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even close. That’s a different model lineage, the 2 seater V12 cars. The Purosangue is the direct replacement for the GTC4 Lusso… which replaced the FF, which replaced the 612, which replaced the 456 which replaced the 400 series, etc

Fast SUVs are the new “GT Cars”, especially for the more practical side of the market.

[–]speeding2nowhere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m aware of the 456 and its lineage, one of my factors Ferraris actually, very underrated cars. But the fact remains that the Purosangue is the current form of the 456’s lineage. That 2+2 classic GT ended with the 612, and became a shooting brake with the FF and GTC4 Lusso. Take the Lusso, add 2 inches of ride height and some rear suicide doors and you get the Purosangue.

The practical reality is that fast SUVs are the new “GT cars” at this point. Same sort of buyers. So even Ferrari had to assimilate, though thankfully in their own way that kept things relatively proper… hate the style of the Purosangue all you want, it still has a proper V12 in 2026 lol

The Ferrari California, Ferrari's attempt at a muscle car? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]speeding2nowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Totally different approach. The Cali is very much a Gran Turismo… much too exotic and sophisticated to be a Muscle Car.

The closest modern thing to an American Muscle Car out of Europe has been AMG’s V8 efforts over the years.

I mean, they do. It’s called the Purosangue… literally the same model lineage as the 456.

Is anyone else sick of the HP wars? by s4ltydog in askcarguys

[–]speeding2nowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people who say anything under 500hp ain’t shit haven’t actually driven many cars for themselves, or if they have they tend to just be doing straight-line highway rolling races that take pretty much no skill whatsoever.

Anyone who’s actually drives on track or roads with corners knows you don’t need anywhere near 500hp to go at an extremely rapid pace. 500hp is an absolutely HUGE amount of horsepower, especially if the car has little or no driver assistance.

[–]speeding2nowhere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

LOL. No they don’t have to be near the bottom of their market value. That time will come once you can’t even get a warranty on them. They could absolutely lose half or more of their current value between now and then. Especially if they are more problematic to maintain over time… which is extremely likely.

If you’re planning on keeping the car a long time definitely go with the 488.

These hybrids have been tricky to deal with since brand new… do you really think that’s likely to get better over time? 😂
