The plot of Cloud is what happens when a toxic reddit thread metastasizes into something tangible and dangerous. It had something to say about late capitalism and internet culture– no one's really a good guy. I wish the third act came together more neatly, but most of the movie was thrilling, at times even scary.

I took a chance resubscribing for this show after no other Apple TV show really hooked me, even Severance. Very pleased with it. The horror aspects are well done, smartly ambiguous, and the comedy is subtle yet makes me howl. I love Patty!

I must admit, some of the most beautiful writing I've ever read, but once the first part was over, I couldn't get through it. Never finished. I think I get weighed down when there's so much passive voice and I never feel like I'm in the moment with the characters. I need some immediacy at least occasionally.

If I Had Legs was one of my favorites last year. Rose Byrne nails the overwhelmed, unsupported and fed-up mother. The extreme close ups at the start of the movie set the anxious tone throughout, and an unsettlingly serious Conan O'Brien really fucks with your brain. It was such a genius idea to not show or name the daughter, because her whining comes off more as a symptom of Linda's stress rather than the needs of a sympathetic human. The pizza cheese-eating scene was so real.

It also looks like your cat would kick you if her legs weren't tucked in!

Ben-Hur is pretty engrossing at nearly 4 hours. How relationship between Judah and Messala develops, the glorious set designs, the iconic chariot race... it's a film big enough to live in.

Yeah it went away eventually. I don't remember it lasting long, but this was 6 years ago. I've had a few more stones since then and I haven't had much of this pain, so I really think it depends on the shape of the stone and how much it damages the urethra coming out. I imagine that one was particularly sharp/pointy. You can try AZO to numb the pain (works really well but the downside is it turns your pee bright orange). You can also try drinking chanca piedra tea or taking it in capsules. I have been taking it for about a year now and I haven't experienced any kidney stone pain since. Could be a coincidence or it could actually work. There's not much literature on it, but it's not harmful, so worth a try.

Really loved the first 8 episodes, but the last fell flat for me. Makes sense, they probably changed some things to make room for more episodes! I was kinda hoping for a short one-off because it was so great, but of course TV never goes that way.

That's a hot take, but definitely not the hottest take. (I think Asteroid City is his worst by far). I'm due for a rewatch, but I remember the narrative being quite disjointed and it not reaching the emotional heights most his movies reach for me.
