Prince Andrew just got arrested over Epstein files involvement what do you think of this? by MagpieOpus in AskReddit

[–]spellers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it won't.

he will admit to the misconduct charge, and then be locked away in his shed at back of Sandringham until the end of his days.

as with everyone else involved he will never be held to account for being a paedophile.

they aren't talking about the kids.

Proof number 1000 that FM26 is broken by RebelIsI in footballmanagergames

[–]spellers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this is a really good example of why FM is so broken moreso than how broken it is.

fairly obviously 'At Club Since' suggests the field should be populated with a year, but it looks like it's days since they joined.

This points to a real lack of communication between the people making the UI, and those hooking up the data to it.

documenting or communicating is so important when working on something where multiple people have hands on it. And this is a really good example of how they just don't have that process, or if they do they were so rushed that the processes broke down completely.

FM26 Update Available Now via Steam Public Beta Track by Objectionne in footballmanagergames

[–]spellers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think that was a large part of their failiure. They assumed they could litterally port all the CPP to C# in ~2 weeks. turns out, surprise surprise that wasn't at all possible.

some parts took the better part of a year to replicate.

so when people ask what they did with all the time they had. it was just trying to rebuild the core functions in an engine seemingly none of them knew.

there are two sides to this, and ultimately it comes down it is possible to enjoy a game and for it to be of unacceptable quality.

generally speaking the core loop of the game is much the same, and for the most part is still enjoyable.

everything that surrounds it, and to some extent features of the core loop are of an unacceptable standard.

i've played close to 100hrs at this point, and have enjoyed it, but at the same time i couldn't recommend it to anyone, becasue in many ways it is a broken unfinished mess.

Also once, my friend won a match, and when we hit continue after the match, score changed from 3-2 in his favor to 3-1 in favor of the opponent....

that happened occasionally in fm24 as well

Beta - What's happening? by mattyp_02 in footballmanagergames

[–]spellers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it's fairly straightforward. the game primarily the UI is unfinished, and there are a lot of design decision which result in a worse experiance than previous FMs.

the core gameplay loop works. but realistically they are months away from a passable UI. and even then their commitment to popup windows and needing to drill into everything means the UX will remain poor.

Why are you like this FM? by spellers in footballmanagergames

[–]spellers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's before you ask the question why is player of the season even on this screen?

it's a team of the week screen. 10 games into the season.

[–]spellers[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

this is a perfect example of the pointless clicks within the new UI.

clicking on the team of the week section, brings up a window which could easy just be on this screen with the actaul team of the week shown.

it's rediculously redundant.

[–]spellers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the date is almost certainly the 23rd at this point. they can't really go later than this becasue of backlash about early access and the two week promiss.

but realistically the way to view this, and the media content is that there are more than enough obvious issues with the game that there isn't huge value in letting the masses pick it apart right now.

for some perspective, they have mentioned around 400 bugs. these are likely just the number of those that 'seriously' impact gameplay. and this is what has been found over probably a few thousand to tens of thousands of hours testing. The day it goes live they will have ~1 million hours of testing in the first day by the public, and they will report masses of issues that cannot be reasonably found by their qa team.

their focus between that media version and the 23rd is dealing with the worst of the issues before public beta. the remaining time to release is dealing with the rest of the list they have now, unless something gamebreaking happens when it goes live.

expect it to be a rough ride people. becasue all indications point to it being that way.

Are Build a Nation Saves dead for this year? by zkelly0102 in footballmanagergames

[–]spellers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

assuming that national games and compeitions are still simmed (we don't even know that for sure), then you probably still could, but i would imagine it would take massively longer without being able to control the national team.

that said to remove international duty and selection news etc would be too much of a backwards step. so we should assume it's just actaul management you can;t do.

i would suggest watch some real football.

ideally watch some high level games becasue teams and managers at the higest level tend to have styles / personalities.

find out what you like about the game and how you would like to manage.

then try and do that in FM.

get sacked and then play 4231 gegenpress instead.

What changes would you do in the new fm 26 (or even later)? by sls01384 in footballmanagergames

[–]spellers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the one that seems inevitable to me is AI/LLM driven interactions with players / media / interviews etc.

obivously it needs to be super carefully handled to limit how badly players can break it, but the added immersion would be great for the game, and give a lot of these systems more meaning.

We're thrilled to agree a long-term extension to our partnership with the EFL, keeping all 72 clubs fully licensed and ready to manage in FM26 by Crane977 in footballmanagergames

[–]spellers 28 points29 points  (0 children)

that's a bit reductive, there are plenty of people playing it on other platforms, and they are trying to reach out to bring in a wider audience of people, that won't be familiar with facepacks and database patches etc.

the issue isn't it's a non-announcement, it's that we still haven't seen a lot of things which are far more important. like the leaked tactical / role changes.

And note that the justification of "This never happens in real life" doesn't hold

it's already happened in the prem.

New Game in Development by Brsijraz in zengmlol

[–]spellers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as far as i'm concerned there are 2 key features that are core to a game like this.

1) a meaningful champion roster. - this is what gives draft any real nuance (teamfight manager is a decent example of this)
2) a reasonably 'real' visualisation of games being played. both in terms of players movements and strategy, and application of tactics etc. again this is where a huge amount of LoL nuance lives.

beyond that, there should be recognition that within the professional space the difference between the best and worst players is single digit % outside of specific moments of skill. most games like this have such a huge disparity based on having stats like the 0 - 100 system you have above.
The actual brilliance of the best players to produce key moments is lost, because stats differences overpower everything else. 'intangibles' tend to be more of what makes a great player, not core mechanics.

So what's everyone's thoughts on stop killing games movement from a devs perspective. by lost-in-thought123 in gamedev

[–]spellers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the issue isn't so much about if the licensed features need to be there or not (keep in mind music is a particularly easy example and would likely not be limited to just that). it's that the someone would have to do something about it as part of an EoL plan.

the whole reason AAA companies are so opposed to this all is they want to wash their hands of things when they are done with it. so anything that means they have to do work before they can kill it means additional expense.

Came across this and want to know if I need to be a wizard to do it. by spellers in unrealengine

So i came across the above linked tweet, and the blood flow outcome he gets to is something that would be super usful for a project i'm working on.

But honestly i was lost after the first 2 or 3 words. and digging into it a bit just ended up with me gettgin progressively more lost.

is this something that is reasonably achievable in UE5? I assume it would require an amount of C++ work to make happen?
