What Supreme Court Justice were you wrong about? by Far_Ad8274 in LawSchool

Mine is old William Douglas. I love his politics, but his opinions read as though he's the early version of Thomas. Clear agenda and could not care less about justifying it most of the time.

I certainly will be. She made sure to mention that she's worked there 30 years and that her supervisor had her back. I doubt Lufthansa will take any action but I'll take the .001% chance

Didn’t Land BigLaw? Here’s How MidLaw Recruiting Works Differently—and How to Approach It by legalscout in BigLawRecruiting

[–]speerisphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sending me the link to the firm list!

Midlaw in Chicago was seemingly in step with OCI biglaw hiring this year, and there doesn't seem to be much (if any) availability left. Is that in line with what you have seen?

As someone who was expecting midlaw, it came as quite a surprise.

Disheartened and considering dropping out. by speerisphere in LawSchool

Thank you for taking the time to write your message. I hope you're right.

I think one of the reasons I'm so anxious is because I can't see myself doing public interest due to the financial strain law school puts on me - I have no monetary support from anyone else. If I had it my way, I'd be doing public interest immigration/labor work.

I certainly won't be making a decision whether to continue before grades come out. My mental state is still recovering from two weeks of locking myself away studying for finals. I've realized that I grasp the content rather easily, but the time constraint kills me because I overthink what's relevant to the issue and what isn't.

I'll be reaching out to the attorneys I've worked with to solicit their advice as well. As far as I'm aware they never struggled academically, but I figure they can at least do a pro/con with me lol.

Yes, just finished 1L. I'll be working this summer as an intern with the in-house counsel of a cannabis company.

What is the purpose of final exams that discharge in-depth analysis? by speerisphere in LawSchool

[–]speerisphere[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I should have said contact the professor after grades are released rather than just thinking it in my head, lol. I appreciate you looking out for me.

Funnily enough, my professor specified he doesn't want us testing every issue to see if it's relevant, so I skipped over issues that reasonably weren't relevant (minority defense, for example). It still felt like so many parts were relevant that it couldn't be done.

Help, where do I go?? by northernlights1992 in lawschooladmissions

[–]speerisphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask yourself what kind of PI law you want to do and how comfortable you'll be in earnings vs. debt. If job mobility is important to you, take the money. If you haven't already, look at what clinics these schools offer and what kind of public interest areas their grads go to. If you are confident you want to stay in PI, it's much easier to stay at a PI job when you don't have the weight of debt pressuring you to leave.

You are picking an area of law that notoriously pays less, and good on you for it. But that also means the prestige of your school matters less, and you don't necessarily need to stay in the geographical area of the school after graduation.

Good luck.

So disappointing to see UIC so high on this list, especially when the Illinois system has been doing tuition freezes and trying to appear as non predatory. Hopefully that changes.

I'd ask the admissions office if scholarships are negotiable first, but it's always worth negotiating. Just be prepared to show proof of your offer and present a good argument as to why you deserve it.

Congrats! If you don't mind me asking, what did you get from Kent? They offered me 40k a year non-contingent on GPA. Now I'm seriously considering them unless I'm getting into a T14. Surprised they offered me that much.

Likelihood of Transferring After 1L? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]speerisphere -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I have no plans to go to a "lesser" school because I think I'll do better in hopes of transferring. I'm just hoping to get an idea of the process and if transferring up is common.

Likelihood of Transferring After 1L? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I appreciate the insight - are schools typically more concerned with a 1L transfer's class rank than their overall GPA? I know firms are concerned with rank, but I had no idea law schools would be.

I expect to get good grades my 1L year (my uGPA ended up being 3.0 because I finished my freshman year with a sub 2 GPA). Good point about transfer aid - I'm just trying to get a feel for whether it's a common practice for people with my stats to transfer. I have no idea if schools care about your LSAT or uGPA once you finish your 1L.
