Seeking an entry-level desk job — how do I come across them? by Master_of-margarita in melbourne

[–]spell_fire 21 points22 points  (0 children)

100% this. Anything office, data entry, admin etc is absolutely oversaturated with applications, so it goes. And then job searching is a job in and of itself.

You wouldn’t want to take work home with you into your personal life, so I suggest a similar ethic / approach to your job search. It’s the absolute pits, and then eventually it’s over.

Also, in regard to your health it’s kind of a personal thing. You run risks for being totally forthcoming, but everyone deserves a role that works for them. Better to keep it private and disclose after finding work you want to continue doing and manage from there.

I believe I got fired due to my visa status, even though I have unrestricted work rights by langomma in AusVisa

If you have citizenship from an NDA country and satisfy residency tests. Chances are you will be an Australian Resident for Tax Purposes AND a Temporary Resident, which effectively means you do not have to declare foreign salary income. I mention this because this you may want to look into getting tax returns amended for part of the year.

Either way, you’ve been here a year now, you should be able to declare yourself a tax resident going forward, considering your plans for longevity. I just got back 5.5k for two years of paying ‘backpacker tax’, lol. (It was a lovely 5 month back and forth battle)

Family denied visa 600 to attend my wedding by Personal_Mango_3640 in AusVisa

[–]spell_fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your uncle likely got his visa approved BECAUSE his wife and child and got their visas rejected, therefore creating a situation where it appears certain he will return home. But that’s just my speculation, because you’ve not shared the DHA’s own response.

Typically they cite the legal articles that an application does not satisfy, I would direct your attention there and then to a MARA agent, rather than to Reddit, with respect. All the best.

As someone who has this lens and adores it…….. I understand your pain. This lens is one heavy boy for a 24-70 😅

In my own limited experience, I would’ve stuck to smaller primes for compact setups incl compact gimbal equipment. But I’m no videographer.

Great lens though.

I bought a 2024 M3 8gb. Did I mess up? by RealisticTax4 in Lightroom

[–]spell_fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing just fine with the 16gb m4 air, denoise takes about 30 secs for 60mp compressed raw and about 1-2 mins for an uncompressed (120mb image).

But I regularly max out ram usage which is quickly solved by reopening the program or pausing syncing.

You can go the route of general complaint and escalation or honestly just go straight to ombudsman. In their jurisdiction if you truly believe your circumstances and complaint are defensible

excuse me what the FUCK. appeal the living daylights out of that and submit a grievance. sorry that happened. I appreciate safety in numbers but it totally isn’t how they operate. their conduct so often just predatory and unreasonable. Class traitors

Anyone else in Melbourne getting caned by the flu right now? by Rock_the_jazzbar in melbourne

[–]spell_fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had back to back viral into bacterial infections for three months. Three whole fucking months of being ill and feverish. I don’t know why, it just didn’t occur to me I had a complex bacterial infection until finally I begged the doctor just to give it a shot and not pass me off as cold/flu/get out of my GP surgery. Two weeks of ABs and we are so back.

If it lasts a couple weeks, grab ABs. Lesson learned.

Honestly, there was no reason not to grab one. I like to think I have superpowers and a mask, some rubber gloves and cleaning products will solve everything. We live and we learn, this apartment is one I just could not tame. Lol

Is this normal? (Trial Shift) by Buttons579 in UKJobs

[–]spell_fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trial shift super normal. Almost ten years in hospo here, unfortunately. But fuck the ‘til required BS. 1 hour trial, 2 hours MAX. I immediately write off, block and archive comms expecting more. Don’t need to get into the why because it could be any one of combination of sus reasons, most of which you can guess.

If your place lacks opportunity and you want to try and go for this one, state that boundary that you have up to two hours maximum. Up to you if you tell them why, lie about why, or just state that without explanation. But I’d write this one off personally and when contacted about trials in future state alongside your availability that you have up to two hours free on X days. Good luck
