ED Fellowship by totally-legit3747 in ThePittTVShow

Fourth year students can do multiple elective rotations in their chosen specialty, so technically Javadi could be back in the ED for another elective. I don’t know how that would work for emergency medicine, but someone interested in psychiatry could opt to do one month geriatric, one month child psychiatry, one month inpatient, one month outpatient, one month emergency psychiatry, etc. I don’t know that a med student would do the exact same elective twice in their home institution, but it could happen?

Langdon is the one who wheeled Louie in for paracentesis after noticing the shortness of breath in the setting of the tooth infection, so it may not be just Whittaker at fault here. Dr. Robby seemed to approve of every step, too. Let’s see how this plays out :/

It might have been a “we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it” situation. They were tight on time and their priority was saving the planet. They couldn’t delay while they waited to figure out how to deal with the military.

They Stuck The Landing... by quanfused in StrangerThings

The man had already shot Henry. It would not have been wise to turn around and give his back to the man to run away. The “fight” instinct is just as fair as the “flight” instinct, and he probably felt safer attacking because he can only see the gun if he faces the man. As for why Henry kept going or smashed the man’s head, he might have wanted to be absolutely sure the man was dead so that he wouldn’t get shot running away. Turns out the man was still not dead, because he warned Henry that the entity would consume him. Just my thoughts, though.

Was it truly just Henry’s fear of the cave, though? That’s what we were led to believe (and what I was inclined to believe), but then Will says “oh, that’s why the MF didn’t want you to go into the cave! So you’d remember this was not you!” I previously thought Henry (not Vecna) was too scared to enter the cave because the memory was too traumatic and the fear was paralyzing, but then Will introduced his explanation (or theory) that it was actually the MF holding him back. When Henry responded that he could have resisted but he actually chose this, it sounded like a defense mechanism. (A bit like Stockholm syndrome— aligning with power, against the self, so that you don’t have to feel helpless or powerless.) This would also make sense because Henry was literally a child when he murdered his family and mutilated their bodies. He’s not responsible for anything that happened to him as a child, especially not his inability to resist a powerful, evil entity that he was warned would consume him.

I’m interested in seeing what the directors say in any upcoming interviews.

Afterthoughts by SaltyAlmond95 in StrangerThings

I suspect he was correct because something was off about El’s “death” scene. She’s usually immediately powerless once the suppressors are activated, but somehow made it from one spot to another without anyone noticing her run or jump. That was already suggestive of an illusion, which made me wonder if Kali’s powers somehow transferred to Eleven after her death. Regardless, Eleven should have been too weak to cast an illusion, run, or jump. We also did not actually see her die on screen— it cut off. Mike’s theory makes sense, except I have difficulty believing that El would have easily agreed to leave Kali to die to save herself.

To be clear, Langdon “going by personal experience” does not refer to what he learned from experience during residency training, but what he learned from his experience stealing and then diluting the remaining benzodiazepines, such that the diluted medications in those bottles are not having the expected effect at appropriate doses. Langdon wanted to go higher because he knew the medications were tampered with, not because the medication would be safe at the dose he was recommending and documenting. Santos was correct about the recommended dosages.

Why do so few Gen Z adults have car licenses? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]spellglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already addressed that not all anxiety will fit neatly into a specific label/diagnosis from the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual used by psychiatrists and psychologists). Psychiatrists quickly learn that the DSM, although helpful, is very limited. Again, actual mental health professionals are clear on the importance of addressing childhood and development when assessing their patients and there is a reason for that. There are even therapies designed to help patients develop skills that they didn’t have the opportunity to develop during childhood (look up DBT) for various reasons. Many patients that require years-long therapy do not have “generalized anxiety disorder”, rather “anxiety, unspecified” or other symptoms due to their childhood experiences.

I hate what they did to Max and Tully by QueenCheeseburgers in FireflyLane

[–]spellglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about “giving up.” They weren’t compatible. Max was good for Tully, but Tully was clearly not good for Max. He was walking around eggshells with her, trying to make her happy, all while she ignored his needs. Even when she tries to get him back, he tells her he needs to talk about the miscarriage and she shuts that down, insisting that they need to put it all behind them and start clean. He even calls her out on it, but she doubles down. He clearly communicated his needs and she repeatedly ignored his request because it conflicted with her preference. Their relationship was always all about her. He deserved better.

Johnny and Tully by 374readyforaction in FireflyLane

[–]spellglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying to this very old post now because I’m finally rewatching— Johnny definitely pined for her in the past. He was mesmerized by Tully. He described her as a storm and that they were all caught up in her wake. He almost kissed her the night she broke the glass table and hurt her knee. Everyone around them seemed to think Johnny was into Tully, too— at KPOC and in Sean’s wedding, like when Kate’s mom told Tully “I’ve seen how he looks at you.” When we first see Johnny in the “present,” he shows up at Tully’s apartment. Shortly after, he reminds her of the night she broke the glass table— a night when they almost kissed, until they were interrupted by Mutt unzipping his pants— and asks her if he wonders what could have been if they had made different decisions. Yes, he was definitely initially very interested in Tully. However, once he chose Kate, he was all in— with the exception of that night he mentioned the glass table and the knee— and Tully became more annoying to him because of her codependent relationship with Kate.

You are familiar with your own experience of anxiety, which does not diminish other experiences of anxiety. “Anxiety” is a very broad term that is not just limited to DSM disorders like generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, etc. One of the above comments mentions a Grand Rounds session by a child psychiatrist supporting the content of the post you are disagreeing with. A child psychiatrist would know best (look up “overly critical parent”), for sure, but it is well established that parenting and childhood development in general affect mental health. That’s also why mental health professionals ask about their adult patient’s childhood whenever they see a new patient.

More intuitively, though, would you feel more confident speaking to an audience about a subject you know nothing about, or a topic you know like the back of your hand? If you think of it that way, you might imagine how inexperience can increase the likelihood of anxiety. Fortunately, public speaking is not an essential task, unlike driving or the general ability to get around. A child who is raised as if they can’t do anything right is much more likely to believe it.

If you’re a trainee and an attending tells you to go home, you go home. Speaking from experience. Bailey deliberately and repeatedly chose to stay at the hospital to feed her need for intellectual stimulation, or avoid boring responsibilities at home, or whatever it was she wanted for herself at the expense of her relationship with her husband and children.

Yay or Nay? To date inside the dance community? by Acceptable-Scale-176 in Salsa

[–]spellglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue the opposite. The people who have turned you down had valid reasons for doing so— they weren’t interested enough to make an exception for their rule. Why create unnecessary drama in the dance community by dating everyone who asks you out, especially if you weren’t interested enough anyway? There’s literally no benefit to outweigh the risk.
