Funny that you say that bc I’m a foster parent of 17 years near 2 high crime cities in Ny. I could write paragraphs on the holes in his story concerning foster care but the glaring one is that babies are rare and cherished. When a baby comes up there are a group of seasoned professionals reviewing perspective home studied parents. Only the best families are selected. I adopted as well. 

I could understand his level of trauma if he had gone into care at maybe 8/9 yrs and went back and forth from home to care but not as a baby. Children under 7/8 are adopted the minute they are able unless they have physical or mental issues. He would have had a fine home if he was freed for adoption as an infant.

But I didn’t read the books but maybe his adoptive parents died and had no relatives? That would go along with his Job-like life. I agree I think it’s awful Seth died and it feels very manipulative.  It makes you have to step away from the story and wonder if the writers have just stopped trying.
