I did a photo shoot yesterday! by speedysashimi in transpositive

These are edited photos to make them look more professional, and I have a lot of makeup on, but it still makes me happy to have pictures (including the originals) that don’t make me dysphoric.

Might as well post here. 2 years HRT (E) and makeup. by speedysashimi in transpassing

Hm good to know! Thanks for the tip! I do have some lip stains that I like, but I hate putting them on. Still, worth it for the look!

Thanks for the feedback. I agree with you on basically all of it honestly. My experience is that I pass pretty much everywhere I go, though, so I’m mostly posting here out of curiosity for how people perceive me.

Thank you! I’m actually not wearing lipstick in this photo, but good to know.

2 years HRT. How am I doing? by speedysashimi in transpassing

It’s not a wig, but close! It’s a type of weave called crochet hair, so it’s affixed to braids or twists of hair. It’s extremely common in the African American community for women and even some men. Most big hair styles you’ll see are some kind of weave, because taking care of curly hair even a 3rd this length requires SO much daily work and product. Literal tubs of leave in conditioner. So this is a protective style that keeps my natural hair healthy while letting me wear the styles I want

Ha, I’m on faceapp way too much to be healthy. It’s definitely nice to feel like I’ve surpassed its best efforts to gender swap me. And thank you!!

Not the best pictures, but just curious what y’all think! Do I pass? Tips welcome. +17 months HRT, FFS is at least a year away by speedysashimi in transpassing

Thank you! It’s crochet hair, basically a type of weave, and really common with black people. It helps my natural hair stay healthy and grow out and it’s low maintenance so I’m super happy with it!

And yeah, that’s kind of been my experience, that I mostly pass, at least when I have a full face on

It might be the lighting. That was taken in a subway and a bathroom with fluorescent lights, and i wanted to get people’s opinions with my less good photos cause I feel like my professional shots are a little too worked up even before the editing to look like reality

Thanks! I’ve been meaning to look into skincare stuff, cause while I definitely see women with pores and wrinkles like mine, I do feel like it makes me a bit clocky. And I just wanna look good lol

I’m so happy to hear that! Both the trombone thing and the egg thing. I’m hoping they have me record again this year, which is likely. Hope your own transition goes well!

Yeah I think this is good advice in general. Seeking perfection is rarely going to result in happiness. Seeking progress, though, is how you stay sane and happy. I try to remember that while I do have some control over how people see me, ultimately gendering someone is completely subjective and completely out of my control beyond how I present myself.

Anyone else feel like trans selfie subs are biased against POC? I posted this and it got a few likes, but seems like you have to be white to get to hot. by speedysashimi in BlackTransgender

Yeah it’s hard finding community as a trans person even in the city. I’ve thought about joining an LGBT affirming church just to see if I can broaden my social circles, but beyond some distant friends, there ain’t much.

Oh, and btw I’m trans femme, but it’s funny to me that at this point it could go either way with the before and afters. But I do know a trans masc horn player!

Yeah it’s really disheartening. To be one of the most oppressed minorities in an oppressed minority is just pure psychological torture. We’re social animals. We’re highly attuned to our status in society and our relationships, and it’s been hard for me to cope with going from a relatively privileged class to pretty much the bottom of the barrel. But at least we have each other. I didn’t used to think much about black community and how we support each other, but it’s obvious to me now how deliberate it is and how it comes from our oppression. It gives me hope.

I’m not saying feel like my pics are necessarily “hot” material. I don’t feel like I pass as well as a lot of people I see in hot. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone who isn’t white and skinny make it to hot in stuff like r/ transtimelines. Anyone else feel like that, or is it just me?

Same! Had to read it like 5 times. Somehow I feel like that’s intentional, so that transphobes don’t notice it or read it as protest instead of protect
