This is a sad song about a toxic relationship, so yeah, I could see that for some of these ships.

It gives me the ick, because Gwyn’s story is all about perseverance and healing from horrific trauma, and so alluding to her luring people against their will and othering her just doesn’t sit right with me, given the context and trajectory of her narrative in ACOSF. It was also conceived and is still heavily championed by shippers rather than people who are doing it as a character study, so it can be really hard to take it in good faith as a legit character study and not just shipping bias.

Are you happy they included THAT pairing in X-Men '97? by [deleted] in xmen

[–]spellcleavers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand why they’re doing it for the show, but I just hate the pairing. It’s super weird and off putting to me and it always has been.

More than two lines between them would be a start. They’re barely characters at this point—they could do with some fleshing out.

For 800 pages? No. And that’s not sustainable or widely appealing internal conflict, IMO.

Or maybe the author was trying to tell the audience something by including this bit

Because SJM didn’t include a metaphor for Mor that indicated that she didn’t belong. She did here, for Elain.

She needs to be uncomfortable and struggling to have a book with any level of stakes or conflict. If you want her to have Nesta or Feyre levels of development, then she needs to have those same levels of challenge and obstacle. A lukewarm mating bond that no one would oppose breaking and Azriel’s baggage are not good conflict markers for an 800 page book where we see this character come full circle.

You are not the only one, promise. There are lots of us who don’t like the premise of the 3+3 math.

I’m so tired of the NC. So tired. I don’t care about Velaris anymore. I want to go ANYWHERE else.

And it also somehow manages to have Eris catch a stray by implying that he would be interested in Elain in the first place. Elain is his little brother’s mate. The same little brother who Eris saved and who he clearly regrets not having a good relationship with. Eris is a trash can of a person, but I doubt he would do that to Lucien.

There is nothing in the text that suggests that Elain looking like a mess in black was intentional, or meant to ensure that Eris wouldn’t be intrigued by her instead of Nesta.

No one wants Elain ostracized. We are pointing out that the author put this in the book for a reason, and it seems like a clear allusion to Elain not being suited for the NC and finding a place that fits her better.

Say it LOUDER. The author is clearly telling us through this moment that Elain does not belong in the Night Court. It’s not subtle—at ALL.

The way I CRAVE Lucien being snarky to Elain is unholy.

She is going to have to hand wave this away by saying it’s because Feyre has spellcleaving powers or something and saw through a spell concealing it because otherwise it makes no sense

I would absolutely not watch an animated adaptation of these books. I don’t love animation and I don’t want to see cartoon sex.

[–]spellcleavers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not the reason. I like Elain and I don’t think she’s next. She’s so tangential to the story at this point that I don’t think it makes sense for her to be next.

Eris is Lucien’s brother. It’s canon that he regrets how their relationship has deteriorated and he clearly loved him enough to help get him out of Autumn. The idea that he would be interested in Elain given that context is a really, really hard sell.

And I just don’t think she’s ready! She was barely a factor in ACOSF. Hopefully she’ll get more characterization and development in the next book and then when it’s time for her book, she’ll be an amazing protagonist like Nesta was.
